Sermon by Rev. A.T. Vergunst. For 25th December

Notice how all things are so governed by God’s wonderful providence, bringing Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem, the city of David for Jesus to be born there.

Lord Jesus, real God and real man, only by faith can we experience the real value of this great miracle.

Mother Mary and father Joseph plain people of a low level of education, they also needed to be made righteous through Jesus merits.

The prophet Micah said Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. The Lord Jesus, King supreme, Son of the Highest, Son of God, born in

a very humble and lowing place, born to humble and low people. Shepherds, rough men; an Angel of the most High God came with this

beautiful message, “I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”

God sent His Son into the world to save sinners. God’s Word is abundantly clear, the gospel call goes out to all of us, what does Jesus birth really me to me? Has God made Him precious to me?

Angels sang, “Glory to God in the highest.” This really was something to sing about, a world that is cursed because of man’s gross sin and wickedness. God sent His Son into this cursed world.

“Fear not; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.”

What do we do with these joyful tidings today? Where are you in your relationship to God?

Pray, “enable me not only to believe that Thou are the Saviour, But help me to believe that Thou are my Saviour.”
