What is a
Charter
School?WIKIPEDIA HAS ANSWERS
Charter schools are schools
that receive public money (and like other schools, may
also receive private
donations) but are not
subject to some of the rules,
regulations, and statutes
that apply to other public
schools in exchange for
some type of accountability
for producing certain
results, which are set forth
in each school's charter.
Charter schools are opened
and attended by choice.
While charter schools
provide an alternative to
other public schools, they
are part of the public
education system and are
not allowed to charge
tuition. Where enrollment in
a charter school is over
subscribed, admission is
frequently allocated by
lottery-based admissions.
Some charter schools
provide a curriculum that
specializes in a certain field
—e.g., arts and mathematics.

THE UNOFFICIAL NEWS OF FREMONT OPEN PLANTHE WEEKLY TIE-DYE
Charter VoteIMPORTANT MEETING DATES
There will be a special
meeting on Thursday,
December 9 at 6:30 in the
cafeteria to discuss the
Charter Proposal. It will
include a short PAG
meeting followed
immediately by an open
forum. We will have a
second PAG meeting on
Tuesday, December 14 at
6:30 to vote on the
proposal. Our bylaws
stipulate that voting of this
nature must take place at a
PAG meeting. They also
state that only those who
have attended one out of the three previous PAG
meetings are eligible to
vote. This means that if
you have not attended the
October or November PAG
meeting, you must attend
