Chemistry Wetlands

Excursion

Water is a huge issue for Goulburn, in particular

the lack of water and also the water quality. A

group of Year 12 Chemistry students and their

teachers from Mulwaree, Crookwell, Yass and

Young High Schools participated in a project to

investigate the water quality at a selection of

dams and groundwater aquifer found at the

Mulwaree High school site. The photos show

the students sampling the aquifer, as well as

testing the amounts of contaminants or ions in

the water in the laboratories The day was also

supported by the new school principal Ms

Judith Stuart as well as Goulburn

Mulwaree Council staff who provided expertise

on the purification procedures of Goulburn water

by Ms Lucy Henze and Caitlin Bright (an ex

Mulwaree student).

AFL team suffer loss

On Wednesday 13th June, the Mulwaree High

School U15 boys travelled to Goodhew Park to

participate in the 3rd round of the Swans Shield

AFL knockout against Oak Flats. The league

boys gave them a very challenging hit out.

At quarter time Mulwaree lead 12-8 with

remarkable goals from Ryan Corliss and Josh

Kalozi. Unfortunately Mulwaree wasn’t able to

add to their score in the second half and trailled

21-12 at half time. Inaccurate kicking from

Mulwaree resulted in 5 behinds but strong

defence from Tom Harmer, Jai Woodside and

Alex Wallace lead to oak Flats not scoring any

points in the third. In the forth quarter Ryan

kicked another goal which was promptly

responded to by Oak Flats. With 90 seconds to

go our midfield lead by Dylan Croker and Dylan

Gray pushed forward creatring the opportunity

for Cooper Ferris to take a strong mark close to

the boundary. His outstanding kick was caught

by the wind at the last minute and hit the post.

Oak Flats held on to win the game 27-24. Well

done to the team on representing Mulwaree with

excellence.

Changes to

Lateness to School

Procedure

At Mulwaree, we expect students to

demonstrate responsibility by reporting to

school on time each day.

Sometimes things can go wrong in the

morning – such as a car not starting, younger

family members requiring attention and so on

– and that is OK ! Sleeping in and forgetting to

set the alarm is not a valid reason for being

late.

If students are late to school, we ask that a

note is provided giving reason for the partial

absence. If a note can not be supplied at that

time, it can be provided to the office on the

next school day.

For students who are continually late without

reason, students will receive a warning in roll

call each Monday. If students have queries

about this warning or wish to provide valid

reason for these absences, they should see

Mrs Randall (HT Administration).

Students are then provided the opportunity to

change this behaviour. If students’ do not take

this up, they may be issued with an after

school detention during Period 5 on

Wednesday B (2:15-3:15pm). Parents will be

notified about this via email or letter.

Principal’s Prose

Week 6

culminates in

Pirate Day and

after looking at

the photos from

last year, I’m

looking forward

to another

wonderful day

fundraising for

“Kid’s Cancer”. The SRC and Prefects have

organised some fun events to happen in the

breaks.

Our athletics carnival was a great day, albeit a

bit cool. Thanks to all the staff organisers who

made this day go so smoothly and I’d like to

commend students on their participation and

behaviour.

Our dancers went down to the South Coast

Public Schools Dance Festival at the Illawarra

Performing Arts Centre last Friday. Ms Dawson

has been working with the girls to develop their

performance which was fabulous. During the

week I received an email from a Department of

Education staff member who was there and in

her words, “I just wanted to say that your

school’s item was the real stand out

performance of the night! Everything from the

dancing, the choreography, the music and

costumes was outstanding. The teachers and

students who put it all together should be

congratulated and their efforts I believe reflect

well on your whole school.” A huge

congratulations to the students and teachers

involved here at the school and also to the

parents who supported their children to attend

this event.

Minimum standards testing in reading, writing

and numeracy is now required by all students in

order to be eligible for the HSC. This is a NESA

requirements. Our minimum standards testing in

reading has taken place and I am pleased to say

that all students met the minimum standard

required to be eligible for a HSC. Our writing

and numeracy testing will occur later in the year.

It makes me very proud to hear of the great

things our students do. So many of our students

have assisted our local Primary schools with

their athletics carnivals and I often receive

praise from these schools about how wonderful

the students were on the day in their manner

interacting with staff and students. This also

occurs for many excursions we attend. The

behaviour and interactions of our students are of

an extremely high standard.

“When looking for reasons when things go

wrong, first search within.”

From the Friends of Mulwaree Museum (FOMM)

Some biographical details of local men from the military files held by the Remembrance Museum. Details of Frank Willis (# 1125) have been covered in earlier Museum news, but not his photo. He was in the 1

st Light Horse –

a farmer from Crookwell and only 20 years old when he died of wounds (at Romani).

Seated is William

S. Smith # 13842,

8th Field

Ambulance. A

Goulburn man, 22

years old and a Kenmore Hospital Attendant (male

nurse) before he enlisted in 1915. Having served on the

Western Front, he returned to Australia in September

1919. He went on to serve in World War 2. (Photos from
