WHY MUSIC MINISTRY?“Growing up as a child at ICC, and coming back in recent years, I marveled at how uplifting Mass is with the various individuals &

groups that sing and play instruments throughout the year. I jumped at the chance to fulfill a dream of playing in a hand bell choir; then additional participation in the Contemporary Choir and combined activities with the Parish Choir. It has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of re-involvement in the church; to meet people and learn music related to the parts of the liturgical year. It has given me a deeper understanding of my faith I wouldn’t have otherwise realized. The music ministry has given me an outlet to be able to

praise God and share that enthusiasm with the Parish and its wonderful people.” - Christine H.

From Father Jim

Fr. Anthony J. Larry, OSFS1939 - 2018

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Fr. Anthony Larry, OSFS. His failing health kept from us the opportunity to celebrate his years among us and the quality ministry he engaged in with us. Even this year the worsening of those issues kept us from sharing with him his Golden Jubilee as an Oblate Priest (October 21, 1967).

Perhaps simple tributes can be the most poignant and lasting memorials of him…like a line of penitents, quickly forming at Penance Services outside his confessional seeking to celebrate God’s Mercy in their lives; like a prayer offered recently at a Liturgy meeting recalling one of his moving homiletic insights into the working of God’s Holy Spirit among us; like preaching advice given to me as pastor as we approached Christmas Eve my first year here, “Learn from a Master”; like texting the above picture of “the Master” capturing him in one of his master moments! The caption sent under the photo above could not better sum up what we know in our hearts, “We will sorely miss him!”

We could all take a moment this weekend as we celebrate his life, ministry, and return to the arms of God to find our own memory, photo, piece of advice or inspiration, and thank God for the gift Fr. Tony Larry, Oblate of St. Francis de Sales, has been for our faith community.

LITURGYMay God be praised,Fr. Jim Yeakel, OSFS

Readings for next week:25 th Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading: Wisdom 2:12, 17-20Wicked people discuss their anger at the just one, because they do not like being reproached for their evil ways. They want to see if he is the Son of God, so they decide to torture him and see if God will come to defend him. They decide to condemn him to a shameful death and see if the claims are true that God will take care of him.Second Reading: James 3:16—4:3James discusses the importance of avoiding jealousy and strife. People should strive for peace and justice instead of concentrating on material pleasures which can tempt people to sin to obtain what they desire.Gospel: Mark 9:30-37Jesus again attempts to prepare his disciples for his death and resurrection, although they do not yet fully understand. They had been arguing over who was the most important one, but Jesus tells them whoever wants to rank first must be willing to remain a servant to all. He also tells them that anyone who welcomes a child in his name welcomes both him and God.

Are you unbaptized and have a desire to be baptized? Are you a baptized Christian interested in becoming a Catholic? Are you a baptized Catholic who never received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation? If you answered yes to any of these questions then RCIA is for you!!

A new RCIA program will be starting September 20th. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process by which baptized Christians and those who are unbaptized become members of the Catholic Church. It is also the process by which baptized Catholics who never received the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation receive those sacraments. Are you being called to have a deeper relationship with God? If so, please call the Parish Office at 410-398-1100 or email [email protected] to learn more about RCIA and to register for RCIA. The RCIA process is a wonderful way to have a greater understanding of the Catholic faith and become closer to God in the process.

Sponsors are also needed to walk with those who are learning about the Catholic faith through the

RCIA process. Do you love your faith? Do you want to share it with others? Please consider being a sponsor for RCIA. Call 410-398-1100 to sign up!

DOES YOUR CHILD NEED TO BE BAPTIZED?The next Baptism Class is tomorrow, September 17th, 7:00-8:30 pm in the Parish Center. It’s never too early to prepare for the Baptism of your child. Parents are required and Godparents are encouraged to attend. Contact the Parish Office to register at 410-398-1100.
