Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 3. I trust all students had a relaxing holiday and can’t wait to get go-
ing with all the things this term holds in store for them. Dee and I had a wonderful two weeks
visiting the new Reddam Berkshire and catching up with Graeme Crawford, Ian McLeod and
their delightful family. They send their best wishes to all at Reddam Sydney.
There were so many activities during the school holidays that are noteworthy:
The group of students who represented Reddam on the World Challenge trip to Thailand and
Laos where their activities included:
White Water Rafting on the Mae Nam through some of the rapids of the Maetang.
The Community Engagement Phase named “The Journey to Freedom” project began in
2010 as a sanctuary for Asian elephants and is managed and maintained by one of
Thailand’s oldest Karen hill tribes.
Rest and Relaxation in Chiang Mai - Meditation Retreat.
Trekking up to Akha Hill House situated high in the jungle-clad hills where they explored
the wealth of hill tribe villages in the area, as well as learning the basics of jungle survival.
Luang Prabang Rest & Relaxation at this spectacular UNESCO World Heritage site.

Last term Ms Leal entered a large series of Middle School artworks created during the
“Experimental Media” academy run each week into the NSW Reconciliation Challenge
which provided students with the opportunity to have their artistic voices heard as well as show-
casing Reddam’s ongoing commitment to Reconciliation. The students each created an artwork
about reconciliation using the theme “Always was Always Will be.” Each year hundreds of works
are entered across the state.
I am thrilled to announce that Ryan Rubinstein in Year 8 has received 1st place in the Open High
School Category for his artwork and Sophia Masters in Year 8 placed 3rd for her entry.
These students will be presented with awards for their work by the NSW Minister for Education next
month at the Powerhouse Museum as well as having their works displayed in a series of venues
throughout Australia during the year.
The annual Ski Camp enjoyed a record number of sixty five students who accompanied Mr. Kable
to Perisher. Taj Leung in Year 7 competed in the Inter School’s competition and qualified for the
NSW State Championships by placing second for Mogul skiing. With the training he has in place, he
has a reasonable chance of qualifying for the National Competition. Congratulations Taj.
Mrs. O’Carroll last term entered her French students into the Language Perfect World Champion-
ships and is pleased to announce that Daniella Christelis received a Silver Award, placing her in
the top 5% of students worldwide. Daniel Conlon received a credit by being placed in the top 20%
of all students.
Connor Garratt is to be congratulated on making the Sydney Rugby side. He will be playing
the Country side in 2 weeks time. From that game they will select the NSW U14 rugby team. We wish
him well.
Charlie Rule represented NSW in the U13 Women's Football team, finishing in second place in the
National Championships. Well done Charlie!
The 2016 Australian Choral Grand Prix for Any Age & Youth Choirs, Sydney Eisteddfod takes great
pleasure in announcing that Reddam House Middle School Singers are finalists for this year. Sydney
Eisteddfod looks forward to seeing these fabulous choristers take audiences on a musical journey
on 21 August, 2.30pm.

It is with much pride that we announce that Daniel Rotenstein has been awarded his Queen Scout
Award. The Queen Scout is one of the most recognised and prestigious awards in any youth organ-
isation throughout the world. He will be presented with this Queen Scout award on 13th August at
Government House by the Governor of N.S.W., who is also representing Her Majesty, Queen Eliza-
beth II, the Patron of this prestigious award.
Jaiden Fairhead represented the NSW Waratahs Water Polo Team at the East Coast Challenge in
Melbourne during the school holidays. His team missed out on a top four finals berth after the
round robin games, but won their last two elimination games to finish fifth. Another water polo star
in the making: well done Jaiden.
The U15 football team that has been participating in the Bill Turner National Knockout Cup had an-
other great win (3-1) against Caringbah High School this week. This match was the NSW final which
places the team in the last 16 nationally and their next game will be as NSW champions. Well done
the football players - a fantastic achievement.
Have a great week ahead.
