visiting Blayney High School to
get a taste of what’s to come! I’m
sure they will represent our

is scheduled for Thursday 6th
April. This will be followed by
our Easter scripture sessions.
Mr Mason is holding training
sessions in the morning for the
cross country.

school for Term 1. The day will
start with the Combined

We would like to invite parents
to stay on after assembly for
morning tea – cuppa and a hot
cross bun, while we get ready for
the Easter Hat parade. The
parade will be followed by the

on Friday to celebrate the end of

participate, please inform the

More historical facts..
The town and school were
renamed “Millthorpe” from
“Spring Grove” in 1884.
As enrolments grew, it was
decided to build a bigger
school, and in March 1900
the current infants block
was completed. It housed
up to 200 students. (see
early photo of the girls
above.)
Today’s history lesson
focusses on the late 1800s
and early 1900s.
In 1880 the school was
closed because Mr Webb’s
family had contracted
scarlatina. The average
daily attendance in July
1880 was 46.3, despite
outbreaks of measles and
scarlet fever (scarlatina).
Mr Webb retired in 1899,
and was replaced by Mr
John Rockliff. Mr Rockliff
introduced musicals to the
school.
The photos above are from
the early 1900s, and show
the new infants building,
and the picket fence which
replaced the original paling
fence. Note the bush land
in the background!

We are looking for a new BBQ Manager for the Millthorpe markets. This is the simplest role for the markets committee. The primary responsibilities are ordering food and drinks and ensuring it is delivered before the markets at a time convenient to you; picking
up (and returning) cool rooms and setting up the day before; inducting the BBQ volunteers and overseeing raw food supply to the BBQ. It's a fun role and great way to meet more of the school parents. This role can be fairly physically
demanding, and you will need a tow ball on your car. If you would like to know more, please contact Sonya at [email protected]

Hello Everyone! The
Athletics Carnival has been
postponed to Friday, 12
May. All your orders for the
sausage sizzle have been put
aside for this later date.
It is the season for planting
garlic and seeing that the
children of Millthorpe
Public School are serious
garlic bread munchers, a
number of gardening
parents who have a store of
garlic bulbs are going to try
and grow enough to meet
the canteens needs. We will
plant some hardy leafy
greens like spinach and
coriander at the same time,
with snow peas going in
towards the end of winter. If
you have an interest in
paddock to plate food
gardening please feel free to
join us – we will have to
work around the rain for
planting times but it will be
ASAP. I would like to say a
huge thank you to Sean
Moore and Nicole Poll who
have stepped into the
breach on numerous
occasions these last few
weeks. There is an urgent
call for volunteers for Friday
31 March and 6 & 7 April
which is the last week of
Term 1. It would be lovely to
see some new faces
especially those parents
whose children are new to
school – volunteering at the
canteen is an excellent way
of establishing a connection
with the school community.

Ethics Teachers Needed at Millthorpe Public School
Dear Parents, Grandparents and Carers,
Could you be an ethics teacher for Millthorpe Public School?
One of our current ethics teachers will be moving on at the end of Term 1, and due to this plus significantly increased numbers we are seeking four more volunteers so that classes can continue for all students who have selected Ethics.
Ethics teachers receive full training by Primary Ethics, the not-for-profit organisation approved to design cur-riculum and training for the ethics program. Training consists of a two day workshop and short online mod-ules. Lesson materials are provided. Suitable volunteers have an interest in children’s education and develop-ment of critical thinking skills and must be available between 11:25 am and 12:05 pm OR between 12:05 pm and 12:45 pm each Thursday.
In ethics classes, children learn how to think logically, disagree respectfully and support their arguments with evidence, rather than act according to blind habit or peer pressure.
Children discuss topic such as:
-imagining how others feel
-how do we treat living things?
-what is laziness?
-how do we disagree in a respectful way?
-fairness
If you are looking for an opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school, please visit
www.primaryethics.com.au and contact MPS Ethics Coordinator Darrin Yates at [email protected] or 0411 789 062.
