CLASS SAFETY

1. Do not enter the lab if a teacher is not present.2. No running, horseplay, or shouting in the lab.3. You must clean up any sawdust or spill you make.4. Report all accidents immediately, regardless of the size.5. Never use tools or machines on which instruction has not

been given.

DRESS CODE

1. Safety glasses/goggles must be worn when any tool/machine is in use.

2. Long hair (shoulder length or longer) must be tied back.3. Rings, bracelets, watches, and hanging earrings must be

removed; necklaces must be tucked in.4. No loose or baggy clothing is allowed. It might get caught in

the machine.5. Shoes must be closed toe and tied. No sandals.

HAND TOOLS

1. Do not carry tools in your pockets. They should be carried below your waist.

2. You must wear a dust mask and goggles while sanding balsa wood.3. Do no chew gum while working with any kind of tool or machine.4. Keep all food and drink items away from all tools and machines.5. Return tools to their proper place when you are finished with them.

MACHINES1. You must pass a basic safety test before being allowed to use a

machine.2. When using a machine or tool for the first time you must have the

teacher watch and guide you.3. You must ask permission before using any machine or tool.4. Never talk while operating a machine.5. Safety goggles and dust masks must be worn whenever using

machinery. 6. As a seventh grader, you should never enter the “Safety Zone”

without permission from Mrs. Jones.7. You must be sitting in a stationary chair in order to use an x-acto

knife or box cutter.8. If the tool looks funny or breaks while you are using it, put it down

and tell the Mrs. Jones.9. ALWAYS close the blade, even if it is only for a second.

CLEAN UP

1. Keep your goggles on during clean up; a lot of dust will be airborne.2. Put items in their correct places when you are finished with them.3. Put your project in your cubby at the end of class.4. Do not attempt to clean up dust by blowing on it.5. All clean up jobs must be done daily.
