wanting to part with but weren’t sure who to give it to. Ungarie Central would be very appreciative

of any Lego donations you may have. We are going to start up a playground area for Lego

building once we have enough resources. Any Lego donations can be brought into Mrs Atkins.

On Friday November 8th, Madison Cassidy,

Abby Wason and Michelene Izzard

travelled to Temora to represent Ungarie

Central School at the Dramatic Minds

Festival. Dramatic Minds is an event where

local school students are given the

challenge to investigate and create an item

depicting a Mental Health issue.

The 9/10 Art class, researched Atypical

Depressive Order, colloquially know as

‘Smiling Depression’. These three students

along with Kadee Gerhard-Scali then

created a photo montage in the style of

Cubism. Each photograph is depicting a

symptom of the illness, such as anger and

mood swings, anxiety, sadness, and a

sense of loss. The montage’s colour photo

represented the ‘mask’ that sufferers of

this condition use.

All three students spoke extremely well in

front of the large audience and the artwork

was well received by the judges, taking out

1st place in the Art section.

It was a great day and students enjoyed

watching wide range of other entries from

10 different schools in our area, including

film drama and dance. The Dramatic Minds

event is extremely successful in promoting

Mental Health issues and removing the

stigma often associated with these

illnesses.

Congratulations to all involved.

DRAMATIC MINDS

Page 8: Week 5, Term 4 November, 2019 The Humbug · firefighters and those communities that have been impacted by fire. Although our ... don’t have a rashie or t shirt to swim in. With

On the afternoon of Thursday 7th November, Year 3/4 travelled into West Wyalong on the school bus with Jason, Mrs

James and Mrs Mason to perform for the residents at the RFBI retirement village.

We began with our recorder pieces, playing all of them in two parts. We then sang a number of songs, including Abebe

(from the CWA International Day) and “We Are” which was the Count Us In song.

Darcy Cattle then performed two songs on guitar with Mrs Mason (Andante in G, and Elemental Syncopation Blues). He

was followed by Shay-Lee Crofts (Spanish Theme and Surf Rock) and Dustin Bryant (Spanish Theme) (Pictured below).

Congratulations to all students on their excellent behaviour throughout the visit, and, of course, their excellent

performances. Many thanks to Jason for driving the bus, too! Mrs Mason

Students from K-4 joined together in the Year 3/4 room as part of the “Music Count Us In” programme’s final

celebration. Students from around Australia have been learning the original song, “We Are” (written by school

students), and all coordinated to sing it at the same time on Thursday 7th November, 12.30pm our time.

We watched John Foreman introduce the official choir at the Gold Coast, and then sang along with 750,000 other

students nation-wide not once, but twice! Everyone enjoyed the opportunity, and we all thought this year’s song was

excellent! Mrs Mason

CENTRAL SCHOOLS SECONDARY CRICKET KNOCKOUT

NORTHERN NSW SCHOOLS DTL SHOOTING CARNIVAL

On Friday 1st November, Abby Wason competed at the Northern NSW Schools DTL Shooting Carnival in Tamworth. Abby competed exceptionally well, winning overall lady shooter and finishing one point behind the overall carnival winner. Abby was one of the members of the winning team, which consisted of individual students from schools without a full team. This team consisted of students from Ungarie Central, Guyra Central and Gilgandra High Schools. A huge highlight for Abby was being the only competitor to shoot a perfect score of 30/30 in the Double Rise, something that many shooters don’t achieve in their lifetime. Well done Abby, outstanding effort. Mrs Payne

On Friday 8th of November, the Secondary cricket team travelled to Barellan to play Coleambally in the first round of the Central Schools Secondary Cricket Knockout. The boys were buzzing with anticipation, and were keen to reverse the result of the same two teams three years ago when Coleambally beat us convincingly. Josh won the toss, and elected to bat first on the large Barellan ground. Tom and Harry got us off to a great start, compiling 81 runs until Tom got a little too creative trying to do a reverse lap-sweep which ended up being caught at slip! Tom was out for 47. Josh came in and immediately lifted the tempo of the innings, running hard between the wickets, something Tom wasn't too keen on! Harry was very unfortunate to be run out at the non-strikers end, when Josh belted a straight drive, only for the bowler to get a toe on it before the ball ricocheted into the stumps with Harry out of his crease. Harry was out for 33. Josh continued on his good form, batting out the overs finishing on 93 not out. Angus, Lewis and Ryan Crofts all assisted to get Ungarie's total to 4/220 after our 30 overs. We thought this score was going to be competitive. Lewis and Patrick opened the bowling for our side, and both had immediate effect. Both boys got 2 wickets off their two overs. Hugh and Ryan C both got one wicket and Braden steamed in to claim two important scalps. Overall, it was a great team performance to bundle out Coly for a paltry 20 runs. This means the team has to travel to Dubbo in Week 9 to play the finals of the knockout. Well done lads! Mr Cattle
