We reflected on our individual goals that we set at the beginning of the year, and if we had achieved these. For those that haven't quite got there yet, we discussed what we will do next. I was pleased to hear how our children are still driven to try and achieve their goals with some children stating that on reflection they were going to break down their goals further, refocus their efforts on their target or even look at different ways to achieve it. A great attitude towards learning. Attendance Attendance this week is 96.1% Well done Reception you are this week’s attendance winners with 98.7 %!! We were inundated with support from parents, and without this support, our children would not have had this experience. Thank you so much, and we look forward to your continued support during our Christmas events. Mr Percival Mr Percival informed myself prior to the holidays that he will be leaving us to start work at a larger school as a site manager. I would like to thank him for all of the hard work that he has put in over the last 6 months. Mr Percival has been an asset to our school and will be sadly missed. We wish him well as he embarks on his next journey. Mr Percival's last day will be next Friday. Learning Update This week, in Reception Class we have launched our topic based on the favourite story characters inside our favourite Reception Class books. The children have loved this week’s story based on Room on the Broom! The children have been busy making characters, and they have been retelling the story using the puppets in our new story telling area. In Number, the children have been exploring number 4, and finding ways of making 4. Year One have had a lovely Spooky Week. They loved the story, Room on the broom and we worked on looking for simple words that rhyme. We then looked at the sequence of the story and used the words before, next, after to help tell and order the story. We then have been solving spooky maths problems, with adding lots of witches and ghosts. What a spooktacular week we have had in Year Two! The children and teachers loved Spooky Day, and it was wonderful to see the children participating in an array of activities. Their singing and dancing really impressed me! During maths lessons, the children demonstrated their knowledge of Number Bonds for 10 by using the different representations and solving word problems. In our English lessons, the children have identified verbs both in the present and past tense. The children have showcased their art skills by producing the same portrait of the Queen using 4 different media. A fantastic first week back! Year Three began their week as Palaeontologists. They excavated each other's fossils from before half term. In Maths this week, the children have been revising the use of Part, Part Whole models and have learnt how Commutative Law can help them to solve tricky calculations. In English the children have been enjoying reading our new class novel "The Grunts In Trouble" by Philip Ardagh. In their English skills lessons, they have been looking at the features of non- chronological reports. Year Four have had a busy week back in school. In maths, they have started to explore addition and how it can be represented on a bar model. The children have also really enjoyed working with algebra, and showed fantastic understanding how letters can represent numbers. In English, we have been refining our retrieval skills and looking at the importance of precision in our answers. The children have also explored diary entries and the importance of conveying thoughts and feelings. In our digestion topic we have been learning all about the teeth, and the children are looking forward to testing the effect of sugar on tooth enamel. Well done Year Four!
