Existing data warehouse and analytics system was discontinued
The decision to switch to EPIC was already made, and the existing system was unable to sync with EPIC
Needed a platform to deliver Balanced Scorecards (BSC) in a portal format for 700+ managers and admins
Unable to merge data sources in previous system
System was slow for end users
Limited in terms of predictive analytics

Replicate Balanced Scorecard Format in a short period of time
Reduce time end users spent looking for data
Need for a vehicle to deliver more complex analytics in an html format
Need for a system that was able to interact with various data sources and combine metrics in the same portal
10
Defining Needs
St. Luke’s University Health Network
Deliverable: Create a portal-based application that is able to reproduce the existing Balanced Scorecards grid from data in App Studio for various hospital service lines for 700+ users with drill capabilities in a friendly and intuitive Web-browser interface.
Scorecard portals broken out by campus.
A network rollup of metrics for all 6 campuses within the service line.
Conditional formatting for above and below achievement thresholds.
Drill capable metrics that allow for patient level detail.

Project Scope
St. Luke’s University Health Network
Buy vs. Build
Covered 70% of requirements
Project was a direct conversion – little design work involved
Builders took formal Web Focus training post purchase
Remaining 30% was covered by St. Luke’s developers and assistance from the vendor.
Rapid implementation

QuikMetrix is a truly configurable WebFOCUS 8 portal accelerator (or template) that delivers a fully functional business intelligence
application for display, charting and drilling of metrics/measures/key performance indicators (KPI’s) in a matter of weeks without requiring
any application development . . . and without breaking the bank.

Don’t Build It . . . Configure It!!
Branding (Client logo and colors)
Add tabs & change charting page layouts via WF Portal Builder
Specify dimensions and dimension-levels via metadata
Define the metrics & their queries
Set the metric attributes (chart types, trend, budget, health indicator, etc.) via metadata
Add Users
Test & Deploy . . .
Then repeat!!

Participate in a Collaborative Application Community
Email your enhancement suggestions. Selected features are worked into the code-base with each new client implementation.
The QuikMetrix code-base gets better and better with each client’s input!
New versions of the code-base are posted to the QuikMetrix cloud repository after each client install.
Download from the cloud and upgrade your QuikMetrix InfoApps yourself, or contract IBI/RDC to perform the upgrade.
Each QuikMetrix client gets a free one-year subscription to Basecamp for code-base downloads (small “for-fee” annual subscription thereafter).

app_control_detail file

controls
Creates a unique name for rolling
date view
Designates date
Tab names must match file name
St. Luke’s University Health Network
42
portal_kpi_box_crosswalk file
Identifies the portal that the
metric is associated with
Must match ID in kpi_box_header
St. Luke’s University Health Network
43
Metric ID Naming Convention
Metric ID’s are 5 digits long
Metrics ending in 0 are Actual metrics (parent metrics)
Metrics ending in 1-9 are Sub Metrics (child metrics)
First 2 digits indicate a specific portal series
Color code the rows in your kpi_box_header file to indicate the difference between Actual and Sub metrics
St. Luke’s University Health Network
44
Computing Metrics
Actual (parent) metrics built on Sub metrics should be calculated in the kpi_box_header
Example:C = (A / B)*100
Build metrics A and B separately, then build metric C with a compute statement
C
A
B

45
Holding Metrics in WebFOCUS
Two options exist for controlling the publication of metrics:
kpi_box_is_active
kpi_box_is_display If is_active = 1, WebFOCUS reads the metric
If is_active = 0, WebFOCUS skips the metric If is_display = 1, WebFOCUS displays the
metric
If is_diaplay = 0, WebFOCUS hides the metric
It is recommended to activate sub metrics, but hide them in the portals
