Headteacher News

We are at the end of the first term already. Where did the time go?

Although it has been a longer term the children have settled in so well and are really enjoying an

almost normal school life. For many children it is almost 2 years since life was 'normal'!

Parent evenings

It has been lovely to ensure parents can come into school again for their meetings and to see classrooms. We look forward to seeing the other half of parents tonight.

PTA

A huge round of applause and thanks go to our amazing PTA for organising the circus last week. It

was a lovely community atmosphere and thank you all for coming along. Special thanks go to Mrs

Garrett who has served for over 10 years and led this, her last event as her children are both now at

secondary school. Without volunteers like her events would just not happen and much needed funds

would not be raised.

Development Day tomorrow - no children in school

Teaching staff are attending a staff development day tomorrow to really consider how we ensure

our curriculum is tailored to the needs of individuals so all learners can be successf ul. We are looking forward to working alongside the specialist teaching service to lead our workshops.

Have a wonderful half term holiday. We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 1 November.

Sarah Holman and the team at Loose

Dangerous Driving - VK58 APO

We have had several reports about a black Volkswagen registration VK58 APO. Yesterday after

school this vehicle decided to drive along the pavement on Anglesey Avenue, between the garden

walls and lamp posts, at high speed. This was incredibly dangerous and the outcome could have

been tragic. Children are walking home from secondary school at this time as well as parents walking home from Loose. We have passed the photos and emails we have received onto the police.

Eco Council Thank You

The eco council would like to thank Mrs Michaelas for attending last week ’s eco meeting to talk to us

about the importance of bees and beekeeping. Mrs Michaelas shared her knowledge of this subject

and her experience of keeping her own bees and answered all of our questions. She showed us some

real honeycomb and explained how the honey is made. We also got to try on beekeeping clothes and were able to sample the honey produced. 🐝 🐝 🐝

Poppies

There will be poppies and other poppy merchandise on sale from the main reception from Monday

1st November onwards until the 11th November, for a donation to The Royal British Legion. The

poppies are just a donation but the recommended price for the metal poppy badges are £3 each.

Healthy Snack

A gentle reminder that from Term 2 we need to ensure that the snacks we are providing the children

with at break time are of a healthy nature. Throughout this term, we have seen increased amounts

of chocolate biscuits and other inappropriate foods being eaten at break times. Fruit is the ideal

Page 7: Weekly Newsletter 21st October 2021

healthy snack but there are lots of possible options of healthy alternatives. We will closely monitor this throughout Term 2 and will contact individual parents if necessary.

Assistant Headteacher News

Hello, Mr Hogwood here, well the first term is now complete (where did those 7 weeks go?), well

done to everyone for making it! This week the children have met Fle the Forgiving F lamingo. They

have learnt what the term forgiveness means and how they can choose to forgive someone (if they

have been brave enough to say they are sorry) and how forgiving them will make you feel happier. The children have discussed some options of how to forgive people.

1. Choose to let go

Page 8: Weekly Newsletter 21st October 2021

2. Tell them how you feel

3. Discuss what happened

4. Say you are sorry

5. Forgive the person

I hope everyone has a restful half term and we come back recharged and ready for term 2.

Inclusion Team

No doubt your children are looking forward to a well-earned break. It has been a long term, and for

children with additional needs, they have probably been working harder than most. I hope that you

enjoyed your first face-to-face parent consultation meeting this week and found the (ever short!)

time with your child's teacher informative. In our large school, I am not able to see or speak to all

parents of children with additional needs as frequently as I would like, but please do make contact

with me if you have concerns or questions. Talking of information, I have been having a good look at

the relatively new West Kent 'Therapies Pod' this week, where resources and videos are available for

school staff and parents in the domains of Speech and Language, Physiotherapy and Occupational

Therapy. There is a lovely video called 'socks and sausages' in the OT section, which has helped me

with ideas on how I can help my own son with his cutlery skills, and there are lots of useful things related to speech sounds, bilingualism and language development. Parents can make referrals too.
