Bloxham girls have enjoyed a strong weekend of hockey across the board against Downe
House. The girls really utilised their training and began to work hard together as a team;
their confidence is slowly blossoming and they are finding faith relying on their hard
earned skills. This is clearly the start of a promising season!
The 1st XI had a strong start to their Downe House fixture, though took a few minutes to
settle into the game. Bloxham spent the majority of the first half in the oppositions end
with plenty of goal scoring opportunities. Half time saw Bloxham up 2-1 and we went in-
to the second half more keen to structure ourselves and ensure a solid defence. Two
amazing reverse shots into the D were deflected in and the final score was 5-2.
The U15A team had a strong start with confident passing and movement across the
pitch. A short corner put the girls ahead by one with a brilliant strike from MOM Lottie
Lee in the first 5 minutes. A strong come-back after half time saw Downe House pull the
score back to 1-1. Another short corner and another cracking shot with Lily Wood blast-
ing the ball bottom left. Final score 2-1.
Right from the first whistle the U14A team were on the ball and working hard. The team
worked well together, passing the ball to each other whilst driving towards the goal, us-
ing the skills they had learnt in training to face the player and drive into space at fast
pace. The first goal was scored within the first 4 minutes from a move that included Pippa
ran down the right hand side and hitting the ball across the D towards Gemma, who was
ready on the post. This first goal gave the team a rush of adrenaline to work even harder.
The second goal was scored by Matti who deflected a ball into the goal from Evie, with
the third goal being scored in a similar, fantastic finish, again by Evie! Unfortunately, as
the team began to tire Downe House took advantage of this and drove the ball down the
pitch and beat our hard working defenders to score a goal. The fourth goal was scored
by Gemma who hit into the left corner of the goal. In the second half, Gemma scored 2
more goals and Matti scored 1 making the final score 7-1.
Bloxham worked really well as a team and communicated often. Driving down the wings
and then hitting across into the D helped us score the goals. Fantastic work!
Overall, a great start to the season, well done everyone.
