On Thursday, December 21st, the entire 7th grade will be

taking a field trip to the Chamber Theatre in Boston to see five

one-act plays including “The Tell Tale Heart,” and “The

Necklace.” Students will depart from school at the beginning

of the day and return around 1pm. We are looking forward to

this educational event!

FBMS Cell Phone policy: Students are required to lock their cellphone in their

lockers during the school day unless otherwise specifically permitted by a classroom

teacher for a class activity. If a student is found using or possessing a cellphone

during the day, the phone is surrendered to the Main Office and a parent must come

in to pick it up. A student is assigned an after school detention upon a second

infraction. It is critical that students avoid the distraction a cell

phone can pose when in a student’s pocket during class. Please

help your student form healthy and productive habits by

encouraging them to leave their phones in their lockers during

school

Homework Helpers is in the FBMS library. It is offered to all FBMS students - free of charge! It is held from 2:20 PM to 3:20 PM on Monday and Wednesdays (except holiday) and students can take the late bus home after. Thank you to the FBMS PTO for their generosity!

Yearbooks are now on sale. The cost is $25. You may

purchase online at  http://jostensyearbooks.com/?REF=A0349590 If you

have questions regarding the yearbook, see Mrs. Damphousse

in guidance!

As parents are thinking of holiday shopping, we just want to

remind all students and families that all personal electronic

equipment such as the Apple Watch and cell phones must be

removed and secured in lockers for the entire school day.

Just a friendly reminder that students must be in their homeroom by 7:50 AM or they are considered tardy to school. We advise all students and parents that they should be in school between 7:40 - 7:45 AM to allow them time to get to their locker and homeroom by 7:50. Students with more than 5 unexcused tardies in a trimester are subject to detentions for subsequent tardies.

The Library’s book trailer club will meet on the 3rd & 4th Tuesday of the month (unless it is a vacation week) at 2:30 in the library. See Mrs. DeLuca for more information!

Do you like creating things and making crafts? The

library is holding its “Recycled Books Craft Day” after

school next Monday, December 11th. Come have fun

making gifts and crafts out of recycled books and

other library resources. All participation and

resources are free. Event ends at 3:30 and a late bus is

available. If you haven’t joined any of the incredible

events offered in the library, make this your first one!

The Builders Club meets once a month and members participate as available in activities locally to help make our community a better place. All students are welcome to this great club. The Builders Club is the world’s largest service organization for middle school students with over 50,000 members worldwide. For more info contact Kim Bouressa at [email protected]. Making a difference within the school and community is what Builders Club is all about! Collection bins will be outside of the gym entrance. Thank you so much for helping us make a difference.

Attention 7th grade parents: The SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment) screening process

for 7th graders will take place on December 18, 19 and 20. Letters explaining these screenings were sent to all 7th grade parents in October. The screenings will be brief (approximately 5 minutes each) and conducted by Ms. Clancy,

Adjustment Counselor, Mr. Johnson, Guidance Counselor, and School Nurses, Ms. Landry, RN, Ms. Keenan, RN, and Ms. Stiles RN.

The goal of these screenings is to let the students know that nursing and counseling staff are available to reinforce

healthy decision-making behaviors and to assist them in obtaining additional support, if needed, for any substance use or related issues.

We encourage you to talk with your child about substance use/abuse. For helpful resources, you may go to the district Health Services website under SBIRT.

This week (December 3-9, 2017) is National Influenza Vaccination Week, a national awareness week focused on highlighting the importance of flu vaccination. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) announced on Tuesday that flu season has started earlier than usual and recommended that people take steps to prevent the

spread of flu. "Every flu season is different, but usually cases of influenza reach their peak in January, February or even March," said Public Health Commissioner Monica Bharel, MD, MPH. "This year we are seeing a very rapid increase in

influenza-like illness across Massachusetts, along with an increase in confirmed flu cases. This suggests that Massachusetts may be having an earlier start. It is important that we all take steps to prevent flu from spreading,

including getting a flu shot because it is among the best protection we have."

Please be sure to have your children get their flu shots as soon as possible. They are available at your primary

doctor's offices as well as CVS, Walgreens and many other local pharmacies.

The most common symptoms of flu are temperature over 100 degrees, cough, body aches, chills and sore throat.

Other symptoms can include headache, runny nose and fatigue. Some people, especially young children, also have

diarrhea and vomiting. Symptoms last from a few days to up to a week or more.

Flu can be very serious and spreads easily through droplets from coughs and sneezes. People sick with flu should

make sure to drink plenty of clear fluids (water, juice, soup), get plenty of rest, eat healthy foods, and wash their

hands often. Students with flu symptoms should stay home to avoid spreading the flu to other people. Flu symptoms

can usually be relieved with over the counter pain relievers.
