Larry Peterson earned his B.S. in Mathematics Education from Utah State University and his M. Ed. from Weber
State University. He has taught AP Calculus since 1976. Larry’s experience with Advanced Placement ranges from
Calculus to Computer Science to Statistics. He has been a reader for the AP Calculus exam for since 1993, serving
as a Table Leader for six years. In 2003 and 2004 Larry was also a Question Leader. He is also a regular
presenter at state, regional, national, and international conventions in mathematics and technology and has
published materials for both AP Calculus and AP Statistics.
Larry currently serves on the Instructional Design Team for AP Calculus. In addition to his work as a consultant
for The College Board and The National Math and Science Initiative, Larry served a six-year term as a member of
the Board of Directors of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. His awards include: Milken
Educator, Tandy Scholar, Disney American Teacher Award winner, and Utah Teacher of the Year.
During his teaching career which spans over 40 years, Mike Arim has taught all levels of physics and biology,
although his focus for the past three decades has been AP and Honors Chemistry. He has taught in both public
and private school as well as at the university level (UNC-Charlotte). Mike has served as an AP Table Leader &
Reader as well as a College Board Consultant since the early 90’s. He earned his degrees at the University of
North Carolina in Chapel Hill (B.A., B.S., and MAT) and he is a National Board Certified Teacher. Among his
awards are the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Outstanding H.S. Chemistry Teacher for the Southeast
Region, the Time-Warner Cable Star Teacher Award, the Spratt Excellence in Teaching Award, and the
Outstanding Science Teacher Governor’s Award. In 2015, he was selected by College Board to conduct a week-
long workshop for chemistry teachers in China. Mike conducts workshops – weeklong Summer Institutes, 1-day
and 2-days - throughout the USA.

A former ELA secondary educator, Dr. Halm is currently a Faculty Fellow at Niagara University where she has
taught Writing & Thinking 100, freshman composition, for the last 20 years. On campus, she is the liaison for
NUSTEP’s English Language and Composition classes – mentoring teachers at local high schools who help
students earn college credit concurrently. Dr. Halm has rated Advanced Placement English Language exams for
the last 14 years and, as a certified AP Consultant, has assisted both new and seasoned AP ELA teachers prepare
for the task during one-day workshops and AP Summer Institutes. She is a member of Niagara’s Faculty
Learning Community, focusing on excellence in teaching and learning, and presented her research findings on
student engagement at the International College Conference on Teaching and Learning (CCTL), hosted by
Niagara University in 2014. Her work has been published in five different journals, including the International
Journal of Education and Social Science. Dr. Halm has conducted workshops on the importance of teacher
feedback at the Lilly Spring International Conference in Bethesda MD and on the impact of revision on student
writing and learning at the Gulf Coast Conference on Teaching Writing, held in Destin FL.
With over 40 years’ experience teaching AP English Literature and Composition, and Freshman Composition and
Literature, Joyce Herr lives in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She served as the AP Vertical Team Lead Leader
for Amarillo Independent School District and taught AP English Literature for the Amarillo Independent School
District for 17 years. Prior to moving to Texas, she was an instructor at Syracuse University and Onondaga
Community College. Currently, she is an adjunct instructor via distance learning at Amarillo College teaching
Freshman English and Composition I and II, and serves as a mentor to new and experienced AP English teachers
in several states. She has served as a reader/table leader and sample selector for the AP English Literature and
Composition Exam for the past 17 years. Since 2000, Joyce has served as lead AP English Literature consultant
for the CollegeBoard presenting at weeklong AP Summer Institutes in person and online, and one and two-day
workshops. She has presented several professional development breakout sessions at the AP Annual Conference
as well as pre and post main conference sessions for new and experienced AP English Literature teachers. In
addition to her CollegeBoard affiliations, she presents AP and Pre AP professional development programs
through the National Math and Science Initiative’s College Readiness Program and Laying the Foundations and
AP English Lit Student Study Sessions.

