Dear Parents

Can you believe we are back to school again and ready for another great year at

Orange Public School. I hope everyone survived the heat the best they could over the

summer and are ready to jump into an exciting year.

This year we will welcome 105 new kindergarten students and their families into our

school community and we so delighted to have them with us. We will also welcome a

large number of new families across grades 1 to 6 and again we look forward to their

involvement in our school. I would like to applaud the school community for the

outstanding presentation of our children in the uniforms today as they looked

tremendous.

Over the summer break the school has seen some major work completed including

new carpet in multiple classrooms and administration areas, a new roof on the heritage

listed Sale Street building and a sporting surface installation at the primary site. These

upgrades will all add to the feel and functionality of the school.

2019 is going to be an exciting year in a number of ways. Firstly this year the school is

scheduled to be involved with all events that are undertaken including debating,

spelling bees, university testing, author visits, art seminars, jump rope for heart,

tournament of minds, music programs in band guitar and violin just to name a few. Our

school has entered our sporting teams into new sports to add to our previous selection

including boys softball and both boys and girls basketball.

This year the school will be very busy in performance with Mrs Birds return in dance,

Mrs Sawyer coordinating music and Mrs Powell and Mary Fisk. Running choirs.

However this year will also be our school production year coordinated by Mrs Powell.

This is a major event and one to look forward to in term 4.

I would like to welcome Mr Andrew MacDonald, Miss Leasable Konza and Mrs Erin

Fischer to our school in their teaching roles. We also welcome back Mrs Hilton Brown,

Mrs Peschka ,Mrs Bird and Mrs Burn who are all returning from maternity leave.

Our P&C will also have a big year in 2019 with both the open gardens weekend

scheduled as well as the school fete. The P&C meet the first Monday of each month in

the staff room at the primary site and we welcome new families throughout the year to

be involved.

February. The evening is also held in conjunction with our information sessions for grades 1 to 6. Kindergarten are

not forgotten on the night and are welcome to attend to mingle and meet with all staff in attendance. The

information sessions will be held in the school hall at Primary and will take 20 minutes for each stage. Stage 1 will

commence at 5pm followed by stage 2 at 5.30pm and stage 3 at 6pm. Kindergarten will have an information night

on Tuesday 5th February 2019 6-7pm. The P&C BBQ will be selling their delights from 5pm and it is hoped parents

take the opportunity to have a night off cooking and support the school.

Our school sport will commence soon with the School swimming carnival on Tuesday the 19th at the Aquatic

Centre. This is a huge day at OPS with all children involved including all children in grade 2 that can swim 50 metres.

More information will come out next week.

Our school canteen will again be operating 4 days per week at each site and we are always very appreciative having

parents assisting when they can. Please contact the canteen if you are able to help in any way.

Finally I would like to again welcome everyone back to another great year at OPS.

Enjoy the week.

Commonwealth Bank School Banking Program - Ceases in 2019

The P&C wish to advise that the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program will no longer be

run at Orange Public School - commencing from the start of term 2019. The process required by

the Commonwealth Bank that our volunteers follow is unrealistic and unsustainable. We thank all

of our families that have supported the program over the years and a massive thanks to all of the

volunteers that have processed the children's deposits. The P&C are investigating other

organisations that may be able to support our volunteers better. More details will be provided in

the newsletter in due course.

If anyone has any concerns, please contact the P&C President: Kim Broadfoot 0428 710 773
