Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sunday, February 3rd, 2019 St. Joseph Parish

First Reading: Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19

God tells Jeremiah that he was chosen to be a prophet to the nations before he had

even been born. He also promises him strength and protection, providing Jeremi-

ah does as God asks.

Second Reading: 1 Cor 12:31—13:13 Paul discusses the importance of love and

claims that one who possesses any gift, but lacks love, has nothing. He explains

that true love never fails, although knowledge or other talents can fail to en-dure in the same manner. Paul says that three things last: "faith, hope, and love,

the greatest of these being love."

Gospel: Luke 4:21-30

Jesus spoke in the synagogue at Nazareth, at first appealing to all who were present. But he knew that they would be expecting him to do the things he had already done in other towns. He reminded them of oth-er prophets who had preached and gained

acceptance in foreign places instead of their home towns. This angered the peo-

ple, who expelled him from town.

Starting this year, St. Joseph Parish will be offering two accompaniment Youth Group programs for our mid-dle school and high school teens. Both groups meet throughout the year in the Parish Hall beneath the church. All middle school and high school teens are welcome to join at any time and are encouraged to come to any of the events on the calendar! The YG Calendar & Registration Form can be found in the Religious Education office or on our Facebook page. Kickoff Meetings! Come one, come all to our kickoff event for Youth Group! We would like to acknowledge the following religious education students for offering to our Lord giv-ing their time, talent, and treasures in the participation of the Holy Mass this past Sunday. Queremos agradecer y reconocer el esfuerzo de los siguiente partipantes de la educacion religiosa en la Fe, por ofrecer su tiempo, talento y tesoro en la participacion de la Santa Misa este Domingo pasado.

Please remember to write your name and the type of sacrificial offering clearly on the envelope. Your parents cannot give the envelope in your name. You have to attend mass and give the offer-ing yourself. Giving two envelopes does not count for two masses; if you forget your envelope you can put it next Sunday. Remember the purpose of using the envelopes is to remind you and teach you what God has given to you. The objective of the envelopes within Religious Education is to teach you, and to form within you good habits, and to learn how to respond to God’s infinite love and mercy. Thank you for being a part of this effort, and thank you to your parents to be partners in this endeavor. Por favor necesitas escribir tu nombre y lo que vas a ofrecer como ofrenda sacrificial claramente. Tus padres no tienen que entregar el sobre por ti, en tu lugar, tienes que asistir a misa y ofrecer tu mismo tu ofrenda. Dar dos sobres no cuenta para dos misas; Si olvidas tu sobre puedes ponerlo el proximo domingo. El objetivo de nuestra educación religiosa con los sobres es enseñarte, crear en ti el hábito y aprender cómo responder al infinito amor y misericordia de Dios. Gracias por ser parte de este esfuerzo, gracias a tus padres por ser socios en este esfuerzo.