Lou Gallo teaches both AP European and US history at West High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. He has taught
AP European history since 1996 and has served at the AP Reading as a reader, table leader, and question leader
since 2000. He has also worked with the College Board in several different capacities. He is a College Board
European History consultant since 2001 and also works as a consultant for AP US history. He is the author of the
AP European History Course Planning and Pacing Guide available online at AP Central and he serves as a mentor
to other European history consultants as well as AP US history teachers. He has also written test questions for
various outlets including ETS, Cengage Publishing and HistorySage.com. In 2003, Lou received the Milken
National Educator Award as well as West High School Teacher of the Year. He was named Knox County Teacher
of the Year in 2008 and was one of five teachers selected to run the Olympic torch for the 2012 Summer
Olympics.
John Trites has been closely involved with the AP Human geography course since its inception. He was on the
original Test Development Committee for 7 years and he has been involved with every examination Reading. At
the readings, John has acted as a Reader, Table Leader, and as a Question Leader. He enjoys working with both
new and experienced APHG teachers and has conducted numerous weekend and week-long workshops
throughout the both the United States and Canada. John taught high school Geography in the Annapolis Valley of
Nova Scotia for 33 years. In addition to teaching the APHG course to students in a regular classroom setting, he
also taught the course on-line to students in several schools throughout his area. He presently works with pre-
service teachers at Acadia University and frequently visits pre-service teachers in other Atlantic Canadian
universities.

AP Human Geography: John Trites
Jiang Yu, Ph.D., is a professor of physics at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts. Jiang’s involvement
with the AP Physics programs began in 1997 when she first led a College Board authorized AP Physics Summer
Institute for high school teachers at her home university. Since then, she has led many AP Physics workshops and
institutes in the United States and aboard. Jiang has participated in the AP Physics exam grading since 2000 and
has served various leadership roles, including the Chief Reader from 2009 to 2013 and a Chief Reader Associate
from 2013 to 2017, for which she worked with the AP Physics Exam Development Committees, set the grading
rubric standards, and led the Reading operations. Currently, Jiang also serves as a senior reviewer and
curriculum adviser for the College Board AP Physics course audit program.
Pamela K. Lamb has taught AP and Dual Credit U.S. Government (Angelo State University) and Politics and
Macroeconomics (Southwest Texas Junior College) at Del Rio High School in Del Rio, Texas. She holds a B.A. in
history and a M.A. in both history and political science. She has been teaching for thirty-four years, twenty-nine
in AP. Ms. Lamb also teaches history and political science classes at Southwest Texas Junior College and Sul Ross
State University, Rio Grande College. Ms. Lamb has served as a reader, table leader and question leader at the
U.S. Government and Politics AP reading. Ms. Lamb has been a workshop consultant for the Southwest Regional
Office of the College Board since 1994 and received the Special Recognition Award for Excellence in Teaching
from the Southwest Region in 2000. She has been recognized by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers
numerous times, received the Harvard Book Club Award and was a HEB Excellence in Teaching semi-finalist in
2008. Ms. Lamb is the author of 5 Steps to a 5: AP* U.S. Government and Politics. In 2018, Ms. Lamb was a
contributing author to the Foundational Documents and Court Cases Reader to accompany the textbook
American Government: Stories of a Nation.

Steve Cox is an AP World and European History teacher with 34 years of experience in both middle and high
school. Steve has been nationally board-certified for over 18 years, and has been recognized numerous times for
meritorious teaching. He has been involved with AP reading since the inaugural year of AP World History. He
has served as both a reader and table leader.
Steve participated in the inaugural training of AP World History teachers in 2000 and was instrumental in
bringing AP World History to South Carolina. In the first year World History was offered nationally, Steve’s
students comprised 91% of the SC exams. Steve has been a College-Board endorsed AP Consultant since 2007.
He has conducted one-day and week-long seminars across the United States and internationally. Steve enjoys the
opportunity to work with teachers in this professional development capacity.
In addition to his work with the College Board, Steve has contributed professionally to the field through state and
district curriculum and textbook committees, professional development workshops, and technology integration.
Steve has served as the Department Chair at Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, SC since 2005.

Patricia Mote taught biology at the high school level for over thirty years serving as department chair for
many of these years. She has been an instructor and lecturer at the college level for 29 years. She holds
degrees in Microbiology, Genetics, and Science Education from the University of Georgia. While serving
as a consultant for the College Board since 1991, she has conducted one-day workshops and summer
institutes at various schools and universities all over the country.
She has been involved with the AP Reading to score the free response questions from the AP Biology
Exam since 1992, serving as reader, table leader, question leader, and exam leader. She helps develop
Multiple-Choice and Free Response questions for the AP Biology Exams. She currently serves as the chair
of CLEP (the College-Level Examination Program) for the Educational Testing Service and is a member of
College Board’s National Science Advisory Committee.
During her career as a high school teacher she received numerous awards including being named high
school Teacher of the Year many times as well as Teacher of the Year for her school district. She was
named the Biology Teacher of the Year for Georgia and a Tandy Technology Scholar. In 2003, she
received the Siemens Award in Biology for her work with minority students in the AP program at her
school. Her students have also selected her as their STAR Teacher numerous times.
She has developed Test Banks for Human Anatomy and Physiology textbooks and for several AP Biology
textbooks and has had items published in The College Board's Materials for Professional Workshops. She
serves as an editor for articles for The American Biology Teacher. She has edited numerous editions of
Human Anatomy and Physiology textbooks. Other publications include articles for several microbiology
journals from research conducted at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta and three instructors’
guides for AP Biology. For 17 years during the summer months she taught a Molecular Biology Program at
the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
Patricia resides in Atlanta, Georgia. She is currently a Lecturer and Lab Instructor for Human Anatomy
and Physiology, Majors Biology, and Non-majors Biology courses at Georgia State University-Perimeter
College.

