Vice President’s Welcome Message Annual Session 2019

Hello Fellow Hygienists!

IDHA’s 98th Annual Session is quickly approaching and will be held Friday, May 3rd and Saturday, May 4th at the Hotel at Kirkwood Center in Cedar Rapids! Please note that the IDA meeting will be held at the Marriott in Coralville. In the past while IDA’s meeting is in Coralville, IDHA has traditionally been downtown Iowa City. While IDHA loves being in Iowa City, we have found our meeting to have outgrown the limited convention space they have to offer!

Hotel reservations may be made at Hotel at Kirkwood Center in Cedar Rapids with a discounted rate of $124.00 by telling them you are staying with the IDHA Annual Session block. The discounted rate is guaranteed through April 11, 2019 so make sure to book early! Attendees must reserve their rooms by calling 319.848.3700. The hotel is planning on a sell out!

Friday’s con ed course will be presented by Dr. Stephen Hsu, PhD. The morning course will be focusing on prevention and treatment of viral infections in dental clinics and the afternoon course on xerostomia. On Saturday we are having a con ed palooza! As the dental board requirements have changed for hygienists in the renewal period of 2017-2019 IDHA is offering an infection control course presented by Emily Boge, CDA, RDH, MPA and a jurisprudence course presented by the Iowa Dental Board. Tim Irwin will then present a hands-on sharpening course! Make sure to bring an instrument cassette and sharpening stone with you!

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at this year’s Annual Session in Cedar Rapids! Please mark your calendars, make hotel reservations, and be sure to say “hello” when you see me there!

Warm Regards,Amanda Aunspach RDHIDHA Vice President

Distinguished Service AwardIDHA is proud to present this award to Emily Boge, MPA, RDH, CDA

IDHA is proud to present Emily Boge, MPA, RDH, CDA., with the 2019 Distinguished Service Award.

Emily Boge is the consummate dental hygienist. Emily has advocated for dental hygiene on many levels. Not only is she a master clinician (receiving the ADHA Master Clinician Award in 2015), she is also an educator (believing in higher education by receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees; and currently pursuing a doctoral degree in higher education), an administrator with her current position of Dental Administrative Chair at Hawkeye Community College, and she is a corporate executive owning her own speaking, writing, and consulting firm, Think Big Dental, LLC.

Emily has supported the Iowa Dental Hygienists’ Association since graduation from Hawkeye Community College in 2003, serving as Student Chapter President. Her involvement in the Dubuque component included being the co-president and president and delegate to several Iowa Annual Sessions. On the

constituent level, she served two terms as membership chair, one term each as President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President. On the national level, she served multiple terms as delegate to the American Dental Hygienists’ Association Annual Sessions and she was the IOH Liaison. Politically, she maintains contact with Iowa key legislators to discuss dental hygiene bills and issues. Emily shares her talents by volunteering at Iowa Mission of Mercy annual events and she participated in a dental mission experience abroad in Nicaragua in 2017 with One World Healthcare Sustainable Clinics.

Owning a business allowed her the opportunity to network internationally with dental and dental hygiene professionals. She designed two dental hygiene instruments and she presents continuing education programs nationwide, including speaking at the RDH Evolution, Sirona World, RDH Under One Roof, and her work for Loser Dental in Cologne, Germany.

Emily, with her energetic and charismatic personality, is a wonderful mentor and friend to many students and dental hygienists. She is a shining example of what any hygienist strives to be.

We Cordially InviteEVERY PROFESSIONAL MEMBER TO HAVE A VOTE

at the 2019 General Assembly Luncheon

of the Iowa Dental Hygienists’ Association

Many volatile topics are effecting hygienists nationwide, and now is a crucial time for the ADHA/IDHA membership to unite, stand for our educated professional rights as clinicians, and formulate policy to protect the public health of Iowans. You may remember that in 2018 the IDHA changed our method of voting policy into practice. Last year’s General Assembly allowed each professional member present at the Friday Annual Session Luncheon an opportunity to discuss and vote on the policy that will shape the future of our association.

While we realize the first year did have its hiccups, we are committed to hearing the voice of every member, and therefore have implemented this new method of conducting business where delegates are no longer used, and an open forum now hears the opinions of all. We look forward to you bringing fresh thoughts and ideas, and your voting card from your Annual Session folder that you will receive at the registration desk, to lunch.

Ms. Tonya Enright, President of the Iowa Dental Hygienists’ Association, will lead us in conducting the business presented by the 2018-2019 IDHA Board of Trustees and 2018 Iowa delegates to ADHA Annual Session in Columbus, OH.

I sincerely look forward to seeing each dental hygienist in Cedar Rapids. We are much better when we stick together. Kind regards,

Emily J. Boge, MPA, RDH, CDA Iowa Senior Delegate to 2019 ADHA Annual Session, Louisville, KY Onbehalfofthe2018-2019IDHABoardofTrustees
