This Week’s Programme
Movie: “Eagles Over Auschwitz”
In anticipation of Holocaust Day (8 April)
The 25-minute movie, Eagles Over Auschwitz, tells the
compelling story of the historic flyover of the Auschwitz-
Birkenau murder complex by three Israeli F-15 jets. In
the movie you get to meet Yitzchak Cohen, a survivor of
the camp, and Al Weber, an American Jewish aviator,
who passed over Auschwitz on a bombing mission with the 15th Army Air
Force on September 13, 1944. Hear their personal reflections of the time
and watch with the officers of the IDF as the F-15s fly over the camp.
Commemorating the 10th anniversary of the fly-by; story by Ephraim &
Stephanie Kaye, Overseas Pro-
grams, International School of Hol-
ocaust Studies, Yad Vashem.

International Toast
Schwarmstedt Aller-Leine-Tal
In February this year, we welcomed two visiting
Rotarians, P/P Elisabeth Gause and R/ Rev.
Bernd Piorunek, from the Schwarmstedt Aller-
Leine-Tal Club. They enjoyed our tradition of
raising a toast every week to one of the world’s
many Rotary Clubs, and they gladly accepted
the idea of being the addressee of one of our In-
ternational Toasts.
Meanwhile, Bernd Piorunek has told me that our
visitors handed over our club banner to his Pres-
ident Jürgen Jahns, and that their Club banner is
in the post on its way to Jerusalem.
The Schwarmstedt Aller-Leine-Tal Club was
founded in 2005 by RC Walsrode. In geograph-
ical terms, it covers the towns of Schwarmstedt,
Ahlden and Rethem in the State of Lower Saxony
(Northern Germany). The Club has 30 members,
women and men. They meet on Wednesdays at
7:30 pm, and at 1:00 pm on the first Wednesday
of every month. If a month has five Wednesdays,
the fifth such day is dedicated to fireside gather-
ings.
Among their most important projects are a
drinking water project in Romania and a Learn-
ing Center for AIDS orphans in South Africa. At
the regional and local levels, they focus on edu-
cational projects with a view to improving young
people’s prospects in the job market.

Dear Rotarian Friends,
I am so happy to remember my memories although ill in
bed now: I remember how I felt safe when I saw Clo at
the airport and our second honeymoon at the Clo's
guest-beach house and dancing people of Ashdod and
how Simon worried while İsmail was swimming.
I remember David's 5star breakfast services which I
have never had anywhere in the world besides his excel-
lent heart and bright mind, I remember Bella's warm
hosting not only İsmail and me but also Öykü, my
daughter, Levent, my nephew and their friend before
the youth peace conference begins and also Shaul's per-
fect leading his RC as a president, I remember beautiful
garden and dinner of Miri and Menachem's house and
how warm they welcomed us (I planted your cactus
samples hope they grow soon) besides beautiful town
they live I remember how Mark Zober welcomed us
from the first time to the last minute with Marilyn as
much as she could join us, I become jealous for his ener-
gy and knowledge of course I also remember every city
of your amazing country and many other Rotarian
friends, Burçin's and Özlem's hosts accompanying us,
District Governor Moshe Yonay and his wife, good food,
nice weather and many other highlights ...
I will be more than happy to see you in Tur-
key again.
Love

A Three Nation Event
Madras Curry & Turkish Kebab
Some time before we were so rudely interrupted
by the prolonged Passover/Easter break, our
Club was privileged to host an exceptional
event, when some 100 Rotarians from five Clubs
in three different countries – Israel, India and
Turkey – attended a special dinner meeting at
the Jerusalem International YMCA.
The major num-
ber of Rotarians
and their spouses
came from the
Rotary Club of
Anna Nagar
Madras in Chen-
nai, India. They
were led by their
President, Mr. C.
Arasu.
Two distin-
guished Rotarians
from the
Karsiyaka Rotary
Club in Izmir in
Turkey repre-
sented their Club, ahead of the arrival of a few
other members of their Club.
Also attending will be some 35 members and
spouses of the Kfar Saba Rotary Club, which is a
twin club of the Anna Nagar Madras Club, head-
ed by its President, Meir Aharoni.
DG Moshik Yonay graced the event with his
presence and welcomed the visitors to the Did-
trict. Banners were exchanged and each club
did a media presentation that described their
club and the projects to which they were com-
mitted.
P/P David Seligman described the similarities
since independence of Israel and India, despite
their difference in size, and commented on Isra-
el today. In all, a pleasant evening with shared
experiences and excellent fellowship.

Happy Hour
As Steven Wright Said…
If you're not familiar with the work of Steven
Wright, he's the famous erudite scientist and hu-
morist who once said: "I woke up one morning,
and all of my stuff had been stolen and replaced by
exact duplicates."
His mind sees things differently than most of us
do. One of my favourites is: "The problem with the
gene pool is that there is no lifeguard."
Here are some of his gems:
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Borrow money from pessimists -- they don't
expect it back.
Half the people you know are be-
low average.
99% of lawyers give the rest a
bad name.
82.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
A conscience is what hurts when all your other
parts feel so good.
A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad
memory.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise
my hand.
The early bird may get the worm, but the se-
cond mouse gets the cheese.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend, But she left
me before we met.
OK, so what's the speed of dark?
If everything seems to be going
well, you have obviously over-
looked something.
Depression is merely anger without enthusi-
asm.
When everything is coming your way, you're
in the wrong lane.
Ambition is a poor excuse for not having
enough sense to be lazy.
Hard work pays off in the future; laziness pays
off now.
I intend to live forever. So far, so
good.
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't
get sucked into jet engines.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your
brakes, so I made your horn louder."
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evi-
dence that you tried.
A conclusion is the place where you got tired
of thinking.
Experience is something you don't get until
just after you need it.
The hardness of the butter is proportional to
the softness of the bread.
To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism;
to steal from many is research.
The problem with the gene pool is
that there is no lifeguard.
The sooner you fall behind, the
more time you'll have to catch up.
The colder the x-ray table, the more of your
body is required to be on it.
Everyone has a photographic memory; some
just don't have film.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not
for you.
And the all-time favourite:
If your car could travel at the speed of light,
would your headlights work?
