The B.A (Hons.)Jewelry Design program commenced in 2005 as a full time course with an objective
to develop this fraternity as successful career option, as a growing number of aspirants are now
striving to pursue this career option, and at the same time have the opportunity to earn an
internationally recognized degree that will open up future options not only in terms of a lucrative
and satisfying career but also for higher studies in allied fields. The duration of the program is 4
years. The course intervenes to hone and develop specific context and individual expression in each
graduate against their own learning blocks.
Duration : 4 YearsEligibility : 10+2 pass in any discipline with minimum 50% marksLocation : Jaipur / Mumbai / NoidaValidation : Nottingham Trent University
Possible Careers Opportunities –
A Jewellery Design Graduate is well versed with overall requisite knowledge & skills related to
Jewellery product design & development and hence can take over any of the below responsibilities in
an organization or as an individual depending on ones own interest -
• Researcher
• Trend and Forecast Expert (Spotting & Analyzing)
• Market Intelligence Expert (style being the context)
• Design Manager
• Fine Jewellery / Costume Jewellery / Accessory Designer
• Technical / Quality Expert
• Entrepreneurs
Since, India is a rich center of vibrant culture and cultural heritage and one of the biggest
Diamond & Color stone (Gem) processing center and jewellery manufacturing and trading hub of
the Globe, the course team tried to take benefit of it and planned various pockets of interaction
for students to get gained from it. The program leverages from these rich metaphors and
appropriately dovetails the learning schemes at appropriate junctures to be able to help them
imbibe contextual learning through it.
Most importantly the program hones creativity, innovation and critical professional judgment
along with intellectual acumen to develop and communicate conceptual arguments rooted in a
holistic perception of Jewelry domain.
4 YEARS BA (HONS) DEGREE - Jewellery Design, (Validated by Nottingham Trent University, UK) is a 4
year full time engagement course
Foundation Year
Year 1 - Introduction to Design Fundamentals First year introduces and familiarizes students with common
fundamentals of design (Visual Studies, Design Concepts, Cultural Studies, Material Exploration, Communication
Skills, and Computer Skills) to build their fundamental knowledge for the chosen specialized domain. They also
develop a contextual learning with different project based module to understand the real-world problem and try
to provide the appropriate solution. This year is a kind of an exploratory phase where student opens to the
possibilities of various design discipline.
First Year Specialization
Year 2 - Introduction to Design Principles Second year introduces students to principles of design in
combination with various manufacturing techniques, technologies and there application in relation to jewellery
design/product. They are set free to learn and explore, it is first time exposure for students to understand
jewellery from the design/material/manufacturing/techniques and presentation point of view. This is the time
when they learn and sharpen the required skills (Technical & Design) both.
Year 3 - Development of the Intellect
Third year focus on evolving and extending design ideas to develop diverse or similar range and
collection with precious materials through intensive research and product development process of
precious jewelry domain through managing a project process from a theoretical base and apply it
to set project work .
Year 4 - Welcome to the real world
Fourth year let students set their foot out into the industry and faces the professional world. This
is a great way to learn and gives the student all the right exposure and learning for their future in
the field of design. The students are mentored by both their faculty and their industry employee
before they start working on their final project. Jewellery Design final graduating project aims to
draw upon and integrate the learning of the modules completed across all the levels and to apply
this integrative learning to identify and respond to design opportunities in the Jewelry sector and
develop design collections.
1st Year - Level 0 - Fundamentals of design common for all
Semester 1:In this semester student learn all the common fundamental of design with the modules as Visual Studies, Design Concepts, Cultural Studies, Material Exploration, Communication Skills, and Computer Skills to build their fundamental knowledge for the chosen specialized domain.
Semester 2:In this semester students develop a contextual learning with different project based module to understand the real-world problem and try to provide the appropriate solution.Bridge Class (Jewelry Design)The bridge class works like a bridge between their common fundamental and the specialized domain as Jewelry here students explore the basic fundamental and techniques of jewelry
Course Modules
Semester: 3
Jewellery Design, Rendering & Presentation TechniquesIn this module students learn methods of rendering of metal forms, gemstones and other materials used in jewellery; rendering and presentation of jewellery objects and design concepts in interesting and informative manner. Metal Working Techniques & Design Applications In this module students learn basic knowledge in terms of Jewellery fundamentals and application methods; product raw materials, related processes and manipulation technique; technical fundamentals and related terminologies; practical application and skill development exercises.
