WEEKLY FINANCIAL TIPS

SOCIAL EVENTS – With summer here, most of us get together with family and friends. Taking some time to plan ahead can keep those events stress free, even if they are impromptu. Whether you are hosting the event or not, planning can help stretch your food budget.

1. Consider having a potluck cookout. If you’re hosting the cook out, have everyone bring their favorite dish. This provides your guests a variety of choices, saves you time, and reduces your expenses.

2. Recipes – Searching for that perfect recipe?

a. Check out www.KraftFoods.com for kid friendly easy dinners. This site offers links to Kraft’s promotions and current coupons.

b. Stop searching for kid friendly food, visit www.kidshealth.org/kin/recipes/index.html. This site offers recipes that your children can make or assist you in creating. They are guaranteed to be a hit!

c. Visit www.recipematcher.com or www.supercook.com to find recipes that use ingredients you already have on hand. Not only does this help you stay in budget, it helps use up items that find their way to the back of your pantry shelf.

d. If you want flexibility and lots of options check out www.foodnetwork.com. This site links you to coupons as well as gives you recipes that you see on TV and from some famous chefs.

e. Rushed for time, check out www.cooks.com which centers on simplicity. It offers you information on nutrition facts, cooking times and more.

f. Loved that pasta dish at your favorite restaurant, now you have the opportunity to recreate it at home. www.copykat.com gives you various recipes to create and share with family and friends.

g. Want the recipes from your favorite cooking magazine without the cost, check out www.myrecipes.com. This site features recipes from Cooking Light, Southern Living, Sunset, Coastal Living, All You, Real Simple, and Health.

3. If cooking isn’t your specialty, don’t worry, there are numerous alternatives to save you money and time.

a. Consider visiting your favorite grocery store for salads. Look in the refrigerated section versus the deli. Quite often, the deli packages these same salads, yet per ounce they are cheaper in the refrigerated section.

b. Look for coupons for those items you are looking to bring, whether it’s chips, cookies, or punch. Some sites that offer coupons include: www.smartsource.com, www.redplum.com or

Page 10: Weekly update 30 june 2011

www.coupons.com. Quite often they have additional specials or coupons listed on their website or Facebook page.

c. If you plan on visiting your favorite fast food restaurant to pick up a bucket of chicken or a pizza, print a coupon to save costs at www.retailmenot.com, www.couponcodes4u.com, www.promotionalcodes.com, or www.gotodaily.com.

d. Don’t forget the drinks a fresh batch of iced tea or lemonade goes a long way in satisfying thirst on a warm summer day and cost only pennies per serving!

No matter which site you visit to find that perfect recipe or saving, enjoy the end result with family and friends!
