Church Conference The United Methodist Church is organized around a series of “conferences.” The governing body for the whole denomination is the General Conference. That is a global body. Below that are the Jurisdictional Conferences, and we are part of the North Central Jurisdiction of the United States. Then there are the Annual Conferences – ours is the Wisconsin Annual Conference. And, finally, at the local level, there is the Church Conference. The Church Conference is the governing body for the local United Methodist Church, and our Church Conference will be held on Thursday evening, November 2 at 6:30pm at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Book Club to meet at a new time. The next Evelyn’s Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, October 26 at the Village Grille, at 11:30am. The book we are currently reading is The Weight of Mercy: a Novice Pastor on the City Streets by Deb Richardson Moore. Synopsis: Ministry can be messy, complicated, and bewildering. Whether responding to the church alarm mysteriously and repeatedly going off in the middle of the night, firing a kitchen assistant with a habit of buying drugs from parishioners, or interacting with the Chicken-Eatin’ Preacher from West Greenville, pastor Deb Richardson-Moore quickly admits that there is a great deal they do not teach you in seminary.

“Open Sew” for First Quilters and Crafters First Quilters will have an ‘open sew’ for all quilters in Room Z120 in the Ziemer Building on Saturday, October 28. This is the time for you to bring along your unfinished projects or those materials for that “new” project that you were wondering when you would/could set aside enough time to get a good start. We will meet at 9:00am and continue into the afternoon. A potluck lunch will be around 11:30am. (Note: Irons and cutting mats will be available. Remember a power extension cord if you’re bringing a sewing machine.) Please call JoAnn Piepenburg at (920) 432-6147 to let us know if you are planning to attend and with any questions.

Fall Leaf Clean-Up and Tailgate Party On Saturday, October 28, 9:00am, come and join the Garden Angels team for the annual fall clean-up and “Tailgate Party.” Wear your favorite team’s colors and display your team spirit while we clean up and rake the landscape and the fountain garden. A tailgate lunch of burgers, brats, baked beans and bars will be served in the Ziemer building during the Badger game broadcast live via radio!

Operation Christmas Child Reminder Please return filled shoe boxes no later than Sunday, November 5. We also need sponsors for postage ($9) on some boxes. If you have questions or if you would like to learn more about helping to coordinate this ministry next year, please contact Nancy Albers at (920) 983-0384.

Cub Scouts Wreath Sale Cub Scouts will be selling wreaths on Sundays, October 29 and November 5. Payment is due at the time of your order. Scouts will be back at church on Sunday, November 20 with your orders ready for pick-up. If you miss church that day, the Scouts will drop them off at your door that following week if you missed service. You can contact Jack Sponholtz with any orders or questions at (920) 530-5652.

First Book Club will meet on Thursday, November 9 to discuss The Book Of Joy. How do we live a life of joy in the face of adversity? Spend a breathtaking week in deep dialogue and playful laughter with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The group will meet at Barb Mohr’s house at 6:30pm. Everyone is invited to bring an appetizer to pass. Please RSVP to Barb at [email protected].

Hi First Church Friends, Eat your vegetables. We have heard this our entire life! For many people eating vegetables can induce a feeling of being tortured slowly. But really, there are so many health benefits to vegetables. Some of these benefits are as followed:

1. Vegetables are full of nutrients your body loves.2. Vegetables add lots of volume to make you feel like you ate a lot but do not add a lot of calories.3. Vegetables contain water that your body needs and the fiber it requires to help with “the go”.

An adult should have 5 servings of vegetables daily. If you are one of those people who is still shaking their head no to veggies, here is a few suggestions.

If you have tried a vegetable cooked, try it raw. Carrots are very different in flavor and texture when they are cooked. If you have had a vegetable boiled and it doesn’t appeal to you, try it roasted. Cauliflower, brussel sprouts, asparagus, and squash are amazing when roasted in the oven.

You can also use a low fat dip for your veggies!Dill dip, plain Greek yogurt, or ranch dressing can be found in low fat and low calorie varieties that may be all you need to become a vegetable lover.
