Friends of Duxford 2017 Events

Saturday 21 January - Archive Film DayAnother opportunity to view a fascinating selection of films from the extensive IWM archive. The

theme this time will be ‘The V Force’ so look forward to watching some classic footage of the Royal Air Force during the Cold War.

Wednesday 15 February - Airspace PhotoshootThis exclusive evening event will include access to some of the aircraft in the exhibition along with

informal talks around the subject planes. The main theme for this event is Avro Aircraft.

Sunday 12 March - Duxford: Past, Present and Future A new event that will look at IWM Duxford. This will include talks from Duxford’s curatorial team on the history of the site, an update on the new membership scheme, and a presentation on Duxford’s

exciting new master planning project.

Sunday 7 May - Exclusive talk by Colonel Richard Graham on the SR71 BlackbirdJoin us as Colonel Richard Graham gives a talk on his time as a pilot of the world’s fastest aircraft.

The talk is free and only open to Friends of Duxford.

Wednesday 7 June – RAF Air Defence Radar Museum in NeatisheadThe RAF Radar Museum is opening its doors exclusively to Friends of Duxford members. With guided

tours and talks throughout the day, plus free time to visit the many exhibits they have on display, this special event will explain how the air defence system developed from World War II to the

present day. The price includes a return coach, entrance and a finger buffet lunch.

Wednesday 21 June (Evening) - Tour of the American Air MuseumLead by members of the IWM team who designed the new American Air Museum exhibition, this evening tour will give you exclusive access to the iconic building and a chance to explore further

some of the fascinating stories that make up the displays.

Saturday 22 July - The Duxford Hangar DanceSet in the prestigious Airspace hangar, this new evening event will give you the opportunity to dance

the night away to some authentic 1940’s and 50’s music, including a big band.

Date TBC- Open Turret Evening A chance to look around some of the exhibits in the Land Warfare hangar, including the opportunity

to climb inside some of the iconic tanks and vehicles in the display.

Sunday 13 August – Members DayYou are all cordially invited to attend a free event exclusively for FOD members! Something for all

the family, the day will include behind the scenes access to a variety of different areas across the site as well as the chance to take part in activities and attend talks, tours, and film viewings.

Thursday 14 to Monday 18 September – Battlefield TourPlease join us for our annual overseas Battlefield Tour. This year, we will be looking at the Battle of

Verdun and the Miracle of the Marne, staying in the historic town of Reims in France.

Wednesday 18 October – Talk on the Victor restoration project and photoshootThis evening event will give you exclusive access to the IWM’s current restoration project, the

Handley-Page Victor. Staff from Duxford’s conservation team will be on hand to update you on the progress of the project.

Date TBC – Evening visit to Churchill War RoomsEnjoy a Friends of Duxford out of hours evening visit to CWR; after an introduction to the branch by one of our CWR management team you will have the opportunity to view the branch out of hours and discover more about the history of the Cabinet War Rooms and the life and work of Winston

Churchill. Own transport. Nearest tube Westminster. Final price to be advised.

Saturday 18 November – Archive Film DayAn ever-popular event, the Friends of Duxford Archive Film Day is the members’ opportunity to view

footage from the extensive IWM film archive.
