Thisbookletwaspreparedtoassistyouasyouplanforyourweddinginourchurch.Yourweddingwillbeamostimportanteventinyourlife.Wehopethatitwillbeajoyfulmomentofgraceforyou,yourfamilies,andyourfriends.

WeddingGuidelinesforNonParishionersSt.JoanofArcisabeautifulchurchandwearehappytoshareherasourscheduleallows,providingyourabilitytoadheretoourguidelines.Beforeweareabletoconfirmaweddingdatehere,weneedaletterfromyourPastor/Priestconfirmingthefollowing:

• YouarearegisteredmemberofaCatholicChurch&yourparishgrantspermissionforyoutobemarriedhere;

• YourPastor/Priestwillofficiateyourwedding;

thePastorofSt.JoanofArclimitshiscelebrationstoParishionersofSt.JoanofArc;

• Annulmentsmustbecompletedpriortoschedulingawedding

• ThatyourPastor/Priestwillberesponsibleforall

necessarypaperworkandforprovidingamarriagepreparationprogram.

• TheappropriatefeehasbeenreceivedbySt.

WeddingGuidelinesforParishionersTheCatholicChurchrecognizestheimportanceofgoodmarriagepreparationprogramsasameansforhelpingengagedcouplesbegintheirmarriageonastrongfoundation.St.JoanofArcChurchsharesthisviewandiscommittedtoworkingwithourengagedcouplesthroughourmarriagepreparationprogram.Ourprogramincludesthefollowing:Aninitialinterviewwiththepriestyouwanttoofficiateyourweddingtodiscussyourpreliminarymarriageplans.Registeredparishionersmustdothisatleastsixmonthspriortothedateyouwishforyourwedding.Annulmentsmustbecompletedandgrantedpriortoschedulingawedding.Itisduringthisfirstmeetingthatadateforyourweddingwillbeconfirmed.Atthisfirstmeeting,youwillbeaskedtoidentifyyourchurchofbaptism.Ourparishsecretarywillcontactthechurchwhereyouwerebaptizedforanotatedbaptismalcertificate.Materialspertainingtotheweddingceremonywillbegiventoyousothatyoucanbegintheprocessofplanningyourceremony.Finalplansforyourweddingceremonywillbemadeduringthesecondmeetingwiththepriestwhowillofficiateyourwedding.Betweenmeetingwiththepriestandthewedding,youwillaccomplishthefollowing:

TobitWeekendRetreat:TheweekendsareheldatFatimaRetreatHouse.AcopyoftheTobitbrochurewillbegiventoyouduringyourinitialinterviewwiththepriestwhowillbeofficiatingyourwedding.orPre-CanaProgram:ThisprogramisofferedthroughtheArchdioceseofIndianapolis.Informationalmaterialswillbeprovided.Oranotherprogramis“OneinChrist”whichisalsoofferedbytheArchdiocese.

2. “Prepare”MarriageProgramwithaSt.JoanofArc“SponsorCouple.”Thedetailsofthisprogramwillbediscussedduringyourinitialmeeting.

3. CompletetheNFP(NaturalFamilyPlanning)course.

ASecondMeetingwiththePriest:Thismeetingwillprovideyoutoreviewyourexperiencewithyourmarriagepreparationandtobegintheplanningprocessforyourweddingceremony.Thepriestwillreviewtheceremonywithyousothatclearandappropriateliturgicalplanswillbedevelopedpriortoyourrehearsal.**Ifyoumovefromourparishduringtheperiodpriortothewedding,wewillrequirealetterofpermissiontomarryfromyournewparish.Additionally,youwillbeconsideredanonparishionerandwillneedtopaytheadditionalnonparishionerweddingfees.

PlanningYourWeddingatSt.JoanofArc

SchedulingaWeddingTheinitialcontactistobemadebyeitherthebrideorthegroom.Thechurchstaffworksonlywiththebridalcouple(nofamilymembersoroutsideweddingcoordinators).TherearenoholdsplacedondatesanddatesarenotscheduleduntilalloftheappropriatepaperworkandfeesarereceivedintheParishOffice.

