MATTERS ARISING

CLD Youth Work Co -production meetings in Leith

CLD Youth work has turned a corner since the half day meeting on the 10 March with Anim8. Decision to acknowledge coproduction to continue through Leith Youth Services Network (LYSN). Meetings for the next 3 months have been agreed and dates circulated. At the last meeting it was agreed that a Subgroup would be formed to deal with co-production. Budgetary efficiencies to be met and also to look at more strategic Youth provision in Leith. There is a real time pressure on the group and the sub group need to organise swiftly. A Plan has to be in place by September 2015. Anyone within the VOLT network who are interested need to start engaging now. If interested please call Michael McNaughton at The Junction http://the-junction.org/ please call: 0131 553 0570. JD shall compose a pro forma for Andy from Citadel to complete to ensure the Forum are updated at each meeting on progress.

Action Point

JD to forward pro-forma sheet to Andy at Citadel to report back to the Forum about the Co-production Subgroup.

INFORMATION EXCHANGE

Funding Leith Time Bank is happy to announce it has been awarded one year of funding from the

Integrated Care Fund until March 2016.

Leith Time Bank successfully received 3 consecutive years of funding from the Change Fund Innovation Grant, but this fund was always to come to an end.

Similar objectives - find innovative and preventative approaches to reduce future demand on Health and Social Care.

However, there is a different focus as the Change Fund was to support over 65, the Integrated Care Fund is to provide support for adults (under 65 as well as 65+) with multi-morbidities.

Other considerations which we have to report back on include

- service users have positive experiences and have their dignity respected,

- people are kept safe from harm and

- the project is tackling inequalities: where people who most need care are able to receive it

We are now looking at the most effective and efficient monitoring and evaluation methods to evidence this information.

The amount awarded is less than the previous year, but due to a small surplus still left from 2013/14, the amount overall at LTB’s disposal for 2015/16 will be similar.

670 hours exchanged eg. Match up a deaf lady with a lady who has worked with the deaf community. Had an initial meeting to ensure they got on well. They visited the parliament together and she is planning to accompany to some health visits.

Group membership is where organisations become members of the Time Bank and exchange with other Time Bank organisations or individual members. Eg. Event space, photocopying, sharing best practices, volunteers’ hours, the list is endless. At present, Leith Time Bank has 3 group members and is looking for other organisations to get involved in the Time Bank.

E.g. Fast Forward is a group member of the Time Bank. Leith Time Bank recognises and values Fast Forward volunteers’ work by registering their volunteering hours as Time Credits. For every two Time Credits earned, one credit is stored in Fast Forward’s account and one credit is donated to the Time Bank’s Community Pot. Fast Forward’s Credit can be spent by Fast Forward itself or by volunteers. Fast Forward can spend its Credits for the benefit of the organisation and the office e.g. Time Bank members could paint a room in Fast Forward or other organisations could share photocopying/printing facilities. Volunteers can spend their Credits by exchanging with other Time Bank members e.g. a Fast Forward volunteer became a Time Bank member and learnt German. Time Credits donated to the community pot are distributed to elderly people and carers in the Leith Community so they can benefit from some extra support when they cannot earn Time Credits themselves.

The community pot provides free help and support to older people and carers who are not best placed to contribute to the Time Bank themselves. Time Bank members (both individuals and

2

organisations) have donated to the community pot, so everyone can benefit from the Time Bank. To date, 133 hours have been donated to the community pot. Leith Time Bank really wants to promote this service to Older People and Carers.

E.g. Recently the Community Pot was used for an elderly lady who needed a Time Bank member to show her how to use her iPad, in order to learn how to email her niece, use Facebook and do her weekly groceries shop. Time Credits from the Community Pot was given to the Time Bank member who helped.

The Time Bank continues to provide social activities. Eg. Weekly Spanish Group. This service is offered to everyone in the community, not just Time Bank members.

Next week, MOC will be attending a Scotland-Wide Time Bank Network Day which will cover workshops on funding, sustainability, marketing, insurance, etc

Received 1year funding from the integrated care fund.

Pilmeny Development Project - http://www.pilmenydevelopmentproject.co.uk/

AM informed the meeting that the NE Locality LOOPS group has formed and have held 3 meetings. There is a PDF copy of the LOOPS project booklet. JD shall circulate with minutes. LOOPS is a Multi-agency network to support older people with hope it will connect to Neighbourhood Partnerships. There are three strands to the NE Loops initiative:

1. Information availability - we will develop ‘Information Stations’ in the NE quadrant using available space in libraries, GP surgeries, local convenience stores etc.

2. Communication across sector services including - recruiting, training and supporting Volunteers to assist with dissemination and outreach etc.

3. Outreach to socially isolated older people in their own homes - to provide ‘in house’ person-centred support to socially isolated older people, over a time limited period(normally up to 4 - 6 weeks).

