Page 2: gplchurch.com  · Web viewThe word altar is first used in Genesis 8:20 when Noah built an altar to the Lord after leaving the ark. However, the idea was present as early as Genesis

Genesis 35:1-4 Then God said to Jacob, “Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”2 So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes. 3 Then come, let us go up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone.”Genesis 35:7-14 There he built an altar, and he called the place El Bethel,[a] because it was there that God revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother.8 Now Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died and was buried under the oak outside Bethel. So it was named Allon Bakuth.[b]9 After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram,[c] God appeared to him again and blessed him. 10 God said to him, “Your name is Jacob,[d] but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.[e]” So he named him Israel. And God said to him, “I am God Almighty[f]; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants. 12 The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I also give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.” 13 Then God went up from him at the place where he had talked with him.14 Jacob set up a stone pillar at the place where God had talked with him, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it.15 Jacob called the place where God had talked with him Bethel.

What is an Altar- An altar is any structure upon which offerings such as sacrifices are made for religious purposes. It was usually a raised platform with a flat surface. There are over four hundred references to altars in the Bible. The word altar is first used in Genesis 8:20 when Noah built an altar to the Lord after leaving the ark. However, the idea was present as early as Genesis 4:3–4 when Cain and Abel brought their sacrifices to the Lord.

- A place/space of exclusivity we build for God to dwell in our lives/heart.Access to God has always been through an altar. Not the altar of structure, but the altar of the heart. The intention and desires of the heart. Man cannot come to God on man's terms; it must always be according to God’s Will.

1. Altar is a place of sanctity-For Purity and Consecration, (You don’t need guitar in worshipping, Offer yourself) -A place of holiness- Most people get benefit of someone’s altar, (you need to have your own altar) -Lord prepare me to be a sanctuary- The more you look at God in prayer, the more you look like Him. If you keep seeking the face of God in prayer, your desire for sin will disappear. In all probability, the more prayerful you are the more sanctified you become (Luke 9:28-29, Malachi 3:3)

2. Altar is a place of sacrifice- You can not have success without sacrifice -Teach people how to sacrifice; Endurance connected with sacrifice

-No Sacrifice! No Success! -Sacrifices allows us to take what we cannot have. (Pray, Pray, Pray!!! Pray it out!) -It brings strength to you, to be able to give what you can and take what you need. We cannot get the anointing without a sacrifice. The symbol of Christian is not a “crown” … but a “cross.” Suffer with Christ… Reign with Christ… Put the flesh in the cross. Problem with us is Flesh on the throne, and Christ on the cross.

3. Altar is a place of service- Cannot do God’s work and not talk with the God you are working for.-Just do it because it’s right. -Do it because of service. -Service kills Selfishness!-When God moves, everything moves.

4. Altar is a place where God is revealed- I am God almighty. God will reveal himself during the time of need in your altar. God is the God of possibilities. When you pray and stay on the altar you will see the glory and get the answers (Jeremiah 32:27, Mark 10:27, Mark 9:23)

5. Altar defines you- Jacob (Tricker/Deceiver) was renamed to Israel (Prince)This is where God reveals who you are and when you build an altar God will show who you really are. it is the winning altar; you have dominion over all, including dominion over sin. It is a set platform to take charge of your day and life in general.

6. Altar unlocks your destiny- God said to Jacob, there is a great nation on you! God shows your destiny! When you have an altar, it unlocks the door of connection between you and the divine God.Men of prayer are men of supernatural strength

7. Altar releases your inheritance- Inheritance from your parents to your children and children’s children. It is the altar of grace – You obtain favor and mercy at the altar in you.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God —this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will

CONCLUSION:We should not be getting other altars that was made by pastors or other people. Each of us needs to build our own altar that only God can dwell. A place in your life that you don’t give to anyone except God. A place that is reserve exclusively for our GOD for Him to take Authority over our lives and making Him in control over us in everything we do, think or say. Our Altar is putting GOD FIRST IN EVERYTHING. God is calling people to build prayer altars in their lives. God is looking for a man or woman who will stand in the gap that evil will not befall men. An understanding of what to expect when you rightly build a prayer altar in your life will energize you to do great things for our God.
