WIKIPEDIA HAS ANSWERS Charter schools are schools that receive public money (and like other schools, may also receive private donations) but are not subject to some of the rules, regulations, and statutes that apply to other public schools in exchange for some type of accountability for producing certain results, which are set forth in each school's charter. Charter schools are opened and attended by choice.  While charter schools provide an alternative to other public schools, they are part of the public education system and are not allowed to charge tuition. Where enrollment in a charter school is over subscribed, admission is frequently allocated by lottery-based admissions. Some charter schools provide a curriculum that specializes in a certain field —e.g., arts and mathematics.  ALWAYS FREE, ALWAYS INFORMATIVE! ISSUE #5 THE UNOFFICIAL NEWS OF FREMONT OPEN PLAN THE WEEKLY TIE-DYE Charter Vote IMPORTANT MEETING DATES There will be a special meeting on Thursday, December 9 at 6:30 in the cafeteria to discuss the Charter Proposal. It will include a short PAG meeting followed immediately by an open forum. We will have a second PAG meeting on Tuesday, December 14 at 6:30 to vote on the proposal. Our bylaws stipulate that voting of this nature must take place at a PAG meeting. They also state that only those who have attended one out of the three previous PAG meetings are eligible to  vote.
