Welcome!The seventh and eighth grade
teaching team is excited to start this year strong. We understand the
relationship between the parent/guardian and teacher is important in your child’s success
throughout the year. Let us all do our best to keep communication lines
open.
• The 7th grade curriculum focuses mainly on Physical Science withseveral connections to Earth Science, Life Science andTechnology. Physical Science is composed of both chemistryand physics. Students will participate in various labs and projectsthroughout the school year to reinforce their contentknowledge.
• The 8th grade curriculum focuses on Earth Science. The Non-Regents Earth Science curriculum also involves some Life Scienceand New York State Grade 8 Exam review. The Regents studentswill participate in 1200 mandatory laboratory minutes as per theEarth Science Regents Course requirements. Both classes willpartake in several projects throughout the school year.

This years mathematics course is called Accelerated Grade 7 Mathematics. This course consists of a rigorous curriculum and each student must be committed to the guidelines mapped out for this course. The curriculum will follow the seventh grade Common Core Standards.

In the 7th grade we will be reading A Long Walk to Water, LyddiePygmalion, and The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, anAmerican Slave. The themes are emphasized in the 7th grade curriculumare Journeys and Survival, Identity, Working Conditions and Slavery.
In the 8th grade, we will be reading Inside Out and Back Again, To Kill aMockingbird, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Unbroken. The themes wefocus on in 8th grade are Refugees, Taking a Stand, Control, and JapaneseAmerican Relations in WWII.
We will be annotating, questioning, working with evidence, and looking atdifferent perspectives. We will continue mastering reading, writing,listening and speaking skills as well as analyzing and evaluating aspeaker’s message. We will also be working on grammar and vocabulary.
