Some 73,000 PropertyOwners Advised of UnpaidBills from Tax Year 2011Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas said today her

office has urged some 73,000 property owners to paydelinquent bills immediately to avoid their unpaidtaxes from being offered for auction at the Annual TaxSale in August.

Pappas’ warning was for owners of homes, busi-nesses and land with unpaid bills for tax year 2011(originally payable in 2012). To ensure that paymentsare recorded before the Tax Sale occurs, the bills canbe paid:

• Online at cookcountytreasurer.com before mid-night, July 26, 2013.

• At any Chase Bank facility by the close of busi-ness, August 1, with a certified check, cashier’s checkor money order. Personal checks are not accepted.

This year’s Annual Tax Sale is a four-day auctionfrom August 5 through August 8 at which tax buyersbid on unpaid taxes which they then pay. Owners whoredeem pay steep penalties and interest costs to the taxbuyers. If an owner does not redeem, the tax buyer canask a court for title to the property.

“Don’t let that happen,” Pappas said. “For most ofus, our home is our biggest investment. Don’t risklosing it for an unpaid bill.”

To alert owners about the Tax Sale, the Treasurer’sOffice published lists of more than 73,000 delinquen-cies in newspapers and also sent certified-mail noticesto the owners.

Pappas said owners should pay delinquent bills be-fore they pay the current Second Installment bill fortax year 2012, issued at the beginning of July and bear-ing an August 1st due date.

Longtime Ritaman, John O’Neill ’79, Hired as Directorof Institutional Advancement

Pictured: President Ernie Mrozek, John O'Neill, Fr. Tom McCarthy O.S.A. & Principal Brendan Conroy. St. Rita has announced the hiring of John O’Neill ’79 as the Director of Institutional Advancement. O’Neill,

a graduate of St. Rita in 1979, has spent the last 30 years serving in key roles with highly admired companiessuch as IBM and Xerox. A highly respected leader and manager, O’Neill’s main responsibilities included thesale of software products which peaked into the millions on a yearly basis. For his accomplishments, IBM pre-viously recognized him as the Worldwide Account Executive of the Year. O’Neill believes these experiences willpropel him into success in his new role.

“When this opportunity arose, I thought it would be the perfect chance to apply the lessons I've learned overthe past 30 years in business to further advance the mission of St. Rita and build on our proud 108-year oldhistory,” O’Neill commented.

John is also a highly regarded college football referee. For the last 11 years he has been a member of the BigTen Football officiating staff and has refereed many bowl games, including the 2009 Orange Bowl and this pastyears’ Big Ten Championship game.

John is no stranger to the St. Rita family, having served as a valued contributor to the Board of Directors forthe last five years. His intimate knowledge of both the opportunities and challenges at St. Rita made him astandout among other candidates.

“This role is both challenging and humbling at the same time,” O’Neill stated. “I look forward to hitting theground running, meeting with our students, faculty and staff, alumni and friends of St. Rita to help carry on themission and traditions of this wonderful institution.”

Long before this, he walked the halls of St. Rita where he built a lasting legacy serving as a captain on theschool’s first IHSA state championship football team in 1978. John’s success on thefield carried over into his business career and President Ernie Mrozek, feels thatconsistency will carry over into his role at St. Rita.

“John is very passionate about St. Rita, our mission, and the great opportunitiesthat lie ahead,” Mrozek stated. “This passion, combined with his strong communi-cation and interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate relationships, will be invalu-able to St. Rita in his new role.”

John is the middle link in a three generation St. Rita family, following in thefootsteps of his late father, Bill O’Neill, ’41, and paving the way for his sonsDanny, ’09 and Mike, ’11. He and his wife, Peg, have been married for 25 years, and also have two wonderful daughters, Megan and Molly Rose. The O’Neill’shave lived on the southwest side of Chicago for many years and currently reside inEvergreen Park.

When asked what St. Rita has meant to him, John O’Neill simply stated, “Notmany people get the opportunity to go home again. I've been part of several win-ning organizations in my life and I just rejoined one of the best.”
