Self Portraits—Kendra & Melek—Year 7
It was a sad start to the term, having to inform the students and staff of the tragic passing of our Visual Arts teacher, Kelly Rousham. Kelly was a talented artist, a gifted teacher and an amazing person. She will be sadly missed by all.
Last Wednesday on assembly we congratulated Stirling on achieving the
level of Deputy Principal award- this is a great achievement and shows
that he is an outstanding student. Well done Stirling!

Our high flyers for the last week of Term 1 were Graham and Isabella. This is a great achievement when most
students are weary and ready for the holidays. Congratulations to Graham and Isabella who shone to the very
end!
Congratulations to Ms Flitter who consistently rewards her students with VIVO points!
Deputy Principal, Ms Thompson announced the mobile phone blitz to the students. The school’s mobile phone
policy is that all phones are turned off and in students’ bags during class time. Students are allowed access to
their phones in the break times. Some students have breached this rule and want to have their phones in class
time, which has a negative impact on their learning. The Department of Education has recently completed sig-
nificant research on the impact of mobile phones on learning outcomes, with the findings strongly indicating
that students should not have access to them in class time. Primary Schools are now required to ban them
completely and High Schools are required to enforce a mobile phone policy that ensures learning is not affect-
ed. If a parent/caregiver needs to contact their child during the day, they may message their child but under-
stand the student will not respond until their next break. Parents/Caregivers can also ring the school and mes-
sages will be delivered to students. Students who fail to have their phones off and in their bags will have their
phones confiscated. All students are aware of these consequences. All phones may be picked up by students
at the end of the school day.

Cassidy works hard in our community as a volunteer, particularly with Hawkesbury Helping Hands. Her efforts have recently been acknowledged in a book titled ‘Kids Who Did’. Congratulations Cassidy. We are very proud of your efforts and commitment to our community.
We continue to support our students who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Last week our
Year 7 and 8 Aboriginal Program called Muru Burrapur was at Long Neck Lagoon. It is a great program that
allows our students to connect with their culture.
The week before students attended the Muru Burrapur program at Yellumundee Regional Park.
We are very busy at the moment preparing for our upcoming 50th anniversary celebrations. We originally
hoped to have rides, but there was a requirement that more than 400 tickets for the rides had to be pre-
purchased. As only 3 students had purchased the tickets we had to decide to either pay a huge amount of
money to the company or cancel the rides. The decision was to cancel the rides however there will be jumping
castles and lots of great activities that our students will be involved in. In preparation for this great event, our
library have created a great display of Windsor High School memorabilia.
We wish Year 7 and Year 9 good luck as they prepare for next week’s NAPLAN examinations. They are hav-ing revision this week of the key concepts. Regards Jennifer Hawken
Principal

SRC Report
On Friday 10th of May 2019, Windsor High School SRC will be fundraising for the ‘Adopt a Farmer Initia-tive’, a very worthy cause which aims to help farming communities who are doing it tough as a result of the crippling drought in NSW and Victoria and both drought and flooding rains in Queensland. As such, the SRC are encouraging all students to wear a flannelette shirt to school to show their support for this worthwhile cause. For this privilege, students must make a gold coin donation, which will be collect-ed during period 1. Please note that apart from their flannelette shirt, students must be in full school uniform, including shoes and pants. Should you have any further questions please contact SRC Co-ordinator, Mr Zivkovic, in the English facul-ty. On behalf of the Windsor High School SRC we would like to thank you in advance for your generosity.