A worker has been appointed George Clark, 15 months post and starts Monday 27th April. LOOPS developing information, networking & support. Bringing services into peoples’ homes. Volunteers will spend time with person 6-8 weeks to ascertain what clients would like.

The next round of LOOPs meetings, which will be focussing on a range of issues around mapping, transportation and resilience, will be taking place as follows: South West:Wed, 20th May 2015 – 2:00 – 4:00Wester Hailes Healthy Living Centre30 Harvesters Way, EH14 3JF South East:Wed, 27th May 2015 – 2:00 – 4:00The White House Kitchen70 Niddrie Mains Road, EH16 4BG

North West:Wed, 3rd June 2015 – 2:00 – 4:00QCCCThe Haven, 25B Burgess Road, South Queensferry, EH30 9JA North East:Mon, 8th June 2015 at 2pmPortlee Resource Centre,17 Hawkhill Ave EH7 6BU

Action Points

JD to circulate PDF of booklet. AM to forward future dates to be included in minutes.

Citadel - http://www.citadelyouthcentre.org.uk/

Citadel have successfully secured funding from Paul Hamlyn Foundation (http://www.phf.org.uk/) for inter-generational schools project. A part time post covered. Early years change fund comes to an end in June. An application has been submitted to the lottery to replace. However, need to find funds to cover bridging funding for family project.

Citadel have 3 Youth Worker Apprentices (one until end of June, one until end of June, one until end of July, and one until the end of December). Working really well and their enthusiasm and dedication is shining through, job needs done, they get on with it! Cut in CEC contract, negotiated down aims of contract. Come to agreement on what contract looks like. WB advises everyone looking at cuts to discuss contract. David Hoy sending email around re consultation extended to next Friday. This is in the form of a Survey monkey. Looking at having 2 separate grant applications, one for £30,000 + and another smaller grants application for £10,000 or under. Only apply for 2 consecutive years. Can't apply for more than 50% core cuts. The feeling was that a Survey monkey was not the appropriate way to do it.

Action PointsJD To circulate link from David Hoy urgently encouraging all to respond.

INTEGRATED ADULT H & SC STRATEGIC PLANNING

Due to the very small number in attendance it was decided that Ella Simpson would just circulate the hand-outs from her presentation to give people some level of information about the topic. This document will be circulated with the minutes.

Action Point

JD to circulate the presentation slides with the minutes from this meeting.

CSMG UPDATE

1. Marilyn Keilloh ( Stepping Stones) will now represent the NW (Broughton Cluster) and report to the NW Voluntary Sector forum on CSMG North.

4

2. Jillian Hart ( CEC Parent Support) updated on PoPP and Teen Triple P ( Positive Parenting Programme) groups for parents in the North. The target of 70 applications is reached. 8 parents / carers are attending the Leith Community Centre group. A Leith Academy group will run after Easter. Groups are advertised via Join In Edinburgh which is linked to the CEC web-site.

3. Leith Youth services Forum gave feedback via Nigel Chips on the CSMG plan and suggested additions ( I can provide a link to this plan)

4. Wellington School closure and redistribution of funds. High schools have been grouped and funds shared among these groups. Current funding to be spent by March 2015 with more money available for the next financial year. Trinity Academy have contracted local voluntary organisations ( Junction, Citadel, YMCA) and are awaiting proposals. Drummond Academy are using Barnardo’s to provide group work and 1-1 support to young people. Leith Academy also went with Barnardo’s and have been happy with the service.

5. School engagement with libraries. Anna Herriman fed back on the different joint ventures between school and the library services. It was suggested that libraries could be involved in transition work with p6/7s.

6. CAPSM (Children affected by parental substance misuse) event scheduled for 25/3/15 at Fort CC.

7. Lesley Walker would like to talk to the CSMG about planning an event about teenage pregnancy. Steff Kaye to contact individuals who may be interested in an interim meeting.

Issue for Forum to discuss:1. It would be helpful to discuss how a wider range of Voluntary Organisations in Leith could be involved with high schools to develop interventions using the re-distributed Wellington School money.2. I would like to collate views from VOLT members about the issues they would like feedback to CSMG. I have asked to have a standing agenda item on VOLT members’ activities in North so that more statutory agencies have a better awareness of voluntary sector activity. Perhaps we could collect a summary of new development / key activities of the different Voluntary Organisations within VOLT that I could present to the next CSMG.

It was felt there were not enough members attending the meeting today to discuss this fully, however, we could collate some of the new activities through looking back at the Information Exchange section of past minutes.

A.O.B.

JD informed the Forum that EVOC will be holding thinkSpace events in all localities. The city’s Third Sector must prepare for this shift to localities as well as influence the shift to localities. To engage, inform, and gather views EVOC is hosting a series of thinkSpace events during April and May. We’re keen for as many Third Sector voices as possible to come together. Please follow the link below to find out more and to register to attend.
