Pamphlet - Create a helpful pamphlet for people arriving in California. This will be their guide to the California boomtowns. Be creative, make sure to include a description of who the Forty-Niners are and what their lifestyles were like during the Gold Rush. Also include information about land rights, life and society in the boomtowns, and the economic and political progress caused by the Gold Rush.

Map and Paragraph - Draw (in ink) and illustrate ( with color) a map showing the area of the western United States and Mexico. Label the major battles in the Mexican War and include facts that show the importance of each battle. Important - Also include a paragraph explaining whether the U.S. was justified in declaring war against Mexico.

Letter Home - You have just recently immigrated to California from China. Review the experiences of the Chinese immigrants described on page 515 in your text. Use the information to write a letter home to encourage or discourage your family to take the journey to California. Your letter should be at least a page long and include information about what life is like in a mining town.
