WUdlife has the foflowing comments:

1. Maintain the Option 3 rninmum 01150 m setback from St. Adophe Coulee as per their Environmental PolicyArea. This will help maintain the couee as an important wildth’e riparian and movement corrkior.

2. Construction activities should be undertaken during the winterto the greatest extent possbe to rnnirnizecor.flict with migrating/nesting birds, and to minimize impact on riparian areas.

3. Borrow pits and storm water retenton basins be bioengineered (i.e. edges re-vegetated to and maintained asnative grasses) so as to offset any disrupUon or loss of habftat within or near the St. Adoph coulee.

4. A pre-constructon survey to deternine pre5ence/absence of endangered species (with apprDpriate mitigation ifpresent) within the construction footprint shoud be undertaken. This is especiaHy important f they pursueOption 4 and its immediate proximity to the St. Adophe Coulee. But defer to Chris on whether this is needed.

Post-conssuction mor.itorirg for and control of invasive species (i.e. purple oosestri’e) is required.

On behalf of the ‘Nater Quaflty Management Section o Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship I reviewed theproposal for the St. Adolphe dike expansion. Based on review of the proposal do no have any outstanding concernsthat could not be addressed by license conditions and the use of best practices.

Of principe concern wouW be possible impacts to the St. Adophe Cou:ee immediately east of the Project area througherosion and 5ediment transport from the nearby construction area.

• The proponents advised to implement effective sediment and erosion control practices• Minimize the amount of vegetated area adjacent to the Coulee that’s ceared• Stabilize and re-vegetate exposed areas• Avoid working in sensitive areas with heavy equipment during wet condtions.

• The proponent should also ensure that all equipments kept free of leaks of fuel and other petroleum products,and m&ntain a supply of absorbent materials on site at all times.

The spread of pathogens is becoming an increasing concern to the farming community and to MAFRO. Biosecuritymeasures should be included in the construction plan to prevent the spread of sail-borne pests (disease, weeds,nematodes) in agricultural soils by minimizing soil movement between fields and across Right of Ways (ROW).Implementation strategies during construction should include cleaning/washing equipment before coming on site andbetween land owner fields and avoiding activities that would transfer soil to different fields (I.e. reducing trafficbetween separate fields in wet weather).
