Dear Baby Dolphin, You are holding the Newbie Booklet. It was created to give you all the information you might need in becoming a valued AIESEC VISAKHAPATNAM’s member. In this booklet you will find information about who we are, what we do and what are the possibilities for you within the organization. What is AIESEC?

AIESEC is a global, non-political, independent, not-for-profit organization run by students and recent graduates of institutions of higher education. Our members are interested in world issues, leadership and management.

Vision and Values

The vision of AIESEC is: Peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential. Our values are: o Activating leadership

AIESEC’s Leadership Development Model

AIESEC’s Leadership Development model is how we at AIESEC in India ensure the development of leadership skills of each member and participant of our various programs. Our goal is to assist our members in reaching their inner and outer development goals. We aim to develop leadership skills in our members that will have a positive impact on our society both today and in the future.

Outer Journey

No learning is ever complete without pushing your boundaries. The Outer Leadership Journey connects individual responsibilities with clear goals that push you outside you comfort zones to learn and explore. AIESEC in India provides assistance and a supportive network through your journey in developing skills necessary for leadership.

Inner Journey

The Inner Leadership Journey connects personal understanding and reflections with goals to guide their experience of leadership and development of relevant skills in their personal and professional lives.

3. Structure of AIESEC VISAKHAPATNAM

Our Local Committee has five departments - Organizations Sector, Students Sector, Talent & Information Management (HR) and External Relations & Finance. Organizations Sector and Students Sector are the core functional areas, so called “operations”, which bring in all the results. The other two are the Administrative areas that exist to support these two core functions. You can either work for Organizations Sector or Students Sector, but apart from these, you can specialize in one of the Administrative departments if you wish (Talent Management, ER & Finance). After you have been allocated into a department, you have opportunities to grab eventually and build your AIESEC experience the way you want it. Apart from the core fields of AIESEC, there are also Organizing Committees (OCs) in which members take the most active role to organize and conduct an event or a forum. Through the opportunities AIESEC offers, you can differentiate yourself with valuable real-life skills, experience, unforgettable and fascinating moments in life and get a plus point in your CV.

Organizations Sector

This sector exists to provide the AIESEC experience to foreign young people arriving to India for an internship. It is divided in two functional areas: Global Talent (GT) and Global Citizen (GC)

GTo-Global Talent Organizations

GTo raises professional internships in companies around the capital region. o Paid internship to gain professional skills o Duration 3-12 months

GCo-Global Citizen Organizations

GCo creates and runs projects that revolve around a social issue, and the aim is to create a positive impact on the local society. Partnerships are made with schools and NGOs. o Voluntary social project, accommodation covered o Duration 6-8 weeks o E.g. Footprints project

Students Sector

The Students Sector is responsible for sending the students of Visakhapatnam out to the country to have an AIESEC experience. It includes both GC and GT programs.

GCs - Global Citizen Students

GCs creates and runs projects that revolve around a social issue in different parts of the world, and the aim is to create a positive impact on self and the society. These projects could be of any job description, in any part of the world. o Voluntary social project, accommodation covered o Duration 6-8 weeks

GTs-Global Talent Students

GTs raises professionals or graduates to work in companies in abroad. These are completely technical internships in which the EP gets paid. o Paid internship to gain professional skills o Duration 3-12 months

Organizing Committees

An Organizing Committee is formed to conduct and organize an event or a forum. This committee shall be declared before the event starts and gets discharged after the event is done. This committee is headed by an Organizing Committee President (OCP) & supervised by an Executive Body Coordinator (EBC).

Support Roles – Administration

Talent Management (TM)

Talent Management exists to support AIESECers on their personal development journey. The team engages in various support activities of the core teams by providing various trainings, learning and development, coaching and team building activities to enable all the other team members to achieve their potential. Talent Management is a crucial background resource in these fields:

o Recruiting of new members o Organizing forums for recreational and team building

purposes o Empowering, motivating, recognizing and rewarding o Facilitating growth and development of membership

Information Management (IM)

IM is tasked with creating the external image of and increasing the awareness about AIESEC Visakhapatnam. As such, communications plays an important role by supporting all the other teams in their promotion.

o Generating posters and other marketing material o Marketing the LC in social media

Finance

Each project must have spending guidelines in a form of a budget. That way we can ensure sustainable growth, eliminate wasteful spending and improve good investments. Risk management, financing policies and legal management are very important roles of financing.

External Relations (ER)

ER deals with establishing new partnerships and maintaining existing partnership with external organizations to ensure value based brand of AIESEC in the city.

o Opportunity to learn time management o A highly recommended place to get well-versed with

financial management o Different kinds of OCs give different approaches in

learning the corporate world.

5. AIESEC Conferences

There are various national conferences held in India each year: June National Conference is the biggest of all. ACCESS and SUCCESS have special content for brand new members, as those are the first conferences happening after the recruitment period. A National Conference is the most glamorous part of AIESEC, as this is the plenary where the leaders of LCs being gathered and successful performances are rewarded. Few conferences are focused on getting ready for the fall semester activities. All conferences provide training in various areas and support in everyday AIESEC activities, plus they’re great for networking with other people from other cities!
