Virtual Apps Essentials
Citrix Cloud Subscription: Citrix Virtual Apps Essentials is delivered through Citrix Cloud and helps deploying application workloads within Azure subscription with ease. Services like Gateway Service, Delivery Controller and Workspace run in Citrix Cloud. A Citrix Cloud account is required to complete the on boarding process.
Cloud Connectors: Each Azure resource location must have two or more, which communicate with Citrix Cloud. Virtual Apps Essentials Service handles the Cloud Connector deployment automatically. Two Windows Server VMs are created in Azure ResourceManager and then a Cloud Connector is installed automatically on each server.
Master Image: Service uses a Windows Server Master Image to deploy Virtual Machines containing all the applications that business needs to make available to users. Master Image is created in Azure for production environments and its used during Catalogue creation by Citrix Virtual App Essentials.
AD Domain Controller: A Domain Controller is a server that runs a version of the Windows Server operating system and has Active Directory Domain Services installed.
RD License Server: Remote Desktop Licensing manages the Remote Desktop Services client access licenses (RDS CALs) that are required for each device or user to connect to an RD Session Host server.
File Server: In computing, a file server is a computer attached to a network that has the primary purpose of providing a location for shared disk access. It is used for storing user profile disks.

Azure Virtual Machines
Azure Virtual Machines is one of several types of on-demand, scalable computing resources that Azure offers. Typically a VM is chosen when more control is needed over the computing environment than the other choices offer.
An Azure VM gives the flexibility of virtualization without having to buy and maintain the physical hardware that runs it. However, it is still needed to maintain the VM by performing tasks, such as configuring, patching, and installing the software that runs on it.
What is Azure Virtual Machines ?
Why use Azure Virtual Machines ? Create Linux and Windows virtual machines in seconds Powerful enough for any business Pay only for what you use Scale to what you need
Enhanced Security and Compliance Run Microsoft enterprise applications Integrate with on premise datacenters Support of open-source technologies you already
use and trust
Save up to 80% with Azure Reserved VM Instances and Azure Hybrid Benefit for Windows Server

More Azure, Less Cost
Azure RIs are a way of purchasing Azure base compute with a great price and flexibility, in return for upfront payment
Software Subscriptions are a way of purchasing Windows Server and SQL Server Subscriptions through CSP
1 or 3 year commitment Reduce costs, up to 72% vs Pay-as-you-go Save even more with Azure Hybrid Benefit Exchange or Cancel at any time with flexible terms Pay monthly or annually

Deployment Guide
1. Plan according to System Requirements and Known Issues2. Create a Citrix Cloud Account3. Create a Resource Group4. Provision an Active Directory Domain Controller if not already in place
a) Single VM Active Directory Domain Controller1
b) Two node Highly Available Active Directory Domain Controller1
5. Provision a file share for user profilesa) Single File Serverb) Two-node Storage Spaces Direct Scale-Out File Server
6. Provision Citrix Virtual Apps Essentials7. Prepare and upload a Master Image containing applications2
8. Create a catalogue and publish apps to users3
9. Configure profile management10. Configure Microsoft RDS Licensing4
11. Connect the users12. Monitor the service and machines state
1. Template creates VNet, Subnet, VMs, Disks, Load Balancer, Public IP, etc.2. Master Image VM can be deallocated to eliminate VM compute costs3. During first catalogue creation two A2v2 Cloud Connector VMs are provisioned4. Licenses Server needs to be created even if RDS was purchased during provisioning
