Great Debate Congratulations to our four students who participated in last weeks ‘Great Debate’ held at Mullaway Primary School. I was told that the team which comprised of; Georgia Bartley, Hope Brown, Will Dunning and Isabella Nolte produced the best result ever by a team from Corindi. Well done! Peer Support The second lesson as a part of the schools Peer Support Program will take place for all students K-6 this Wednesday. Last week students got to know about each other in their respective groups. This week groups will be focusing on ‘feelings’. Clothing As the warmer weather arrives, more and more clothing is being left lying around. Most of it is unmarked making it very hard to track down owners. Please take the time to check your child’s clothing to ensure that it is marked with their name.

Missing A black mesh sportsbag containing Corindi Public School sports shirts (blue with school logo) is missing. If anyone has knowledge of this please let us know. Class of the Week Congratulations to Kinder who were named ‘Class of the Week’. They will look after ‘Garbi’ for the week. Year 6 will present an item at next week’s assembly.                 Sick Students

At the moment we have a number of illnesses passing through the community. Unfortunately, some students are coming to school already sick which isn’t good for the child or others in the school who might also catch the complaint. Please help us by keeping sick children at home.                       Mr Rayner

Hi from Kindy Thanks to those families who have sent in toys and games for our Spring Fair basket. The kids get a white card for bringing something in. This Friday is ‘Fun Friday’ in Kindy. We are going to plant some veges in our rejuvenated garden (thanks Tanya!), do some cooking (thanks Mrs Hoskin!) and other fun activities. It should be a great day. Kindy kids are doing some great writing in class—it’s amazing to see how far they’ve come! Have a great week!               Mrs Wiggins Year K/1 News Thank you to all those people who have sent in ‘goodies’ for our Spring Fair basket. As part of our COGS unit the students have been talking about how they come to school and how they might go to school in the future. They need to ask their parents and grandparents how they went to school and the games they played so we can make a comparison of past, present and future. Mrs Fripp

Year 1/2 News Congratulations to Asher Goodman—our first Silver Award winner. Many others are close to their Bronze or Silver. In COGS we are talking about Families—What makes a Family? How are Families the same and different? Also the students are asked to bring in an item (photo, award, toy, souvenier etc) that holds a special memory. Each child will be asked to give a short talk about their item. In year 2 Maths we are exploring numbers to 1,000. Year 2 Camp— The overnight camp for all Year 2 students will be at the Woolgoolga Surf Club on Thursday afternoon of October 18, Week 2 of Term 4. More information closer to the date. Mrs Davies Year 2/3 News Homework and Spelling were given out yesterday. A reminder that Home Reading Books should be re-turned every day. Our Year 3 Camp will be held on the 10th, 11th and 12th October, which is first week back after the holidays. All payments should be made as soon as possible. Our class has a new student, Trae. We welcome him to Corindi Public School. Mr Taylor

Year 4 News Homework and Spelling sheets were given out yesterday and are due in on Friday. In Grammar this week we are looking at tense in a sentence and verb groups. In maths we have been looking at addition and multiplication patterns. We are going to move on to 2D shapes, Flips, Slides and Turns, Position and Compass Points. In writing we are going to write an Information Report about a famous Australian. The class read out interesting facts about Cascade at yesterday’s assembly. Spring Fair -Year 4 are collecting Car Care Products for our class basket for the Spring Fair. We need donations if we are going to make this a success. So far children have already brought in the following items: Wash and Wax, sponges, metal polish, windscreen wash, air fresheners, cloths, travel mug, wheel cleaner, protectant wipes, and engine degreaser. Mr Hasson Year 5 News Yesterday a project went home for our COGS unit—Making Informed Choices. Students may present their projects using power point or on cardboard. They will choose a topic on either smoking or alcohol. There will be no homework for the rest of the term as students will be busy doing projects. Camp News - We are off to camp on Monday, leaving school at 7:00am so be at school ready to go at 6:40am. We are expecting to return home on Wednesday at 5:00pm. Year 6 News Notes went home yesterday explaining the next instalment of money needed for the Year 6 Queensland Excursion. Yr 6 give a big thank you to our 4 parent helpers, Mrs Buller, Mrs Taylor, Mr Smiles and Mr Bradbury for the extra effort it will take to organise their time and finances to be with us for the 5 days. Yr 6 projects are looking fabulous! We have learnt a lot and look forward to seeing the late ones before the week is over. So far we have one family’s contribution for the “Picnic Hamper”. Thanks Bradburys! This is a P&C initiative for the Spring Fair on the 14th September so any items that would entice bidders in the Silent Auction would be appreciated. Many of our class members are stepping up to the responsibility that goes with being the leaders in our school. As Peer Support leaders, in our first activity last Wednesday, teachers saw some excellent skills. Well done Yr 6! A special mention also to Jed and Max for their consideration and initiative in helping put away the soccer nets at the Mullaway Soccer Shield. When we see your independent efforts we are very proud of you.

Science Extension Groups

This is the last week of Science Extension Groups. It has been a busy but productive experience for the students who have thrown themselves into their chosen Area of Inquiry. They have extended their skills and knowledge creating a “Glogster” and are now problem solving to create a model that demonstrates one of the things they have learnt. If any parents would like to drop in between 2:30 and 2:45pm on Thursday, or 8:30am - 8:45am on Friday, to see what we have done, please do. Mrs Owen

Book Fair

We are still waiting on the orders from the Book Fair to arrive. As soon as they do I will hand them out to students. Mrs Veugen

State Rugby....by Max Woodhouse

On Monday 20th August, my family and I went to Armidale to watch me play Rugby Union for the North Coast at the State Championships. The first team we played were called C.I.S, an excellent side so we lost. We then played against the other teams and we won 1 out of 5 games. C.I.S won the State Championships because they won all of their games. I was proud to be chosen to play with the North Coast side.

The Great Debate Day.....by Georgia,Will,Hope and Bella

On Tuesday, 21st August, the Corindi Public School Debating team went to Mullaway Public School. To debate against 4 other teams: Sandy, Woopi, Mullaway and Kororo. Our first topic was: Refugees Arriving in Australian Waters Should be Accepted. We took the affirmative case against Sandy and won! Secondly, we challenged Mullaway. They were persuavive and eloquent so they won. When we challenged Kororo we lost again but our last debate was against Woopi and we won! We did pretty well because we only had 30mins to prepare for each debate. Even though Kororo won the competition, our team got the best score Corindi has had since they started going to the Great Debate Day. We came 3rd!!!
