ASSESSMENT DETAILS

POPULATION

The population is more than 29,000 family, approx. 179,000 individuals are inhabited in the city

There are also more than 500 IDPs families (3,000 individuals), originally from (Qaim – Anna – Rawa), live in the city

All the families are Arabic nationality

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Majority of the roads are paved The city is controlled by the army and Iraqi police forces Most of the people are working in the private sector The city is located alongside with the Euphrates river and there is only one bridge

connects the city with Al-Furat sub-district. The city has been controlled by ISIS for about one year, most of the families became

IDPs during this period. Most of the families returned after the liberation of the city.

ACCESS

Access is allowed for the people of the city, otherwise to be authorized. The city has two entrance points, one for cars and the other for containers and trucks

IDPs: More than 500 IDP families from western part of Anbar live in Heet.

Returnees: More than 29,000 family, approx. 179,000 individuals

Some of the IDP families live in an unfinished or some abandoned buildings. The hosting communities can't support the IDP families, because most of the origin

peoples have damaged property due to ISIS operations in the city. The city lack of houses or residential units to be allocated for IDP families

WATER AND SANITATION

The main source of water is Euphrates as the city is located the alongside with the river The water is distributed by the water station and central pumps There are two water stations in Heet, one of them is damaged while the other two

stations are in service. The filtration of the drinking water is not sufficient.

ELECTRICITY

The main source of electricity is the substation diesel electricity power generators in Haditha city.

The generated electricity is being distributed to the different areas by the sub-stations of electricity which are located inside the city.

There are two substations of electricity in the city, one of them is out of order while the other is in service which is not sufficient to cover all the electricity requirements.

Electricity is accessible for all of the people including IDPs and host community The electricity is not available most of the day. There are electricity transformer and feeder repairing teams. The electricity substation needs urgent renovations

FOOD

There are two ration card registration centers for food stuff distribution Two centers register the names of the IDPs run by the government No NGO / organization distribute food stuff. Food stuff are available in the city, but the purchasing power is at low.

NON- FOOD ITEMS (including heating and fuel)

No NFI s have been distributed and the IDP s are in urgent need for hygiene, health cares, kitchen tools, fans, clothes, milk for children, cash, Sealing of kit, Water tank, Bed sheet, Gas cooker, Hygiene Kit, Jerry Can, Kitchen Set, Mattresses, Nylon rope, Pillow, Cool box, Plastic mat, Plastic Sheet, Rechargeable fan, Rechargeable light and Towels.

MARKET/ LIVELIHOODS

There are more than one market in the city The main market is located in the city center There are small markets around the city The rate of the jobless people is very high with low market commercial activities

HEALTH

There is only one hospital and 3 primary health centers distributed in the city. While one of the PHCs is damaged, others are in dire need for medicines and medical

staff. There was one hospital, with capacity of 200 bed, under construction before ISIS control

on the city, but has been collapsed during the military operation.

EDUCATION

There are about 50 schools in the city Some of them are in urgent need for renovation The salary is paid on due time IDP children are admitted in the schools

PUBLIC BUILDINGS

There are about 65 mosques. There is only one culture center, damaged.

COMMUNICATION WITH COMMUNITIES All the people speak Arabic The main source of information mobile, TVs and word of mouth.