Suzanne Bailey has been teaching AP Government since 1989. She currently teaches AP U.S. and Comparative
Government and Politics as well as AP Micro and Macroeconomics at Virgil Grissom High School in Huntsville,
Alabama. Her open enrollment policy, coupled with her teaching strategies, has enabled many students to have the
opportunity to be successful in a rigorous college-level class. In addition, Ms. Bailey was a member of the College
Board Instructional Design Team for AP Comparative Government and Politics after serving on the Test Development
Committee from 2006 to 2014. As the College Board Advisor, she edited two AP Comparative GoPo Workshop
Curriculum Modules and made presentations at the National AP, NCSS, and APSA Teaching and Learning
Conferences. As a College Board Consultant, she has led multiple workshops and APSIs for both U.S. and
Comparative Government and Politics. Ms. Bailey has participated in the AP Government Reading since 2000 as a
Reader and Table Leader and has served as a Question Leader since 2007. A Huntsville City Schools Secondary
Teacher of the Year, she earned her National Board Certification in Secondary Social Studies in 2004 and renewed it
in 2014. She is the author of McGraw Hill’s 5 Steps to a 5 AP Comparative Government and Politics, 2nd edition.

Brian Sztabnik teaches AP English Literature and Composition at Miller Place High School in New York
where he is also the boys' varsity basketball coach. He has served as the College Board Advisor for AP
Literature and Composition for the past six years, he is a member of the AP Literature Test Development
Committee, and is a part of the six-member College Board English Advisory Committee. He has been an
AP Reader for the past six years and is the creator and moderator of the AP Literature Facebook group.
He has presented at the AP Annual Conference, NCTE, and the New York State English Council
Conference. In 2018, he was a finalist for the New York State Teacher of the Year. Brian is also the voice of
Talks with Teachers, a top education podcast on iTunes as well as an award-winning blogger for Edutopia.
His writings have appeared in EdWeek, Heineman, and Teaching Channel.
Angelika Becker currently teaches German levels I, III, AP and IB at Carmel High School in Carmel,
Indiana. She earned her BA from Indiana University and her MA in Curriculum and Instruction with
Focus on German Language Pedagogy through the GOLDEN Program at UNL. Recently, she served on the
AATG Executive Committee as the Central Representative. She recently served as chair of the AATG
Kinder- and Jugendliteratur Committee and in addition to her work as an Advanced Placement
Consultant she is an active participant in the AATG/Goethe Trainernetzwerk and gives workshops across
the US.
Angelika has been teaching AP classes for over a decade and conducted many 1-day workshops as well as
APSIs as a College Board Consultant since 2008. Her involvement as an AP development committee
member, AP reader, and AP Question Leader provides her with a high level of expertise that helps her
students in the classroom every day. She is thrilled to be given the opportunity to share her knowledge
with teachers in a variety of settings. At the annual AP Reading, her role on the leadership team allows her
to learn first-hand how AP exams are scored and what AP teachers need to know about student
performance. She currently serves on the AP Steering Committee, where she helps to select the session for
the AP Annual Conference in July in Houston, TX.
Her other professional interests include developing teaching units for Kinder- and Jugendliteratur, films,
music, and current events incorporating multiple intelligences and differentiated instruction. An active
GAPP exchange and regular participation in the Indiana academic student competition “Staatskongress”
allows her students to learn outside the classroom.

Mary Pendergraft is in her thirty-third year of teaching in the Department of Classics at Wake Forest
University, a department she currently chairs. Her undergraduate and graduate degrees are from UNC-
Chapel Hill.
Her participation in the A.P. Latin program began as a Reader in 1998; since that time she has served as
Table, Question, and Exam Leader, and as Chief Reader. After co-chairing the 2008 Faculty Colloquium,
she was a member of the Course Review Committee and currently sits on Development Committee. In
addition she chaired the SAT II Latin committee, and has been president of both the North Carolina
Classical Association and the Southern Section of CAMWS. She is the recipient of the Merita Award from
American Classical League, the Excellence in College Teaching Award and Ovatio from CAMWS, the
Excellence in Undergraduate Advising Award from Wake Forest University, Excellence in Teaching Award
from SCS, and serves as President of the American Classical League.

