1. To what extent could Ireland be considered a meritocracy? Why, why not?

2. Discuss the role of education in understanding inequality in Ireland. Choose class/gender/race, ethnicity and migrant status to discuss in detail.

3. Discuss the role of the state in producing, maintaining or reducing race/ethnicity or gender inequalities. Place Ireland in a comparative perspective with other European countries/welfare states.
