Tricks and Treats at Halloween

Tricks:Try these tricks to get your kids eating more fruit and veg this halloween.

Treats:Everyone deserves a treat and you’ll have your child shrieking with delight at these ghoulish party treats.

Watermelon Brain – Peel and slice off one end to ensure it sits flat, now carve out your brain pattern and enjoy.

Pumpkin Platter – Use carrot batons, tubs of your favourite dips and cucumber slices to create your very own pumpkin platter.

Boo-nanas – Cut a peeled banana in half, dip into orange juice and then place into a sealable bag that contains shredded coconut and shake. Finally use 2 raisins for eyes. A ghostly way to 5 a day.

Spooky Salad – Create your own monsters by using Basil, tomato,mozzarella, green & black olives and olive oil.

Mummy dogs – Wrap ready to roll pastry around a hot dog and cook in the oven until golden brown and add ketchup or mustard for the eyes.

Worm Sandwich – Slice up a hot dog into long thin slices then add to a pot of hot water. As they boil, the hot dogs will start to curl up, drain and add ketchup to the pot (optional) Serve on a bun.

D.I.Y. Halloween ideasBunch of grapes

Directions:

Blow up small purple or green balloons and carefully pin the tied ends to your kid’s clothes (place more at the top). Pin or glue leaves onto a hat or headband and you’re all set!

What you’ll need:

Long cardboard box, 8 Small round tubs (yogurt tubs can work well), spray paint in your choice of colour.

Directions:

Cut off the bottom flaps of a box and tape down the top flaps, cut out a head hole and arm holes, glue on the tubs or yogurt pots in two rows, bottom facing out and wait till dry. Finally cover fully with spray paint. You may need more than one coat.

Did you catch any of the tennis over the summer? Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer rushing back and forth on the courts at Wimbledon. Andy Murray and the GB team securing a great victory against Luxembourg in the Davis Cup. Did it inspire you to have a go too?

Tennis is a great game that everyone can play. It’s brilliant exercise, heaps of fun and can be a great way to meet some new mates. If you want to give it a go, there’s loads of opportunities waiting for you in Glasgow.

Our Mini Tennis Programmes are a great introduction to the sport. They start on smaller courts with lower nets and use soft tennis balls to help you get to grips with the game.

Starting at Mini Tennis Red you can progress through the levels, orange, green and finally yellow

at which point you’ll be ready to dive into some competitive tennis or just enjoy a proper swing about with your mates.

At Glasgow Sport we have two indoor tennis centres, Glasgow Club Scotstoun and Gorbals, where you can play all year round. The courts are ideal for the autumn and winter months when the weather is less friendly. If a sunny day does come along, there are plenty of outdoor tennis courts across the city which are completely free to use. Finally there are a couple of community clubs at Kelvingrove and Queens Park which are always happy to welcome new players.
