WEG – The Complete PackageWEG – The Complete Package

Redefining drive and motor packages WEG manufactures both the drive and motor for a truly matched drive and motor package.

Inverter-rated insulation WEG is the only motor manufacturer to produce its own spike resistant wire. All WEG motors meet NEMA MGI Part 31, which requires motor insulation to withstand dV/dt levels of 3.1 times motor rated RMS voltage. This is the motor’s “maximum repetitive peak voltage withstand.”

No forced cooling required With WEG’s new patented Optimal Flux technology, each CFW09 VECTRUE inverter has the electromagnetic circuit model of the appropriate WEG motor built in. By carefully optimizing the V/F ratios while the inverter is operating, the current, and therefore the motor heating, can be precisely controlled.

Optimal braking WEG’s patented Optimal Braking is capable of reducing braking time by up to 30%, especially in smaller motors, without the use of external dynamic braking resistors.

Service and support WEG operates through, and provides ongoing training to its many local distributors located throughout North America. Factory-trained specialists are available to assist each WEG distributor

Oriented start-up The CFW09VFD incorporates a feature called “Oriented Start-up.” This feature was created by WEG to facilitate and expedite the start-up procedure. At the first power up, or after a reset to factory default parameters, and automatic programming routine guides the operator through a sequence of steps designed to accurately complete the minimum number of parameters necessary for the perfect adaptation between the drive and motor package. All motor information required is on the motor nameplate.

Quality WEG is an ISO9001 certified company. Strict quality assurance procedures mandate functional testing of every control card. All drives are load tested for two hours.

WEG Drive and motor package All WEG standard “off-the-shelf” motor products are designed to meet NEMA MGI Part 31 for applications with PWM drives.

Solid State Reduced Voltage Soft Starters (SSRV) use solid state switches called Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCRs) to regulate the amount of voltage applied to the motor. The SSRV provides the minimum amount of voltage necessary to develop the required starting torque. That voltage is then increased via a programmable ramp time thereby providing the motor with a smooth starting torque up to 500% of the Soft Starter’s current rating. The programmable ramp can also be used to stop the motor with an extended ramp time.

Starters

Direct-on-line Startersall or nothing

Direct-on-line (DOL) starters, also known as across-the-line (ATL) starters, are the easiest, least expensive, and most common means of starting and protecting an electric motor. A simple configuration consisting of a mechanical contactor and an adjustable thermal overload relay, DOL starters are the best solution when soft starting is not required. DOL starts are characterized by high motor starting torque and an instantaneous current draw of 600% to 800% of the motor’s full load current. The rate of acceleration depends upon the applied voltage, motor design, and load type. Ideal applications may include pumps, saws, amusement rides, and rolling mills.

Features and Benefits

• Motor protection from overload, phase loss, current unbalance

• Non-corrosive, outdoor, wash down rated enclosure, ready-to-go even in the harshest environments

• Conveniently pre-wired with stop/start 3-wire control and a through-the-cover overload reset

• Inexpensive

• Easy to install and setup

• High torque

Features and Benefits

• Motor protection from under and over current, phase loss, current unbalance, phase sequence (under current to protect pumps)

• Reduced shock and wear on motors, belts, sheaves, bearings, and gear boxes in the drive train with a smooth, step-less ramping up or down of the motor

• Low maintenance due to no moving parts to break or wear out

• Increase motor life by reducing/limiting motor peak starting current

• Avoid water hammer in pumping applications

• Avoid costly downtime by monitoring motor parameters

• Integrate into current process automation with RS-232 interface

Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), also commonly referred to as Adjustable Frequency Drives (AFD), Variable Speed Drives (VSD) or simply inverters, are capable of controlling an AC motor’s speed. A VFD converts AC input power to a DC intermediate power using a bridge rectifier. The DC power is then inverted into pulses of varying widths, which is seen by the motor as a sinusoidal AC wave. VFDs allow for a low starting current yet still provides rated torque at rated current at low speeds.

Features and Benefits

• Motor protection from overcurrent, overload, phase to phase and phase to ground short circuit

• Low starting current yet still provides rated torque at rated current at low speeds

• Reduced shock and wear on motors, belts, sheaves, bearings, gear boxes in the drive train with a smooth, stepless ramping up or down of the motor

• Low maintenance due to no moving parts to break or wear out

• Save energy by reducing/limiting motor peak starting current, controlling speed and therefore utilizing the affinity laws of a fan or centrifugal pump

• Avoid costly downtime by monitoring motor parameters

• Integrate into current process automation with RS-232 interface

• Replaces Eddy Current Clutch, Hydrostatic Variator, Enclosed Belt Drive, Traction Wheel Drive, Hydraulic Motors

• Ability to optimize the motor about base speed with output frequencies above 60HZ
