Once Upon a Time on Dragon Mountain

On Wednesday, April2, 2014, the monthly CHSSC meeting took place at Castelar school. Guest speaker Jeff Chan refle.cted on his life jouney from his days as a teen as Mr. Chinatown to the founding and success of the reknowned lion dance troupe the Immortals. The presentation gave us a colorful glimpse into this unique and entertaining story. Much of his story is chronicled in Jeff Chan's book Once Upon a Time on Dragon Mountain.

2014 Ching Ming Festival

On Saturday, AprilS, 2014, the CHSSC hosted the annual Ching Ming (Chinese Memorial Day) Festival. Ceremonies took place at the Los Angeles County Crematorium and continued at the historic Chinese Memorial Shrine at Evergreen Cemetery. The Shrine stands at the center of what was once a 19th century Chinese cemetery. Built in 1888 by the people of Los Angeles' Old Chinatown, the Shrine is considered the earliest extant Chinese structure in Los Angeles.
