Fasting and childrenWhen the children are capable of fasting, ask them to observe fast. When the children fast for the first

time, encourage them. Prepare such an eective schedule for your fasting children that it includes time

for worship, rest and other activities as well. However, keep them away from playing a lot like a normal

day, else it will be quite dicult for them to keep patient until Iftar.

The children who are not observing fast due to their lower age, ask them to avoid eating in public to

respect Ramadan. Tell your children the excellence of Ramadan and

explain the rulings of fasting in an easy way keeping their age in mind.

The book of Ameer-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat, ‘Faizan-e-Ramadan’ is very useful in

this regard. Tell your children that fasting does not only imply staying

hungry and thirsty, it rather refers to refraining from all such acts that

Allah Almighty dislikes, i.e. abusing, watching films, getting angry, telling

a lie, backbiting and other similar deeds.

Tell your children about the history of fasting that fasting is a very old act of worship. Fasting was made

obligatory upon Sayyiduna Adam م ـلاـ and all the Ummahs after him. Fasting was made obligatory on عــلـيـهـ الـســ

10 Sha’ban, 2 Hijri. Tell your children that the purpose of fasting is to attain piety and abstinence.

Message from Ather Ali AttariMember of Central Advisory Council, Dawat-e-Islami

Widespread evils in society, especially committing sins due to

social media have increased the responsibilities of good

educational institutions. From the platform of Dar-u-Madinah, we

are trying our best to provide the students with such a pure

environment that they can get a blend of both contemporary and

Islamic education. These children are our future and their good

upbringing and education can make our world and hereafter

better. I request all the parents and guardians that they should

give time to their children. Children have an impact of your

personality, habits and manners either consciously or

unconsciously. For the betterment of your world and hereafter

and good upbringing and education of your children, associate

yourself with the environment of Dawat-e-Islami. Ramadan is coming. Along with worshipping, get Islamic

knowledge. Think for yourself and tell your family members about the harms of channels broadcasting

sinful programmes and social media. Keep watching Madani Channel at your home. May Almighty Allah

give us strength to save our children from sins and give them the best education for the betterment of

our world and hereafter.

How to spend Ramadan?1. Ramadan is the month of Almighty Allah. Special blessings come down in this blessed month.

Therefore, we should do the Zikr of Almighty Allah abundantly, recite Durood-o-Salaam and keep

repenting for our sins.

2. Perform Tahajjud prayers at the time of Sehri and tell

your children the excellence of performing Tahajjud

prayers from the book ‘Madani Treasure of

Blessings’ published by Maktaba-tul-Madinah.

3. Help your children memorise the prayers of fasting,

Iftar and the Night of Qadr.

4. While taking Sehri and Iftari, make your children sit

with you and ask them to recite the prayers.

5. Make it a routine to watch Madani Channel at your home. Note the timings of children’s broadcasts

on Madani Channel and make special arrangements for them to watch the programmes. Arrange for

your children to listen to Hamd, Naat and Manqabat on Madani Channel and Social Media Pages of

Dawat-e-Islami.

6. Help your children memorise some brief ahadith from the books published by Maktaba-tul-Madinah.

7. Schedule a time for the recitation of the Holy Quran. Make your children sit with you and recite the

Holy Quran – if possible, one part (Parah) daily.

8. Father should go to Masjid with mature sons whereas mother should perform prayers with daughters

at home.

9. Arrange recitation of the Holy Quran at your home and deliver Dars from Faizan-e-Sunnat.

10. Get your children to give Sadaqah (charity) from their hands. It will increase their passion to spend

money in the path of Almighty Allah.

11. Send food and Iftari to your neighbours’ homes with your children’s hands, so that they learn to fulfil

the rights of neighbours.

12. Give your children the mindset that we have to continue all the good deeds even after Ramadan.

Summer and Children 1. First of all, make up the mind of your children that we

should not consider any season bad. All the seasons

are from Almighty Allah and each of them has its

benefits.

2. In summer, the body may have a deficiency of water.

Make special arrangements for the supply of drinking

water for your children. Little children who cannot ask

for water, give them water from time to time.

3. In summer, the children may fall victim to gastro or diarrhea. Take special care of the drinking water

of your children. Give all the family members and especially the children boiled water to drink. Avoid

market-made food.

4. Bathe your children daily, but when they are sweating over, do not do it nor let them be under the fan

unless the sweat is dry.

5. Make it a habit to bathe your children after drying the sweat with a towel or handkerchief. Soon after

the bath, the fast moving air of fan can be harmful to the children.

6. Don’t dress your children in thick and warm clothes in summer.

7. Make sure that you do not take your children out in the sun. However, if you have to take them out,

make arrangements to prevent from the heat of the sun. Along with a cap, turban, scarf, etc. arrange

for an umbrella in extreme heat.

8. Prepare your children for dierent weather conditions. It is harmful to stay in an air-conditioner all the

time. Make sure that if the children have to stay without the air-conditioner, they are mentally and

physically ready for it.

