• News Release: Three Washington teachers announced as STEM award finalists (02/17/21)
• Bulletin: Pandemic EBT 2.0 (2/12/21)
Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT), or Pandemic EBT, is a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) program developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program provides food benefits to eligible families in order to replace meals that students would have received, if not for disruptions to in-person instruction or school facility closure.
• Bulletin: Allocation and Requirements of Federal ESSER II Emergency Relief Funds (2/10/21)
Through early action, on February 10, 2021, the Legislature passed House Bill 1368. The bill establishes the process and framework for school districts to claim the second round of federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER II) funds for reimbursement of allowable expenditures.

Gov. Inslee Declares February CTE Month
• Governor Inslee issued a proclamation recognizing February as Career and Technical Education month. It recognizes CTE as “the opportunity to gain the academic, technical and employability skills necessary for true career readiness.”
• The proclamation also highlights challenges related to addressing skill gaps and connecting qualified professionals with careers in CTE-related fields.
• February is also considered CTE month nationally.

Celebration! Tacoma Mock Trial
• The SOTA/SAMI Mock Trial Team is headed for the
State competition March 17-21.
• Team advisor Mark Thomason connected students
with community leaders for deeper understanding of
skills used in the court system. Mock trials require
commitment from students to critically read for
understanding and develop interpersonal
communications skills in a team setting.
• 21 students from SOTA and SAMI made up the two
teams in the regional tournament; Team Pepsi placed
third and will go on to State, while team Sprite,
represented by nearly all sophomores and freshmen,
impressed judges with their skills and understanding.

30 legislators joined CTSO State Officers for the virtual Legislative Advocacy
Days with all eight CTSOs. We are very excited for the turnout in a virtual
reception!

• Sumner High School FCCLA Chapter President 2018–19
• Washington FCCLA President 2020–Current
• Starting Spring 2021, Christine will be interning at a local elementary school. She will shadow a teacher and be working with students, learning skills to help her in her own future classroom.

• Pursuing degree in Veterinary Medicine
• Maintained a 3.96 GPA
• Elected as FFA Chapter Secretary as a Sophomore
• Elected as FFA Chapter President as a Junior and holds that office today

• Ranked 1 out of 293 students in the Fife High School senior class with a 4.0 unweighted GPA, taking almost all advanced classes
• On the regional level of FBLA, Kianna was a region champion in Networking Concepts, second in Parliamentary Procedure, second in Publication Design, and fifth in Website Design
• Local Vice President FBLA 2017–18, Activities Coordinator 2018–19, Parliamentarian 2020–21
• Currently serving at the nations Parliamentarian

Celebration! Gerhard Salinger Award
• Alex Moll, a CTE STEM teacher at Lake Stevens Middle School, was recently awarded the Gerhard Salinger Award for Enhancing STEM Education through Technological/Engineering Design-Base Instruction.
• This award is a part of the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association, the parent association for WITEA.
• Mr. Moll has been recognized for this award as a part of his STEM Guitar Project, which has impacted the lives of countless students here in Lake Stevens, and across the nation.

BIAW Scholarships and Grants
The Building Industry Association of Washington has announced scholarships available for students planning to enter a construction-related field, along with grants to support secondary programs supporting construction-related fields of study, including construction career training, continuing education, apprenticeship programs and skills assessment programs.
• The deadline to submit a student scholarship or program funding grantapplication is Friday, May 14, 2021.

2021 Washington Whole Child Award
Washington State ASCD sponsors this award program in support of ASCD International and The Whole Child Initiative. This program seeks to identify a school in Washington that has created a school culture with programs that exemplify two or more of the five tenets of The Whole Child Initiative: Healthy, Safe, Engaged, Supported, and Challenged.
• The deadline for nominations is Friday, April 9, 2021.
