Project Overview
The name of the proposed web site is the 1stwebs Site Designing Course 2006. This site will
contain a course designed to introduce the student to the fundamentals of web page creation
and web graphic design with emphasis on the creation of web pages that meet multi-browser
and cross-platform requirements. It will contain tutorials and lessons on how to create and
manage web sites using the most current web industry tools that include Macromedia’s
Dreamweaver and Adobe’s Image Ready.
The target audience of the site will be web authors, marketing and communications
professionals, PR professionals, Webmasters, graphics designers, desktop designers, and
technical writers who will enroll for the course. Upon completion, the graduate will be able
to demonstrate how to start and finish a static web Intranet, Internet, or Extranet web site.
This site will contain the primary branding of 1stwebs that consists of its primary color theme,
general look and feel. It will incorporate the previous classes’ site designs and layouts taking
into account the course recommendations given by previous graduates of the course.

Flowchart Description
1. Login. This page will contain the dynamic password login form. Students will be required to
log in prior access to the class site.
2. Home. This page will welcome the students to the site. It will contain the essential
information of how the course will progress each week that includes a list of software needed
for the course, a short description of the Bulletin Board and the Standing Operating
Procedures.
Assignments. This page will list the assigned work the students must finish each week. It will
contain eight weeks of work with due dates of midnight of the next Sunday. Each link in an

assignment week leads to a Word document instruction.
3. Class Pages. This page will display the assignment links of each student. It will contain links
toward the students’ work per week. A legend will tell them whether their work is OK, they
need to redo, or under construction.
4. Class Members’ List. This page will contain the individual information of the students. It
lists their contact information, basic computer knowledge, their PC to use for the course, the
kind of web site they want to design, and their course expectations.
5. Syllabus. This page will contain the online course syllabus that will list an overview of the
course, who should attend, course pre-requisites, introduction, the web page creation skills
sets and the graphic design skills set that they will be benefiting from the course.
6. Bulletin Board. This page will contain the link to the class bulletin board. This will be a
PHP-generated forum page and will become the official medium of communication.
7. Chat. This page will contain the link to the chat room which will be another PHP generated
page. This will be used for live discussion between the course director and the students, or by
the students and among themselves for the duration of the class.
8. Email the Class EList. This page will contain the form that will send messages to the class
Email List (EList) on submit. An EList will be created for the more instantaneous message.
9. Thanks. This page will be the landing page of the Email the Class EList page.
10. Logout. This page will contain the Active Server Pages scripts that will automatically logout
the student from the class site.

Development Timeframe
The timeframe for the creation of this web project will be broken down as follows:
1. Creation of template and images optimized for the web: 4 hours
2. Design for functionality of the pages: 8 hours
3. Programming and coding of pages and mail-to forms: 2 hours
4. Quality assurance and usability testing and changes 8 hours
5. Creation of assignment instructions: 40 hours
Total: 72 hours
The development will commence upon approval of this proposal. A QA/Usability test will be
scheduled once about a third of the web site is created. A second QA/Usability test will be
conducted after another third of the site is created. And a final QA/Usability test once the site is
completed.
The temporary (test) site will be located at: http://www.primero.be/sd2006/.
Conclusion
This web site will be designed to benefit interested students to the fundamentals of web page
creation and web graphic designing. Care will be taken that the lessons be as current as possible.
Mistakes noted from previous classes will be incorporated here and as much as possible be
avoided. A fun atmosphere will be encouraged while learning the stringent principles of web site
creation in order to ensure a better training efficacy.
