PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
This week:
•Canteen Treat Day •The Festival Of Instrumental Music •SOS—Wet weather and parking
Canteen Treat Day
The Kinteen—our school canteen—offers a tasty
variety of healthy foods at reasonable prices. Under the Healthy Canteen strategy we are only able to
serve foods that would normally fall in the red
category twice a term. Next week the treat is a
Kinny Hot Dog and ice-cream. Get your orders in for
8 June, by tomorrow, Friday, 4th June.
The Festival of Instrumental Music
On Monday night, along with Assistant Principal, Mary Liddy, I attended the opening night of the Festival of
Instrumental Music at the Sydney Opera House. The
Arts Unit of the Department of Education and Training
conducts a number of programs to promote the creative and performing arts, including the Premier’s
Spelling Bee. It is staffed by very talented teachers
who are very committed to providing the highest
quality educational opportunities to students in NSW
public schools. There were some outstanding performances from a number of instrumental
ensembles including a jazz orchestra, primary school
concert band, wind and percussion ensembles and
many others. The absolute highlight of the night for me was the final performance where the combined
recorder ensemble (hundreds of students), the
combined string ensemble (again hundreds of
students including students from Kincumber Public
School) accompanied by mandolin, balalaika, guitar, accordion and recorder, played a Russian inspired
piece. Absolutely incredible to think that all the
children come from all over NSW, rehearse together
during the day before their performance and sound so
fantastic. Thanks Eva for being so dedicated; thanks mums and dads for supporting them and thanks kids
for putting in the hard yards. It was a privilege to be
there.
SOS (Save our students) Wet weather and parking
Wet weather brings out the worst in parking
behaviour. I know the temptation is to drive to the front door, let the children out and watch them walk
in the school gate. With around three hundred
families, many of whom drive their children to school,
and terrible parking arrangements, this is a recipe for
disaster. Arm your child with an umbrella, a raincoat, a second pair of socks to change into if they get their
feet wet, drop them off in legal areas and protect
everyone! I would also remind you that if you
observe adults breaking the traffic rules outside of
school , please take their details and report it to the police personally. The police will not take reports from
me if I have not actually witnessed the behaviour.
Let’s work together and keep the kids safe.
Hope you had a great week at our great school.

How Aboriginals made string and how they got things out of
trees. Jye
Stage 2 GIRRAKOOL and BULGANDRY EXCURSION
As part of our “Being Australian” unit, 2N visited two
Aboriginal sites on the Central Coast recently. On the day we learnt:
That Aboriginals lit a stick and put it under a tree trunk and
sometimes a possum would stick its head out. Jade
The rain comes from the south, and caves with paintings often face north so that the paintings don’t get rained on.
Jarred
That honey was used from a special plant called a banksia. I tried it. Kaya
How to get a possum out of a tree. Aboriginals would put smoke in a hollow tree and the possum would think there
was a bushfire so they would climb out and get banged with a boomerang. Qwennette
How to make fire. It’s hard to make fire with just sticks.
Isabella
That Aboriginals used two special leaves for washing your hands. Andrew
That Aboriginal girls made baskets out of the grass tree.
Georgia
That Aboriginals shared their caves and they tried not to
use caves with too much sun. Liam
That it’s hard to make a fire using sticks. Jack R
What foods are ok to eat and
how to get possums out of trees. Phoebe
About some very good bush
tucker. Alex
How to make rope and a fire. Peter
Many things and one of them was how to make an oar and
what the Aborigines ate, for example, sour berries. Sarah
Aboriginals didn’t sleep in dark, wet caves because they
were uncomfortable and didn’t have enough shelter. Danielle
How to make fire and how to make rope. They are both
hard to do. Erin
Aboriginal people carved the
ground with rocks. It really
amazes me that the Aboriginals made rope out
of bark. It is really strong and it was rolled on their
hips.

Kaitlin Clague, Bilal Belkadi, Kevin Robertson, Kiran Richardson, Caitlin
Fuchs, Luke Cassidy, Sam Webb and Anais Staff.
Thank you to all the parents who transported us and supported us
when we were there.

Basketball
On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, two weeks ago, I went away to
Sydney North Basketball. We came 3rd all up and we went really well.
We played 8 games altogether and won 7 of
them. I had heaps of fun when I was away!

Netball Report
On Friday, 28th May, the netball girls went to Wyoming Public
School to play the Wyoming netball girls. We all had a fantastic game and enjoyed ourselves. We won 21—12. Our
shooters were Kirra, Mikayla and Dom. They all were strong shooters. Unfortunately, Dom fell over many times. We all
had fun the whole game and that was the whole point of going.
On Wednesday, 2nd June, Kincumber’s lovely netballers went to Brisbania Public
School to play netball. Sorry to say that we
lost 24 to 39, but the main thing is we had
fun and enjoyed it.
Our goal shooters were Mikayla and Dom.
Mikayla bought ice-blocks and Georgia
bought some lollies. Dom slipped over a lot
of times. Rebecca did the splitz! Thank you
to the parents who transported us and supported us on the days.
