Still Easter?Easter stands at the center of the Christian faith and human history because Jesus’ resurrection from the dead…

is an historical event that grounds the Christian faith in reality

is proof to the world that Jesus is God’s Son and that his payment counted for the sins of the world. We are freely forgiven because of Jesus. (Romans 4:25)

assures us that the power of death has been destroyed and God will one day raise believers from the dead to live before him in a perfect world. (John 14:19)

gives us new life and hope as we live here on earth. (1 Peter 1:3)

For this reason, even though most of the world has moved on the Christian Church continues to celebrate Easter as we focus our attention on the what the resurrection means for us.

CONFESSION OF SINSP: God is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and rich in love. He does not treat

us as our sins deserve nor punish us according to our guilt. Instead he looks upon us in compassion, forgives our sin, and heals our lives. Therefore, let us confess our sins in the presence of God and one another.

C: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.

2

P:

As tender as a loving father is to his child, so gentle is God with you. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so vast is God's love for you. As far as east is from west, so far God removes your sin from you. He renews your life through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Blessed be God who crowns us with mercy and love!

C: Blessed be God forever!

C (sings): This is the Feast

L: Worthy is Christ, the Lamb once slain, Whose blood was shed to give freedom for all. Power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and blessing; come give glory to Christ!

C: (Refrain)

3

L: Sing out with joy, all people of God! Join in the song of creation! Blessing and honor, glory and might to God and the Lamb forever more!

C: (Refrain)L: This is the feast for praise and rejoicing,

For the Lamb, the one who was slain, Will come forth now and begin God's reign! Sing all you people, sing Alleluia!

C: (Refrain twice)

PRAYER OF THE DAYP: O God, by the humiliation of your Son you lifted up this fallen world from the

despair of death. By his resurrection to life, grant your faithful people gladness of heart and the hope of eternal joys; through your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C: Amen.

The Word of God†

FIRST LESSON Acts 4:8-12Peter points the people to the Old Testament Scriptures predicting that Jesus would be rejected. However, Salvation is found in him!

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11 Jesus is

“‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

† The public reading from Scripture can be traced back to the synagogue service (Luke 4:16-21). From Apostolic times the reading of carefully chosen lessons from the Apostles and Evangelists has been the central part of Christian worship.

VERSE OF THE DAYCongregation is invited to join leader.

THE SECOND LESSON 1 John 1:1-2:2Everything that the apostles had seen and heard is written in the Word. This Word brings life and light, removing darkness from the believer’s heart!

1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we

5

proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our joy complete.5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

1My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

NICENE CREEDWe believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,of all that is,seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,

6

eternally begotten of the Father,God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,of one being with the Father.

Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven,

was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

HYMN OF THE DAY Like the Golden Sun Ascending | 147 (v. 1-3,5)

THE SERMON TEXT Luke 24:36-4936 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood

among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

7

37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41

And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.

44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

SERMON THE RISEN CHRIST IS PRESENT IN THE WORD!Luke 24:36-49

OFFERING“Each person should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” - 2 Corinthians 9:7

LORD’S PRAYERC: Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,

and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

THE SACRAMENTP: The Lord be with you.C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts.C: We lift them up to the Lord.P: Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.C: It is right to give him thanks and praise.P: It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places

give you thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lived among us as a human being and revealed his glory as your only Son, full of grace and truth. Therefore with all the saints on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your holy name and join their glorious song:

9

THE WORDS

OF INSTITUTION

‡ This ancient song joins the words of the angels who sing before the throne of God in heaven (Isaiah 6) with the shouts of the crowds as Jesus rode into Jerusalem to win our salvation (Matthew 21).

10

P: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

The peace of the Lord be with you always.C: Amen.
