Wednesday’s Child KTTV FOX 11 News Every Wednesday & Sunday Night @ 10:00pm Air Date: April 16 & 20, 2014 http://bit.ly/FOX11Child Most young teenagers dream of being a professional athlete or a rap/pop music superstar. And while Luis (2000) is athletic and likes music, the unusual twist to Luis’ story is that he has his sights on ... (wait for it …wait for it) …a Ph.D. in English Literature! To positively reinforce his collegiate goals and dreams of a career in academia, Luis met face- to-face with Dr. William A. Covino – former English professor and current President of California State University Los Angeles – for some academic advising straight from the top. Luis is a bright and engaging young man with a passion for literature who enjoys skateboarding and who also plays the trumpet. During his personal academic advisement at CSULA, Luis was reminded that playing a musical instrument enhances creativity. President Covino also shared that the study of literature coalesces with the understanding of people from the psychological and sociological perspectives at different times in history. Like a true scholar, Luis asked many salient questions to help prepare him for his future. Luis already has a love for Walt Whitman and Edgar Allan Poe, so to expand his literary horizons Luis attended (at the arrangement of the University President’s Office) his very first college class – Classical and Medieval Traditions in English Literature with Professor Calabrese. And our well-rounded honor student actively participated in the course discussion and made it obvious that he is destined for college. While his future holds lots of scholarly possibilities, what Luis needs now is a loving and supportive permanent family to guide and encourage him along the way.
