Weekly Overview – Maths – LKS2 w/c 8.6.20

Day 1 Picture maths - today you will answer a range of questions based on information from

the garden centre. You must choose the correct operation to solve the word problem and

show your working out when necessary.

Day 2 Picture maths – today the focus is multiplying by 10 and 100. There are also some

elements of addition to some of the questions, so make sure you read them carefully.

Day 3 Graphs - Pictograms – today the focus is answering questions based on pictograms (linked

to the garden centre).

Make sure that you look at the pictograms carefully and take your time to answer the

questions. Pay attention to all the detail on the page so you answer the questions using the

correct pictogram.

Day 4 Graphs – Pictograms & Tally charts – today the focus is on making your own tally

chart and pictogram using the information provided. You must then write your own

questions for someone else to answer about your pictogram/tally chart.

Day 5 Graphs – Bar charts – today you must answer questions based on the bar charts

provided, which focus on weather in different cities across the world over the past couple

of weeks. Once you have answered those questions, you must then use the information

provided to create your own bar chart. There is an extra challenge to write your own

questions for someone to answer about your bar chart.

Day 1 – Picture maths

Today’s questions use a range of maths skills. You must work out what operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division) to use to solve each problem. Remember to show your working out if the question asks you to, especially if it asks you to prove your answer.

If a questions is too tricky, move on. You can choose which ones to tackle.

Hyacinth - £4.75 per bunch

Allium - £3.99 per bunch Peonies – £4.99 per bunch

Crocus - £3.95 per bunch

1) Order the flowers from cheapest to most expensive.





2) What’s the difference in price between the most

expensive flowers and the least expensive flowers?





3) You have £10. Find all the different possibilities of

flowers you can buy with your money. You must show

your working out.





4) Because there is a shortage of flowers, all the flowers

double in price. What is the new price of each of the

flowers? Show any working out that is required.





5) I spent £10.47 on three bunches of the same flowers.

Which flowers did I buy? Prove it.

Day 2 – Picture maths

Today’s questions mainly focus on multiplying by 10 and 100. There may be some questions with two or three steps to solve, so make sure you read them carefully.

Remember the rule for multiplying by 10 and 100:

- When we multiply by 10, all the digits move one place to the left, making the value ten times greater.

- When we multiply by 100, all the digits move two places to the left, making the value a hundred times greater.

Example

If the question was 21 x 10 = this is what you would do.

1) The 2 from the tens would move one place to the left into the hundreds column.

2) The 1 from the ones would move one place to the left into the hundred column.

3) There would be nothing in the ones column, so you would need to put a zero down (place holder) to ensure the number held its value.

bought ten bunches of allium. How much did they come to ?





2) On Tuesday afternoon, ten bunches of hyacinth were

sold. How much money was spent on hyacinth?





3) On Wednesday, ten bunches of daffodils were sold and

centre take for the flowers?





4) During a three day period, 100 bunches of tulips were

sold. How much money did the garden centre take?





5) Last week, the garden centre sold 100 bunches if allium.

How much did the bunches total?





6) During the week the garden centre sold 100 bunches of

daffodils, 100 bunches of peonies, 10 bunches of tulips and

10 bunches of crocus. How much money did they make?

Today we will focus on reading information from pictograms.

Make sure that you look at the pictograms carefully and take your time to answer the questions. Pay attention to all the detail on the page so you answer the questions using the correct pictogram.