How to make children habitual of good deeds? The environment and good and bad habits of the people around the child become a part of their

personality. This is a common observation that if the child stays at any relative’s home, he starts doing

some particular tasks that nobody else at home does. If we pay close attention, it becomes obvious that

where the child has learned it from. Similarly, the children who watch dierent cartoons or programmes

on TV or mobile start to copy the characters. In order to make a change in the habits of children, the

parents have to work on the environment. Some suggestions are mentioned below in this regard.

Do it in front of childrenThe children learn from their elders. Sometimes, sitting them in front and giving them long lectures does

not prove as useful as a practical demonstration of something may encourage them to take up a good

habit. For example, if we want our children to wash their hands well before the meal, eat small bites,

chew the food well and recite the prayers before and after the meal, we have to demonstrate all these

acts, only telling them will not serve the purpose. When the children will look at us washing hands and

eating small bites, they will definitely try to take up all these acts just to copy us. Soon, they will learn the

manners of eating as per our wish. The same way is possible for all other acts that we want our children

to take up at home.

Do it in front of children

Give opportunity to

How to makechildren

habitual of good deeds?

Attract their attention to its

benefits

Tell them the harms of not

doing it

they make mistake

Give opportunity to do itWe should avoid restricting and scolding our children for behaving well in every small act. Sometimes, we have such a situation that we do not give them the opportunity or help to do something we are asking them to do. When the child fails to do it even after trying, he tells a lie just due to fear of being scolded. Strengthen the relationship between you and your children and in addition to asking them to do good deeds, give them the opportunity to do it. Make it easy for your child to do that particular deed while the child should feel that he has done it himself. For example, when we bring something to eat or play for the children, we can sometimes ask one of them to distribute it amongst the other siblings. Similarly, when we have to put Sadaqah in the box in Masjid or at home, we can ask our child to do it. By doing so, you will see that your children will learn to live with unity and spend in the way of Almighty Allah.

Attract their attention to its benefitsIt’s human psychology that whenever they do something, they find their benefits in it, so we should frequently tell the benefits of good deeds to our children. For example, in order to make your children accustomed to performing Salah, saying that you have grown up and you should perform the Salah five times a day will not be sucient. Rather, tell them that Almighty Allah has commanded us to perform Salah and if we perform Salah, Almighty Allah will be pleased with us. By means of performing Salah, we will be blessed to remain neat and clean. By the blessings of Salah, we will also be punctual. In this way, the children will be gradually used to performing Salah and their intentions will also be rectified.

Tell them the harms of not doing itWhere telling the benefits of doing something motivates us, attracting attention to the harms of not doing encourages us to do it. For example, if the child does not chew the food well or drinks water in one breath, we should not only encourage them to act upon the Sunnah but also tell them the physical harms of eating without chewing well or drinking water in one breath.

Do not react negatively when they make mistakeIt is said that everything happens on its time. Success is achieved if the eort is made at the right time in the right way. When a child tries to do something, it is not necessary at all that the task is carried out as per your expectation in the first place. Children learn by doing. Positive reactions to their mistakes lead them to betterment. If the mistake of a child causes some loss, the parents sometimes lose their temper and scold or beat them. It shatters their self-confidence. It has a severely bad impact on their personality and the very child is found to be behaving with their younger siblings in the same way. If you keep on giving them advice and scolding them to form their mindset, it will cause a gap between you and your children. To reform, we have to find a suitable time when the children are in the mood of listening. For example, it is not the right way to start a lecture when the children are hungry or when the children are falling asleep and we start giving advice. For advice and reformation, find a time when the children are not hungry, tired, falling asleep or asking something. This way, they will listen to you.

The journey of acquiring knowledge continues from the cradle

to grave. The books of Ahadith are full of excellence of getting

and passing on knowledge. The beloved Prophet لــمـ سـ ـه وـ ل ــ االلهـ عـلـيهـ وـ صـ

said, ‘O people, acquire knowledge and teach it to others.’

(Shoab-ul-Eman, 1610) Reading good books is very useful for the mental growth of human beings. It also

helps to build manners and character. It is not any less than a blessing if we find good books to read.

Whether children or adults, all of us are in search of information and religious content. Generally, children

take interest in stories and the parents need dierent kinds of literature for them. A common man looks

for religious content and wishes to learn ways of a pleasant life. Similarly, parents and people from

dierent fields of life are curious to learn Shari rulings and incidents from the lives of pious men.

By the grace of Almighty Allah, Dawat-e-Islami has fulfilled this need of the devotees of Beloved Prophet

in the shape of Monthly Magazine Faizan-e-Madinah. It is a monthly magazine published by

Dawat-e-Islami. It includes the explanation of selected verses of the Holy Quran, commentary of Ahadith

in the light of authentic books, best articles written by Islamic scholars on current aairs, useful tips for

healthy living, guidance for parents about upbringing of children and interesting stories for children. In

view of the significance of Monthly Magazine Faizan-e-Madinah and its benefits in here and hereafter,