Nancy Fenton, M.A., teaches AP Psychology at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois
and online for the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University. She has taught AP
Psychology since 2006 and has served as a reader for the AP Psychology exam since 2008, a table leader
since 2017, and a College Board consultant since 2014. She earned her BA in History and Secondary
Education at Northeastern Illinois University and an MA in Psychology at National Louis University as
well as a second MA in curriculum and instruction with a technology focus also from National Louis
University. Ms. Fenton was awarded the 2013 American Psychological Association (APA) Teachers of
Psychology in Secondary Schools (TOPSS) Excellence in Teaching Award for dynamic teaching and
commitment to the advancement of psychology and has presented at regional conferences for AP
Psychology teachers. She has previously served as a member of the TOPSS board and has worked on
numerous APA initiatives including the performance indicators for the National Standards for High
School Psychology Curricula, and several TOPSS Psychology Unit Lesson Plans. Nancy Fenton is the co-
author of two editions of the review book AP Psychology All Access with Jessica Flitter. She has served on
the high school educator advisory board for the 2nd and 3rd editions of Myers-Dewall AP Psychology
textbook, worked on several other AP psychology textbooks, and writes for the blog Books for Psychology
Class. She is the coauthor of the new iScore5™ Psych app created for AP® Psychology students to prepare
for the exam.
Carlos A. Gómez, a native of Colombia, has taught various levels of Spanish, including AP Spanish
Language and Culture and AP Spanish Literature and Culture. However, AP Spanish Language has been
his primary focus for the last fifteen years. He taught at Trinity Preparatory School for twelve years and
has taught at The Canterbury School of Florida for the past eleven years, where he is the World Languages
Department Chair. He has been a grader for the AP Spanish Language Exam for fourteen years, and has
acted as a Table Leader for the last ten years. For the past six years he has worked as an Endorsed Spanish
Consultant to the College Board, leading numerous summer institutes and one day workshops across the
southeast region. Carlos was also the co-author of “Fast Track to a 5: Preparing for the AP Spanish
Language and Culture Examination”.

Kara Macsuga has taught for 23 years, and for the past 13 years has held National Board Certification. Her
degree was earned from Florida Atlantic University in Political Science. In addition to AP World History,
Mrs. Macsuga has taught AP European History at Suncoast High School in Riviera Beach, FL. She has
scored AP World History examinations since 2007 and serves as a Table Leader at the Reading. Mrs.
Macsuga also instructs College Board institutes and workshops as a consultant for AP World History. She
lives in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida with her husband, mother and the youngest of her three children.

Ingrid Pariseau has been teaching mathematics for over 20 years and has taught all levels of secondary
mathematics from 7th grade through Calculus. She holds a B.S. in Mathematics from the State University
of NY at Albany and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University. She has lived and
taught in several states around the country, spending the majority of her teaching career in Texas and
Tennessee. She first started teaching AP Calculus in 2006. Actively involved in professional development
at the district level throughout her career, in 2017 she began consulting for NMSI working with AP
Calculus teachers. She presented at APAC in 2019 and is a consultant for the College Board. She is happily
married with 2 adult children and, in her free time, enjoys traveling, reading, watching movies and sports,
hiking, biking and running.

Priscilla Eng is a Professor of Humanities at Middlesex Community College and teaches both English

Atlanta’s Marist School in 2004. He became an AP reader for the AP Macroeconomics exam in 2008, was

consultant, Matt currently serves on the AP Macroeconomics Test Development Committee. He
previously served on CollegeBoard’s AP Macroeconomics Instructional Design Committee, helping
produce teacher resource materials while also contributing to the development of the Curriculum and
Exam Description and AP Classroom. In addition, Matt has contributed lesson plans to the fourth edition
of the Council for Economic Education (CEE) teacher resource manual and has written questions for
various ETS assessments. Matt co-authored the Fast Track to a 5 test prep manual accompanying N.
Gregory Mankiw’s Principles of Economics textbook and consulted for the AP version of Mankiw’s 8th
Edition. Beyond teaching at Marist, Matt also teaches AP Macroeconomics to students throughout the
nation via One Schoolhouse, an online consortium of schools.
Eliane Kurbegov is a native speaker of French who has taught French at the high school and college levels
in Florida and Colorado. Eliane has been involved with the College Board and AP testing in many
capacities. She is a consultant for the College Board, leads AP workshops and Summer Institutes and is
the monitor of the AP French Teachers Community website for the College Board. She has consistently
participated in AP readings as a table and question leader. Eliane has authored several books published by
McGraw-Hills in addition to having co-authored the AP Textbook Thèmes as well as the Barron’s AP
French Language and Culture Guide.
Nancy Fenton, M.A., teaches AP Psychology at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois

