From the Principal…. This week we have celebrated Catholic Education Week. This annual event is held to promote the special ethos of Catholic schools and to highlight the great things that take place in Catholic schools every day. The theme for this years celebrations is: Discovering New Horizons. You may have seen the fence banner out the front of the school. Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society. During Catholic Education Week 2018, Catholic education communities across Queensland are invited to celebrate how they are discovering new horizons. There are 304 Catholic schools in Queensland that educate around 147,000 students and employ more than 19,000 teachers and staff, and most will celebrate Catholic Education Week in some way. This week we all gathered as a school community to participate in Christian Meditation. From the first day of Prep, we begin teaching our children how to be still, silent, and to open up their hearts and minds to the spirit of God. Mrs Suzette Windridge and Mrs Christine Maltby led us in prayer on Wednesday morning. Week 3| Term 3 | 2018

Today we hosted NAIDOC Day. The theme for NAIDOC this year is “Because of Her, we can”. Women form the backbone of communities all across Australia. Women are at the forefront of these communities and it is time for us to celebrate and embrace the role that women play in our Church, families and community. Today we acknowledged all mothers, sisters, aunties, grandmothers, and daughters, who continue to be the thread which hold our families together. Thank you everyone who has celebrated Catholic Education Week with us :) Colette Williams Principal

Religious Life of the School On Saturday the 4th August, we will be hosting a Confirmation Mass. We have thoroughly enjoyed taking six young children on their journey to become confirmed in the Catholic Church. We invite all members of our school community to join us for this very special Mass.

Confirmation is the sacrament by which Catholics receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Through Confirmation, the Holy Spirit gives them the increased ability to practice their Catholic faith in every aspect of their lives and to witness Christ in every situation. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Mrs Gloria Fisher and Mrs Mikki Menzies for supporting our school with the Confirmation Program. This is one of the many ways in which our school work very closely with the Parish to build and enrich our faith community. I have thoroughly enjoyed spending Monday evenings with Mrs Fisher, Mrs Menzies and the six young children and their families. I wish them all the very best on their faith journey. Congratulations Matilda and Cody who will be confirmed on Saturday evening.

God Bless

Colette Williams

In Visual Arts, students will be producing sculptures made out of recyclable items, found objects and natural things. Over

the next few weeks please collect items that you might find on the beach, on a walk, in your shed or might put in your

recycling bin and bring them into school.

Examples of useful items include:

bottles

cans

bottle lids

plastic packaging, bags, etc.

cardboard tubes

small boxes

shells/coral

small pebbles/rocks

old rope/nets/fishing gear

small rusty metal things (nuts, bolts, screws, etc.)

Students are looking forward to displaying their sculptures for you to see at the end of the term.
