A F T E R T H E A C T I V I T Y: “Paul believed in Jesus. He told everyone that Jesus is alive and wants to be their friend forever. When Paul was in Athens, he told the people they should worship the one true God—the God who made everything—instead of worshipping statues made of stone. The people wanted to know more, so Paul told them how God made the whole world and everything in it. The sky, water, sun, moon, stars, trees, flowers, birds, fish, animals—God made all of it! The people were amazed and wanted Paul to tell them more.

6. JOURNAL AND PRAYER W H AT Y O U N E E D : Paperclip “Memory Verse Card” in your Bible at John 20:31. Provide a journal and a fun-shaped pen for each Small Group.

S M A L L G R O U P L E A D E R ( S G L ) : “It’s Small Group time! Today, we’ll walk like our favorite animals to our Small Group spot. Hmm . . . let’s think for a second. What is your favorite animal, and how does it walk? (Pause.) Are you thinking about your favorite animal? Are you thinking about how it walks? (Pause.) Great! Walk like your favorite animal, and follow me! (Walk like an animal as you lead the children to your Small Group spot.)

“Here we are! Now, let’s be people and sit down so we can talk about today’s Bible story. One, two, three, sit down with me! (Open the Bible and lay it in front of the children.)

“Our Bible story, today, was about a man named Paul. Paul went to a city called Athens so he could teach the people about God and His Son, Jesus. He taught them that God made the whole world and everything in it, including people. He taught them that God loves people so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to be their friend forever. And guess what? A lot of the people believed in Jesus! You can read all about it in the Bible. (Hold up the Bible.)

“Paul made sure to write down some of his story so you and I can believe in Jesus, too. Who can bel ieve in Jesus?”

C H I L D R E N A N D S G L : “I can bel ieve in Jesus!”

S G L : “You sure can! Our Bible verse even says that . . . (Turn the pages of your Bible to the Memory Verse Card.)

“These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, John 20:31. (Close Bible and lay it down.)

“All of the stories in the Bible were written so that you and you and you (point to each child as you say, ‘you’) can believe in Jesus. Let’s stand up and say that verse together with the motions.”

C H I L D R E N A N D S G L : “These are written (open your hands like a book) so that you (point out) may believe (point to head) that Jesus is the Christ, (point up) the Son of God. (Rock baby.) John 20:31.” (Open your hands like a book.) (Repeat the verse with the motions a few times.)

S G L : “I am so proud of you! You sound great! (Give each child a fist bump.)

“Now, let’s sit down so we can write in our prayer journal and talk to God. (Hold journal and fun-shaped pen.)

“God made the whole world and everything in it, including you and me. That’s a lot of amazing things! I know it will be hard to pick just one thing, but I want us to make a list of our favorite things God made. When I say your name, tell me one thing that God made that you just really love.

(Say each child’s name and write down what they say. Remember to print the names so the children can recognize their names and the letters.)

“This is an amazing list! We have food, animals, nature, and all kinds of wonderful things! Would anyone like to pray before I pray?”

(Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so.)

PRAYERS G L : “Dear God, there is no one else like You. Only You could make the whole world and everything in it. Only You could make people. Only You could make all of space and the stars, sun, moon, and planets. You are AMAZING, God! We want to thank You for some of our favorite things. [Child’s name] really likes [item listed]. [Child’s name] really likes [item listed]. (Continue with each child and what they listed). And most of all, thank You for loving us so much that You gave us Jesus. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
