OK, let’s move on to talk about weather. Weather (2015/05-08; 2012/05-08; 2010/01-04; 2008/01-04) What’s the weather like in your hometown? What kind of weather do you like best (or, like most)? Do you think the weather can affect people’s moods? Is the weather in your country the same all over the country? In Taiwan, are there ever any problems caused by the weather? And here’s your topic. I’d like you to describe a traffic jam. (One minute preparation time) Describe a time when you had to wait in a traffic jam. You should say: when and where it happened how long you were in the traffic jam where you were going at that time what form of transport you were using what you did while waiting (or what you did about the situation) and explain how you felt when you were stuck in that traffic jam or what happened as a result of that traffic jam.

PART 1Good afternoon. Can you tell me your full name please? Can you tell me where you’re from?OK, can I see your ID please? Thanks, that’s fine, thank you.

Now, in this first part, I’d like to ask you some questions about yourself.

Let’s start with what you do. Do you work, or are you a student?OK, let’s move on to talk about weather.Weather (2015/05-08; 2012/05-08; 2010/01-04; 2008/01-04)

What’s the weather like in your hometown? What kind of weather do you like best (or, like most)? Do you think the weather can affect people’s moods? Is the weather in your country the same all over the country? In Taiwan, are there ever any problems caused by the weather? Do you often pay attention to the weather forecast? (Why?/Why not?) How does the weather (or, the weather forecast) affect the activities people

do? Why do some people dislike some kinds of weather? Do people wear different clothes in different types of weather (or, different

seasons)? Does the weather have an effect on the economy? Are there any festivals in your country that are related to a season (or, related

to the change of the seasons)?

PART 2: Traffic Jams (2015/05-08; 2009/01-04)Now, I’m going to give you a topic and I’d like you to talk about it for 1 to 2

minutes on that topic. Before you talk you have 1 minute to think about what you’re going to say, and you can make some notes if you wish. Do you understand?

Well, here’s paper and a pencil for you to make some notes. And here’s your topic. I’d like you to describe a traffic jam.(One minute preparation time)

Describe a time when you had to wait in a traffic jam.            You should say:                         when and where it happened                         how long you were in the traffic jam                         where you were going at that time                         what form of transport you were using                       what you did while waiting (or what you did about the

situation)             and explain how you felt when you were stuck in that traffic jam or what happened as a result of that traffic jam.

All right, remember, you have 1 to 2 minutes for this, so don’t worry if I stop you. I’ll tell you when your time is up. Can you start speaking now please.(Candidate talks for 2 minutes)OK, all right thanks, I’m going to take your task card back.PART 3OK, so we’ve been talking about a time when you were stuck in a

Anglo’s IELTS Workshop: [email protected] jam, and I’d like to discuss with you one or two more general questions related to this.

Let’s consider first of all the traffic conditions in your hometown.

The Traffic Conditions in your Hometown What are the traffic conditions like in your hometown? Do you feel that traffic congestion in your hometown is better, or worse than

it used to be?

Let’s think now about the nature of traffic jams.

The Nature of Traffic Jams What are the causes of traffic jams (or, traffic congestion)? When (at what time of the day) do the most severe traffic jams usually

happen? (Why?)  What locations are most prone to traffic jams?

Let’s focus now on the social impact of traffic jams.

The Social Impact of Traffic Jams   / Congested Traffic What impact do you think traffic jams have on society? (or, on people) What is the mood of people when they are caught in a traffic jam? Does heavy traffic have any effect on the environment?

Let’s move on now to resolving the problem of traffic jams.

Managing/Resolving the Problem of Traffic Jams Do you think only the government has the power to manage the problem of

traffic jams? Do you think it’s only the responsibility of the government to solve this

problem (and not the responsibility of ordinary people)?  Do you think the problem of traffic congestion will be eased (or solved) in the

future or will it become worse?  Do you think having more public transportation is the answer to traffic

congestion?  Do you think the government should build more motorways and highways in

order to ease this problem?  Do you think big and small cars should be taxed the same amount?

(sales tax when buying)

Name , thank you very much. That is the end of your speaking test.
