Transition – Grade 6 students to Year 7
Over the last two weeks, local primary schools have
visited the North Campus of Sunshine College. We
welcomed all of the grade 5 and 6 students from
Sunshine Harvester PS, Dinjerra PS, Sunshine North
PS, Albion PS and Albion North PS. They were given
a bit of a taste of what goes on in a secondary
school setting and went home with a positive out-
look of our school. They took part in a variety of
classes during the visit which included Mathematics,
Music, Art, Physical Education, Foods Technology
and Science.
If you know of any child that is in grade 5 and 6
please do not hesitate to communicate the positive
virtues that our school has to offer and highly rec-
ommend our school as the next phase in their
child’s education.
Please let them know about our Scholarship Program
and don’t hesitate to recommend our Sunshine
College Community Information Afternoon/Evening
which will be held on Tuesday the 30th of April at the
Ardeer Campus between 6.30pm and 8pm and on
Tuesday the 7th of May at the North Campus between
6.30pm and 8pm.
The College Principal will speak at 7.15pm.
If any Grade 5 or 6 parents would like a tour of the
school at any other time please ask them to contact
Mr. Pitrakkou or Mr. Neri directly to organise this.

Pi for a Pie Day – Numeracy Celebrations
Students across Sunshine College have been coming up with weird and wonderful ways of improving their nu-
meracy skills. As part of a Numeracy celebration, students were challenged to remember 20 digits or more of
Pi. If they could recall 20 or more correct digits they won for themselves a meat or apple pie. An extraordinary
effort. Congratulations to all participants.
Year 10’s explore Grand Prix STEM Challenges
As part of the Pathways Program students in Year 10, visited the Australian Grand Prix track at Albert Park on Friday the 15rd of March. A highlight of the day was a visit to the very engaging Innovation and Technology Hub. They have the opportunity to take part and experience many vocations in areas that they might want to pursue a pathway. Hospitality, Marketing, Engineering, Automotive Technology, Logistics and Information Technology are just some of the areas that are showcased during this international event. They also have the opportunity to engage in the STEM Design Challenges for Schools where the organisers offer students practical problem-solving design challenges where they can see how their solutions relate to real-life situations.

Sport
We have participated in many interschool sports over the last month which has included Volleyball, In-
door Soccer and Swimming. Students have represented the Campus and have gone on to represent the
College. Well done to all our participating students.
The Sunshine College Athletics Carnival took place on Wednes-
day the 20th of March with students across the College being
divided into House Colours. Students at the Ardeer and North
Campus worked side by side to compete as members of the
same House Colour to gain points towards winning the Athletics
Shield.
Yellow house were the victorious team. Congratulations to all
students on their participation.
Student Leadership
At a recent Assembly we were very excited to appoint new Class Student Representative Captains,
House Captains and Campus Captains. We expect our House Captains to rally the students on Athletics
Day. We expect all of our students to attend and participate to earn points for either Red, Blue, Green
or Yellow House. Congratulations to all of our leaders and we wish them all the best for 2019.

International Women’s Day Fundraising
On Friday the 8th, March, the SRC organised a fundraiser in recognition of International Women's Day. The SRC worked tirelessly to create purple ribbons to hand out to staff and students, bake cupcakes (which were a huge hit and were all gone before the end of recess!) and provide a BBQ lunch. Due to the generosity from all those who had participated and donated money, we as a Campus were able to raise $312. A special thanks to Mr Stavrou for preparing and cooking the BBQ on the day, along with all students who took part in making the day as successful as it was.
Year 10 Deakin University Excursion
On Wednesday 13th March the year 10 students visited Deakin University to experience university life. The students went around participating in workshops in the areas of Law, Engineering, Nursing and Occupational Therapy. Students who attended the Nursing Workshop used stetho-scopes, measured Blood Pressure with a Sphygmomanometer and used several bandaging techniques on each other. Overall the Year 10 students enjoyed themselves and has a great insight of what university life would be like.

Sunshine College - Ardoch Youth Foundation Partnership
Ardoch Youth Foundation is a not for profit community organi-
sation, that works to ensure every child and young person’s po-
tential is realised through full participation in education. Ardoch
Youth Foundation has been working to bring schools, communi-
ties and businesses together to develop programs and generate resources in the form of financial grants,
donated goods and volunteer time. These resources are used by our partner schools to improve student
wellbeing and learning. Ardoch believes that education provides children and young people with the
means for creating better options and choices in life. For further information, visit www.ardoch.asn.au.
We have had a successful partnership with Sunshine College for over 8 years. Programs facilitated by Ar-doch at the school include the: Volunteer Program; Second Bite weekly food delivery; Sponsored excur-sions; Speakers for the Mock Interviews; Literacy Buddies (Pen Pal) Program; and Australian Children’s Mu-sic Foundation Music Program.
Books and Uniform
A reminder to all parents and students, that school uniform should be worn every day. The uniform can only be purchased from the Senior Campus (Graham St. Sunshine) on Mondays between 3pm and 4pm and Thursdays between 2pm and 4pm or at ‘Double C’ Jeanery in Laverton. Our students look fantastic in full uniform and are taking great pride in their appearance. The school council of Sunshine College has en-dorsed a College Uniform Policy which stipulates the standard of dress and appearance our students must display at all times. This has been sent home to you. All students should have all of their text books at this stage. If any parent is experiencing difficulty obtaining these necessary items please contact Ms. Hui.
Diaries
Remember to use your very useful diary and bring it to every class. Parent/Guardians should be checking diaries at least weekly.
Peer Support
Peer Support classes will be starting soon. Our trained Year 10 Peer Support Leaders work with the Year 7 students and help them settle into Secondary School. Peer Support classes occur during Pathways. The Peer Support Leaders will also be assisting the delivery of Drug Education to Year 7 & 8 students through-out the year

Asthma Management Plan/Anaphylaxis
Sunshine College is an Asthma Friendly School. All students with Asthma must hand in a copy of their up to date Asthma Management Plan to the office ASAP. If your child is anaphylactic and requires special care, we require a Man-agement Plan and an Epi-Pen to be kept at the front of the school. Please inform the school if your child has any other medical conditions.
Year 7 Immunizations—Friday the 22nd of March The Brimbank Council Health Clinic will visit the North Campus on Friday the 22nd of March to immunize the year 7 students. If your child is absent on this day please contact the Brimbank Council to arrange the necessary immunisations. You need to bring back your completed Parent Permission Forms.
Lateness and Absences
Parents and guardians are reminded that students should be at school before the commencement of peri-od 1. If a student is late to school a note explaining the lateness is required. If a child turns up late without a note and acceptable explanation a detention will be issued. Parents will be notified if the lateness per-sists. If a child is absent from school a note or a phone message is required explaining the absence.
Sunshine College has an Attendance Policy which requires all students to not be absent from school for more than 16 days per year.
Breakfast Club
A great start to a day requires a good breakfast. We encourage all students to start the day with a healthy
breakfast. The Breakfast Club is held in the Common Room every Friday and is run by our Well-Being Lead-
er, Ms. Hui.
Helping Your Child Improve
As parents you have an enormous role to play ensuring your child experiences success at school. Please
check their diaries on a regular basis and use this as a communication tool between yourself and the teach-
er. Insist that they do some form of homework each night even if they have
told you that they have no set homework for the night. Ask your child to read
on a regular basis. Keeping up with the world current affairs and issues gives
students an insight into the world they live in and interact and gives them that
worldly knowledge. Checking your child’s work on a regular basis gives you a
clear indication of where your child is currently at in regards to their academic
performance. Valuing learning and education as a pathway to life must be en-
couraged at all times.