Psychology since 2006 and has served as a reader for the AP Psychology exam since 2008, a table leader
since 2017, and a College Board consultant since 2014. She earned her BA in History and Secondary
Education at Northeastern Illinois University and an MA in Psychology at National Louis University as
well as a second MA in curriculum and instruction with a technology focus also from National Louis
University. Ms. Fenton was awarded the 2013 American Psychological Association (APA) Teachers of
Psychology in Secondary Schools (TOPSS) Excellence in Teaching Award for dynamic teaching and
commitment to the advancement of psychology and has presented at regional conferences for AP
Psychology teachers. She has previously served as a member of the TOPSS board and has worked on
numerous APA initiatives including the performance indicators for the National Standards for High
School Psychology Curricula, and several TOPSS Psychology Unit Lesson Plans. Nancy Fenton is the co-
author of two editions of the review book AP Psychology All Access with Jessica Flitter. She has served on
the high school educator advisory board for the 2nd and 3rd editions of Myers-Dewall AP Psychology

textbook, worked on several other AP psychology textbooks, and writes for the blog Books for Psychology
Class. She is the coauthor of the new iScore5™ Psych app created for AP® Psychology students to prepare
for the exam.
Carlos A. Gómez, a native of Colombia, has taught various levels of Spanish, including AP Spanish
Language and Culture and AP Spanish Literature and Culture. However, AP Spanish Language has been
his primary focus for the last fifteen years. He taught at Trinity Preparatory School for twelve years and
has taught at The Canterbury School of Florida for the past eleven years, where he is the World Languages
Department Chair. He has been a grader for the AP Spanish Language Exam for fourteen years, and has
acted as a Table Leader for the last ten years. For the past six years he has worked as an Endorsed Spanish
Consultant to the College Board, leading numerous summer institutes and one day workshops across the
southeast region. Carlos was also the co-author of “Fast Track to a 5: Preparing for the AP Spanish
Language and Culture Examination”.
David Wilcox is currently a member of the mathematics faculty at The Lawrenceville School in
Lawrenceville, NJ. He has served as a rubric team member, table leader, and reader for the College Board
at the AP Statistics Reading for the past 18 years. Additionally, he has developed and taught courses to
help students prepare for the SAT and ACT. David also has experience as an AP workshop leader and
APSI instructor. In addition to AP Statistics, David teaches Honors Calculus-Based Probability and
Statistics at The Lawrenceville School. In 2006, he was a national nominee for the prestigious Siemens
Award for Advanced Placement for his work in the AP Statistics classroom. David received a Bachelor of
Science in Mathematics from Christian Brothers University in 1989, a Masters of International Business
Studies (Spanish Track) from the University of South Carolina in 1994, and a Masters of Applied Statistics
degree from the University of South Carolina in 2013.

Advanced Placement (AP) program (2016-2020). He has taught United States Government and Politics at
UNCW for 25 years and is the co-author of Judicial Process: Law, Courts, and Politics in the United
States. Dr. Meinhold has been involved with the AP U.S. Government and Politics Program for 20 years
including scoring essays, writing questions, and serving on the Curriculum Design and Assessment
Committee, and serving as Chief Reader. He is also a member of the College Board’s National Academic
Assembly (2020-2023).
My name is Sue Gibson and I will be your APUSH consultant for the week. It will be a very productive

Mrs. Monica Bond-Lamberty is an experienced Advanced Placement World History teacher and a former
member of the AP World History Test Development Committee (TDC). She is a College Board consultant
and has taken part in the annual scoring of the AP World History examination since the first year of the
exam. Monica taught for 9 years in Madison, WI and is currently teaching in Montgomery County, MD.
She has lived (both with her family and on her own) in the Dominican Republic, Poland, Peru, Guatemala,

Japan, and Nicaragua and has traveled a fair amount in Europe, Latin America, Asia and North Africa.
She received her BA in history from Williams College in Massachusetts and her MAT from Brown
University in Rhode Island. Monica has won teaching prizes from the World History Association and had
lessons published. She is also nationally board certified in social studies.
