Unit: TransformationFocus- How do butterflies transform?Remind your little learner that we were learning about the seasons last week and that weather changes in the seasons.

As weather changes in the spring and summer some living things begin their life cycle and go through transformations called metamorphosis.

One of those living things is the butterfly.

Butterflies lay their eggs in the spring and when they hatch they are caterpillars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-NOUHqQgm4

Time to create:

Using playdough or strips of paper create caterpillars with your little learner

MATH- Review #5 this weekWatch this video to practice singing and counting to #5:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5ZCw9cUEq0&feature=youtu.be

LITERACY- Review the letter H: Watch this video with your little learner about the sounds the letter H makes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtUSMBzacQ0&t=17s

HANDWRITING/FINEMOTOR- Write the letter T for your little learner to trace 5 times.-Write your little leaner’s name in a yellow marker and work with them on practicing tracing their names. - Our shape this week is the square. Draw a square for your little learner to trace 5 times.

LIBRARY/ MEDIA- Read this book with your little learner about caterpillars

Movement – Let’s get our bodies moving with this music and movement video singing about Spring https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DobrRgD5aOU

Blocks Building/ Math: Use blocks and other building materials including things like: boxes, empty containers, egg crates, cans, plastic bottle etc. to build a tower as tall as different members of their family.

Dramatic Play: Use twisted pieces of tin foil to make caterpillars and hide them where your little learner can see them. Pretend to be scientists trying to find and collect the caterpillars.

Unit: TransformationFocus- How do Caterpillars transform?

Yesterday we introduced our caterpillars after they hatched from their eggs. Today we will be learning about what a caterpillar does. A caterpillar eats a lot of leavesThen the caterpillar hangs off the end of a branch or leaf and builds itself a chrysalis.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLUtJmIN0ww

Time to Play Pretend as a caterpillar:

Direct your little learner to ball up like an egg.

Then direct your little learner to stretch like a caterpillar and pretend to eat.

Then direct your little learner to roll up in a blanket to make their chrysalis

Help your little learner “Count to 5 to undergo metamorphosis and pop out of your chrysalis.”

Help them pop out and direct them to stretch out their new butterfly wings

MATH- Review Shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, and oval:https://www.turtlediary.com/game/color-shapes.html

LITERACY- Review the letter H: Watch this video with your little learner about the sounds the letter H makes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOTbc54ogOw

CUTTING/ FINEMOTOR-Cutting: draw straight lines on a piece. Work with your little learner to hold their scissors safely and cut on or as near to the line as they can.

LIBRARY/ MEDIA- Read/listen to this book with your little learner about finding a caterpillar https://www.getepic.com/app/read/50072

Music and Movement: Let’s get our bodies moving through the stages of the butterfly’s life cycle with this song:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EQeYA5Qbic

Kitchen/Art: Help your little learner use food to create caterpillars. Use fruits like: Apple slices, grapes cut in half, strawberries, sliced banana. Or use vegetables like cucumber, and tomato. Or use crackers and cheese or cheerios.

MATH- Review #5 this week:Practice counting to 5. Draw the number 5 for your little learner to trace. Using macaroni or beans to glue on

Music and Movement Activity: Let’s get our bodies moving and stretching like butterflies with this yoga movement video.

Yesterday we learned about the caterpillar stage of a butterfly and that the caterpillar spins himself a chrysalis. Today we are learning that inside the chrysalis the caterpillar goes through metamorphosis that changes its bod into a butterfly.

learner create a butterfly.

Trace their hands and help them cut it out then let them decorate it.

Use paint and their hands to create a butterfly

Using paper or paper plates help your little learner cut out the wings of a butterfly. Then have them decorate the materials and attach the wings to their decorated toilet paper roll.

or use a marker to make dots and practice counting to 5.

LITERACY- Review the letter U: Watch this video with your little learner about the sounds the letter U makes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPJRhEV-kF8

HANDWRITING/FINEMOTOR- Write the letter U for your little learner to trace 5 times.

-Write your little leaner’s name in a yellow marker and work with them on practicing tracing their names. - Our shape this week is the square. Draw a square for your little learner to trace 5 times.

LIBRARY/ MEDIA- Read this book with your little learner about butterflies https://www.getepic.com/app/read/48629

Unit: TransformationFocus- Frogs also transform in the Spring through the process of Metamorphosis.

Like butterflies frogs start as eggs then they hatch.

When frogs hatch they are tad poles and have tails.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGIc7KitJCA

Time to be scientists:

Using chia seeds is the best but cooked rice or dried beans could work as stand in for this pretend activity.

Have the chia seeds/rice/beans in a container of water. Tell your little learner they are frog eggs. Have them use a spoon to collect as many frog eggs as they can and put them in a different container to take back to their lab so that they can watch them go through their metamorphosis.

MATH- Review Colors: red, yellow, blue, green, orange, purple.Using paint, food coloring, or even markers to review identifying colors review how we can mix the following colors to transform them into new colors:Yellow + Blue = GreenYellow + Red = OrangeBlue + Red = Purple

LITERACY- Review the letter U: Watch this video with your little learner about the sounds the letter U makes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmWTMNhtY9Q

CUTTING/ FINEMOTOR-Cutting: draw a square on a piece. Work with your little learner to hold their scissors safely and cut on or as near to the line as they can to cut out the square.

Music and Movement: Let’s get our bodies moving and practice following directions with this movement song video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUXk8Nc5qQ8

Blocks Building:Use blocks and other building materials including things like: boxes, empty containers, egg crates, cans, plastic bottle etc. to build a frog pond.

Help your little learner color a piece of paper blue for the water then use plastic recycling bottles for trees and logs. Cut apart and empty egg create for your little learn to pretend they are frogs.

Kitchen/Art: Help your little learner use food to create frogs. Use fruits like: Apple slices, grapes cut in half, strawberries, sliced banana. Or use

vegetables like cucumber, and tomato. Or use crackers and cheese or cheerios or half a sandwich

FridayDate: 6/12/2020

Unit: TransformationFocus- What are the final stages of a frog’s metamorphosis?

Yesterday we talked about the beginning of a frog’s life and you got to collect your sample of frog eggs.Over time once the tadpoles hatch and they grow they will go through

Time to create:Help your little learner create an adult frog using paint or crayons/markers.

MATH- Review #5 this week:Practice counting objects with your little leaner using this fun activity page: summertime-FrqFGXP5aGstbMnFq