DatesandTimesofWeddingsWeddingsatSt.JoanofArcChurcharecelebratedonSaturdays(excludingtheseasonsofAdventandLent)ateither11:30amor2:30pm.

• TherearenoFridayweddings.• TherearenoSaturdayeveningweddings.• Youwillhaveathree-hourblockoftimeatthe

Church,10:00amto1:00pmforan11:30weddingor1:00to4:00pmfora2:30wedding.

RehearsalsRehearsalsareheldonFridayeveningspriortotheweddingceremonyandaretolastnolongerthanonehour.BecauseofourMassschedule,rehearsalsarescheduledfrom6:30pmto7:30pm.Ifaweddingisscheduledat11:30am,thatrehearsalwillbeat4:00pm.

weddinghostesssothatyourdecorationsdonotconflictwiththeliturgicalenvironmentoftheChurch.Asageneralnorm,baseduponthebeautyofSt.JoanofArcChurch,extensiveuseofflowersanddecorationsareunnecessary.Flowersareprohibitedonthehighaltar.Seasonaldecorations,flowers,bannersthatareinplaceforaparticular,Liturgicalseasonwillremaininplace.Onlydriplesscandlesorcandlestands/holdersthatwillpreventwaxfromspillingmaybeused.Ifaunitycandleisused,pleaseprovideapillarcandlewithsidetapersinaholder.Planfloralarrangementsandtheirplacementsotheywillnotinterferewiththemovementsofthepriest,oftheweddingparty,norwithvisibilityfortheassembly.Deliveryofflowersaretobeschedulednoearlierthan10:00amforan11:30amweddingand1:00pmfora2:30wedding.FlowersplacedforMaryaretobeleft.Ifyouwanttokeepyourfloralarrangements,theymustberemovedthedayoftheweddingbefore4:00pm.Decorationsforindividualpewsmaynotbeattachedwithwire,tapeormaterialsthatwillleavemarks,residueordamagethewood.Theuseofanaislerunnerisprohibitedduetosafetyconcerns.Artificialflowerpetalsmaybedroppedbutmustberemovedbytheweddingpartybeforeleaving.Becauseofmaintenanceconcerns,theuseofricebirdseed,confettietc.,isprohibitedinsideoroutsideof

theChurch.Blowingbubblesorringingbellsarepopularalternatives.

Photographs&VideoTheChurchmaybeusedbeforeandaftertheceremonyforphotographs,timepermitting.Experiencehasshownthatitisbettertohaveall(oratleastmost)ofyourpicturestakenbeforetheweddingceremonyIfyourphotographerneedstosetupaspecialareatotakepicturespriortothewedding,youareaskedtousethe“childcareroom”locatedonthesecondlevelabovetheChapel.EquipmentandaccessoriesmaynotbestoredintheChapel.Theuseofallcameraandvideoequipmentmustbeunobtrusiveduringtheceremony.Photographersmayusethemainaisleduringtheentranceprocession.Allotherphotographsandvideosmustbedonewithinthesidepewsections.Nophotographyequipmentmaybeplacedbehindthealtarrail.

DressingAreasforAttendantsBridesandbridalattendantsmayusethebridalroomlocatedinthesouthwestareaoftheChurch.Groomsandgroom’sattendantsmayusethechild-careroomabovetheChapel.PersonalbelongingsmaynotbestoredintheChapel.

LiturgicalMusicAppropriatemusicwhichischosen,planned,andprovidedforyourweddingwillgreatlyenhancetheceremony.Inordertoachievegoodliturgicalmusicforyourweddingceremony,wewouldaskengagedcouplestocontactourDirectorofMusicMinistrieswhocanhelpcoordinateallfacetsofliturgicalmusic.AllmusicatweddingsmustbeinaccordancewiththeliturgicalguidelinesoftheArchdioceseofIndianapolis.TheDirectorofMusicMinistriescanassistinprovidingorganists,cantors,orothermusicians.YouarewelcometouseyourownmusicministerswiththeapprovaloftheSaintJoanofArcDirectorofMusicMinistries.AllmusicchosenforweddingsmustbeapprovedofbytheDirectorofMusicMinistriesandPastorofSaintJoanofArc.Theorganist,cantor,andmusiciansdonotattendtheweddingrehearsal.
